Great atmosphere and great setup. Unfortunately this is one of several visits where we have ordered a well done steak and got less than well done. They have always served the stakes undercooked. I believe a steakhouse should cook the steak right the first time. They will not do it. Please beware.

Overall, a solid place for dinner, but could’ve been better. It was a pricey meal and I’ve had better steak for a lower price at other places. Nothing too special about this place that would make me want to pick them over other spots when making dinner plans again.

I had a pretty interesting experience here tonight. First off this was my first time here and I had it bookmarked for quite some time. Upon entering the host staff was rude. The lady was training someone and instead of explaining to us why we were just standing there staring at them she just continued to go over whatever she was teaching the other girl. I finally stated that we had a reservation for 8pm and so it began. We were seated and our server was Malachi. He was amazing super nice and attentive. I ordered the Seafood La Louisianne and my husband had the steak and fries. His steak and fries was super good. I noticed my pasta was super«soupy» and I couldn’t even eat it with the fork so I had it sent back. The manager came out to inform me that they would be making a new one so I had to wait. The next one was delicious and perfectly made. I couldn’t even finish it all. I will give them another shot based on the service I received!

Best mac and cheese EVER!!! Enough said. So, treat yourself to it. I haven’t been served anything I didn’t like here. Their steaks and prime ribs are all cooked to perfection. My bf also really enjoys their ahi tuna salad. And, their warm chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream is da bomb! The service here is good– just be sure to specify how many oz of prime rib you want if you order it, or you may just end up the largest one.

Very disappointed. The food was average and we were celebrating my sons birthday and I literally told 5 people and they still didn’t but a candle in his birthday cake. The manager said she’d comp it but we were charged anyway. No one even apologized for the mess up. You only have one shot at a birthday dinner. They blew it!

J Alexander’s was definitely yummy! I was initially disappointed due to the item I’d read raving reviews about on Unilocal was not featured last night. My waiter said it just been the feature the night before, needless to say my heart broke. The spinach con queso quickly warmed my heart back up, it was so good and the chips were so fresh. I ordered the steak and fries and my guy had prime rib with the NYO Mac and cheese. They were both quite delicious, I had grilled mushrooms on the side and that was a perfect addition. I will call before coming next time to make sure my meal is featured!

So I wanted my fix of prime rib. going to my baseline quick pic good old John Alexander’s to get my addiction quenched. Sat night and no one else wanted the carnivorous endeavor so I am on my own. think TAKEOUT… simple right? Ok so now they are no longer offering take out ordering over the phone… why u ask? WHY? Well you have to come to the restaurant and order at the bar. again…ummmm…Why not just over the phone or pre-order on an app or something else that doesn’t waste my… the paying customer’s time? Well it’s because we here at J. Alexanders don’t really care about you… the customer. We want to make sure that no one orders their food and then doesn’t pick it up… or some other beyond lame excuse. This is such a shame as I am an agoiraphobic and hence they are not respecting my handicap. Wait… I should bring this to the Supreme court! Ok to all that read this critique of J Alexander now aptly renamed as badlands… the food is always consistently good. Service is fair if not good. As for the stupidity of their policy of no longer offering the ability to preorder my vittels… I can say nothing. If corporate reads this they should wake up and realize they are making unhappy customers.

J’s always produces a solid meal, I’ve been going there for years and have never been disappointed in quality, selection, service, or presentation. J’s is a lovely choice for a mildly upscale yet unassuming ambiance. The booths are perfect for a nearly private dinner with your party. I recently ate the most incredible french dip there with shoestring fries. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten something so delicious in what may be a record amount of time. Highly recommend.

I enjoyed everything about this restaurant. The food was amazing! The servers were great so very helpful. The drinks menu wasn’t extremely vast but neither is their menu. Look let’s face it if all dishes at this price are 5 star meals then I don’t mind a 1 page menu. Every one in my party of 10 loved their dinner. We tried just about everything calamari, deviled eggs(did have a couple of shells but not a deal breaker), steak, ceaser salad, burger, pasta, and chicken tenders. The side to trump all sides MACANDCHEESE! This Mac and cheese brought tears to my eyes it was so good. I highly recommend it over potatoes.

I was very excited to celebrate my birthday here ! Heard about the food which was delicious, I had a steak burger and my son had the prime rib. The food was great but nothing different or spectacular. The mojito was pure water and bland, disappointed. The service was wonderful and did a great job Serving and being patient with my large crowd. What I found thoroughly disappointing was the fact they did not have the wine we wanted in stock. They ran out of tuna which 5 people in my party wanted ! And they refused to put tables together so that I could talk and mingle with my guests. We were placed in 3 different places which made it impossible to talk to everyone inevitably leaving guests sitting with strangers. We had reservations and accommodations should have been made so tables could be placed together

I have been to J. Alexander’s(now known as Redlands Grill, apparently) on a few different occasions for lunches and dinners. The food and service has been consistent. Redlands Grill has a diverse menu featuring salads, steaks, burgers, pasta dishes, and more. There is a full bar and the atmosphere is nice for a date night or an evening out with friends. The servers are well trained and I have always had prompt service at this location. Their salads are very fresh and the burgers are quite juicy. I really have no complaints about this restaurant and plan to visit again in the future!

This has got to be one of the best restaurants in Tampa! I stopped in with a friend to grab lunch a few weeks ago. It was his first time. Of course, as always, the service was extraordinary. The food, even better. The prime rib in indescribably amazing. It’s always cooked to perfection. I will continue to recommend this place to everyone I know.

Fantastic food and wine here. Our waitress was tops. But the evening was soured by what I’d imagine is the manager of the bar area. We had finished eating but we hadn’t yet decided if we were staying. The older gentleman who presented us with our bill helped us decide to leave. If you have great food and servers, how can you not have success? Ask the management.

DH and I came here to celebrate my getting a job in FL. First off, don’t ask what the house red is, our waitresses response was«red wine» lol. Four stars is for the food, there is something to be desired however from waitstaff. Although attentive, she was not knowledgeable on the menu or the wine/alcohol pairings. DH and I both had a steak and they were cooked as they should be, rare was rare and medium rare was medium rare — You would think this goes without saying, but sadly it doesn’t, so I give bonus points for knowing how to cook a piece of meat correctly. I felt like it was overpriced for what we got, but not too bad. We probably won’t be back, but that’s mainly because there are a lot of other restaurants to try in the area that service more than«red wine’.

The best ahi tuna I ever experienced! It melted in you mouth, pared with a fine chopped salad medley. The half off bottles of wine came in handy. Grilled artichoke was a treat we enjoyed. Spouse enjoyed the grouper and the Caesar salad was top rated. Daughters enjoyed the steaks. Staff was knowledgeable and attentive and enjoyable to discuss the menu options. Atmosphere is classic but a bit noisy. Great place for a special meal.

Sat at the bar with the other business travelers staring at their phones and eating alone. The lighting was dark but there was spot lighting over the bar which was way too bright. The service was great and I was handled but 3 different people. I had the prime rib and mashed potatoes. It was prepared perfectly with ah jus and horse radish sauce. It was a huge cut of steak and very filling. I could have done with less potato and a veggie side but all in all it was a good experience.

I’d give this place 5 stars if it wasn’t for the service. The restaurant gets crowded(especially lunch rush hour) so I understand how service can get a bit slow, however the past couple of times I’ve gone, the server didn’t visit our table for over 20 minutes. As for the food, the best Ahi Tuna Salad in Tampa. The tuna is always fresh and the salad is a perfect blend & amazing dressing to top it off. Just because the service isn’t the best, I won’t ever stop going to J Alexander’s. A favorite lunch spot & especially nice for client lunches.

Thai Salad is AMAZING! Best salad I’ve had! Carrot cake is second to none! This restaurant is a 20 minute drive and is totally worth it! The first time we cane was Sunday about 1pm and it was not slammed, we sat outside they have a good patio area(not pet friendly) the Thai peanut salad is by far the best salad I’ve ever had! I’m addicted. If you like thai summer/veggie rolls with peanut sauce at other restaurants then this salad is absolutely for you! They toss their salad so it’s covered in yumminess! The second time we came at 12:00 noon on a Wednesday and it was slammed! 25 minute wait. Didn’t get to sit outside. Service and food quality was same as before which was excellent. The waiter recommended prime rib for next time. Bf had steak tacos 2nd time which he wasn’t impressed by, little meat, a lot of lettuce, our waiter recommended over the burger. Next time bf is trying the burger. Food quality-10 Service-10 Cleanliness –10 Presentation of food-9 Speed of delivery-10 Atmosphere –10

Let me just say the grilled artichokes are a meal unto themselves, unless you share. My mouth is watering just thinking about them. Divine, divine, divine. Just that good. The mac n cheese is definitely elevated in flavour– yummy on the wow plane. The service spot on– we enjoyed the atmosphere so much, we had an extended lunch. This was my 1st experience here and I highly recommend when looking for a higher end experience. The only drawback is the tight fit into bathroom stall, have to squeeze b past toilet to shut door– if they opened out a perfect bathroom

This is where my family and I go when we want something fairly nice, but still easy. The food has yet to disappoint and is always bountiful, the drinks are good, and you can almost always get a table without any wait. It’s not really special, but it’s always very good. J Alexanders is a steakhouse that doesn’t care about the pomp and circumstances of being a steakhouse(maybe because it’s more an American classics restaurant than a steakhouse(though their steaks are pretty good)). The restaurant is fairly dark, so if you have bad eyes you should make sure you have a source of light with you to read the menu. The décor is simple, with a wide open dining room and modern pieces of art along the walls. At first it might seem a little pricey, but know that everything they serve comes on a plate twice as big as most restaurants in the area. You’ll definitely get enough food, and then some. The grilled artichokes are a great appetizer to share with the table, and I’ve yet to have an entrée that I was unhappy with. And if you can, you really should save room because the desserts are all to die for. The carrot cake is their specialty, but their chocolate cake is pretty amazing too. The service is almost always top-notch. The few times we’ve had bad service, the managers always made it up to us in one way or another. There’s really nothing to complain about here. If you’ve got the time and an empty stomach, definitely make your way here for a special weeknight meal. You won’t regret it.

This place is solid with food, drinks, service and central location in Tampa. Sometimes I forget about it because it is tucked away off of Dale Mabry by the Ortho office, but when I remember I am always excited to go. Everything on the menu is great and let me say, everything! Shocking that a restaurant can make excellent appetizers, entrees, desserts and drinks. We have never been disappointed. Our favorites: Drinks Martinis — love they serve with side car of extra. Good wine selection and my husband likes the seasonal beers on tap. They are served a little colder than most places. Apps Deviled eggs, so good! Spinach cheese dip with chips. These chips are better than most Mexican Restaurants. Very consistent light yet perfect crunch. Other picks: All burgers, black bean burger, fish sandwich and believe it or not the Club Sandwich is one of the best in Tampa outside Wright’s. For entrees any fish you can’t go wrong. Love the salmon or even the chicken. When watching carbs I enjoy beefsteak tomatoes, grilled artichokes and spaghetti squash as sides or appetizer. Then we tried the dessert for the first time. We were egged on by a patron next to us at the bar. Wow! Carrot cake was so fresh and tasty. Tasted light and with large strands of real carrot inside. Wow! Get this! Oh yeah, cream cheese frosting, need we say more? Service is good. Not 5 stars but pretty darn close. Very consistent with good food and drinks, keeps me coming back time and time again.

They’ve changed their name to Redland’s Grill, still owned by same company. Menu changed a little and prices went up. Food was good but not worth the price. New menu item was jumbo fried shrimp, 6 shrimp and 2 sides for 25 dollars. They were good but as my son said. Not 25 dollar good. I had the Southern salad. It used to have a different name. There was 1 chicken tender cut up in the salad and it was 16 dollars. Again, a bit steep. We dine out often and I certainly don’t mind paying for a meal worth the price. Not sure we would go back.

We were a party of 5 that dined for lunch this past weekend. Our service was fantastic, friendly, helpful and attentive. We had a few of the rotisserie chicken lunches and everyone was happy with that. Someone had a large salad with fried chicken and just thought it was ok. Child had a baked potato soup with grilled chicken kids meal, loving the soup, but not liking the chicken. All in all, I feel this restaurant consistently puts out a great meal. Although I didn’t have it this time, my favorite meal here may be the burger. YUM!

I loved the Steak Burger with house ground meats of NY Strip, Ribyeye and Fillet. Ordered medium and it came out medium /medium rare but it tasted really good. They could give me cole slaw instead of fries and I thought that’s cool.

This is a solid steakhouse. It’s quite a large restaurant with a decent parking lot in front. When we entered, they knew we had a reservation and led us immediately to our booth. There are a lot of booths here, which is nice. If your vision is bad, bring your glasses because this restaurant is DARK. I guess with all the shades down, it gives you an old steakhouse vibe, which isn’t bad. Service was great. They refilled our waters on a regular basis and made recommendations on the sides that we could substitute with. I came with two other people, and we all decided to split the following items: 1. Artichoke: Buttered up and hot! I usually don’t like artichoke because it’s such a pain to eat. You get rewarded at the very end with the small artichoke heart. The order came with two artichokes, each sliced in half. Loved it. 2. Calamari: Not the best calarmari I’ve had, but it was decent. I would have liked it fried slightly more. Even though it comes with marinara sauce, I actually like my calamari with cocktail sauce, which they can provide if you ask. 3. Prime rib: Even the 12 ounce was huge. Soft, tender, juicy. I loved it! Comes au jus. I substituted the mashed potatoes with grilled zucchini(highly recommend this) because someone else got the smashed potatoes. My favorite of the night. 4. New York strip with Mac and cheese: This was done very well. I liked the lighter flavor of this steak compared to the prim rib, and it was still a decent size. The mac and cheese was not good though. Gooey runnier cheese. Blah. 5. Brazzo steak: Comes in smaller medallions and smashed potatoes. This was good, but portions are a bit smaller than the others. Well-flavored to salty. Smashed potatoes were awesome. Would be perfect with a little gravy, but you can taste the real potato chunks in there. 6. Carrot cake: Holy Jesus this was sweet. This was the butteriest, sweetest thing I’ve had in a while, but highly addictive. Get this to share. Great meal. It came out to about $ 50 a person.

After visiting with my future mother in law, we realized it was a bit early to go back to the hotel, so Unilocal came to the rescue, we were looking to have a night cap, we found a couple of bars but we opted for J Alexander’s because we noticed since the local hockey team was playing(the Lighting Bolts) all the bars in the area were so crowded, but this steakhouse was just crowded enough. We decided to stay at the bar because we were just looking to have a drink. The service was just perfect, the bartender knew exactly what she was doing, our drinks were amazing. We had a Kamikaze and a dirty martini. Before we went back to the hotel we decided to try their food, so we shared a plate, Steak Medallions with mushrooms and a wine sauce reduction with mashed potatoes, I’m glad we decided to share, it was more than enough for the both of us. Next time we are in Tampa we will definitely be back. This place left a good taste in our mouths ;) And the service was superb!

Spinach con queso dip with Chips! After sitting down, ordering drinks and we got this appetizer to start, I turned to the waiter and said, «this is pretty darn good». The restaurant is one of those old time steakhouses. Plenty of wood moulding and surroundings. Dress is now casual but i“m sure at one time, it was coat and tie. I kind of like the old style steakhouses better than the Western Theme or Sports Bar ones of today. J Alexander’s is in the $$$ price range per person. That said, the appetizer adds to that but shared between 3 people, maybe maybe four, is worth the price. I had the 16 oz prime rib with grilled zucchini as as entrée. My wife had the chicken salad platter with a breaded chicken breast atop a large salad. It was definitely a «take some home» for her. The prime rib was cooked exactly to my request, medium and tasted perfectly with the side cup of au jus and a side cup of a horseradish sauce to dip into. The zucchini were sliced lengthwise and grilled with a little oil drizzled over them. No dessert but a cup a coffee afterwards and we walked out smiling. We went just after 1:00 pm on a Sunday afternoon so the crowd rush was pretty much over. The staff was attentive, easy to talk to and, if enticed, carried on a conversation with you. If not, they were attentive but quiet. All in all, a very good experience. Go back? Yupp. Maybe a month from now.
