Thanks to Unilocaler, Jaimie T’s Review of the Day, I learned about a great little ice cream shop located near the intersection of Armenia Avenue and Waters. Ely’s Homemade & Natural Ice Cream can be found in a small strip plaza along Waters, just to the east of the traffic light at Armenia. The shop is run by a very sweet lady named Edelys(or Ely for short), and we had the chance to sit and visit since it was a quiet afternoon in the store. Ely immigrated to the US from Cuba, where she ran a very successful ice cream store in Havana for a number of years. She first opened an ice cream store in Clearwater, but then shifted her focus to this new store on Waters, which opened about 6 months ago. I was busy munching on a cup of peach ice cream during this whole discussion. The ice cream was very rich and creamy, mixed with bits of diced peaches. It wasn’t too sweet, and so it was light and refreshing. Really outstanding! All of her ice cream is made by hand, in small batches, and it’s very fresh. I counted about 20 different flavors sitting in these 1 and a half gallon serving containers in her frozen ice cream case. There were the traditional chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, but also a lot of delicious fruit flavors, and popular Latin favorites like mango, coconut, and guava. She’s also got some crazy flavor profiles that are popular with the little kids. Add to that all kinds of syrups and toppings so that you can customize the desserts to your liking. Ely says that she changes out the flavors on a regular basis, so you never know what you’ll see sitting in her freezer case. At right angles to all of the ice cream is her display case of pastries, and you’ll find éclairs, flan, cupcakes, powdered-sugar«horns», and lot of very delicious sweet treats. Ely can make ice cream floats, milkshakes, coffee, espresso, hot cocoa, and specialty coffee drinks to keep everyone happy. Sodas and water are found in a refrigerated case near the register. This is a very fun little ice cream shop, and I highly encourage you to stop in and support her terrific local business.

Great location and owner, Edelys(Ely), are sure to delight any Tampa Bay area sweet fiend. Ely’s Homemade ice cream is something to behold. Many flavors, configurations and creations are available at this shop. Upon speaking to Ely, I learned she has been making ice cream for many years, most recently operating an ice cream shop in Clearwater prior to this location opening. The store is clean, and brightly decorated. I think that it’s a cute setting for an ice cream shop and it feels comfortable, not an unwelcoming environment. As it is nestled in a strip of stores, there is parking adjacent to the shop and plenty of spaces at any given time. This ice cream is creamy and flavorful and there isn’t a lack of variety. Flavors vary daily so it’s interesting to see what she will have in store. She also makes ice cream specialty desserts so be sure to check those out. The pastry case is loaded with a range of pastries. The shop offers coffee, espresso, specialty coffees, and hot chocolate. There is something to please everyone here. Definitely check this place out if you’re in the area and/or are looking for a great place to satisfy a sweet craving. I love that this independently-owned business aims to cater to and please all!

You home made? You want ice cream? You desserts? You want Cuban pastry? You want chocolate fountain? You to see Ely? Just come to visit. Let’s home made ice cream is new business near Armenia. Ely is very friendly. The first dollar was given by one of our Unilocal friend. The have the Cuban pastelitos with meat, guava, cheese and my favorite– the coconut. This Cuban pastry is crispy on the outside skin. They also has chocolate fountain for dipping. The most important product is the ice cream. The home made ice cream is rich in milk. The flavor change every time. However, you will taste somethings that you have never tasted before. They also have coffee, Cuban dessert like flan, señorita. Try some banana split or cake with ice cream. They are all good.

Stopped by in the early afternoon for some ice cream since I found this shop on Unilocal recently. Got a scoop of lemon and a scoop of moosetracks, with a swirl of carmel sauce. The serving size generous and the ice cream divine. So creamy and flavorful. We also got a few guava pastries. The dough was flaky and good, but a lack of filling was noticed. we will be back to try more flavors.

I stopped in to have some ice cream before dinner the other night because I’m a rebel like that. Tried a couple samples of mamey, mango and another. The fruit flavors didn’t quite burst with flavor as I was expecting so instead I got a cup of pistachio and moose tracks. It’s cash only under $ 5 so to get it over $ 5 I paid for the next customer’s ice cream too since she had also intended to use her card. #payitforward The ice cream was well-made — the consistency was right on. Can’t quite say the pistachio was all natural though given the green color. But all in all, it was good stuff. Service friendly, the restaurant was clean. Nice variety of flavors!

Ely’s Ice Cream is a cute little dessert shop located on W Waters Ave. It’s not officially open yet, but should be within the next couple weeks. The interior is very welcoming; the walls are painted bright blue and bubblegum pink! It would be easy to drive right past the plaza, so look out for the large shop sign right before Armenia Ave. We were given a taste of two scoops, chocolate and strawberry, and both were great. I preferred the chocolate, of course. Both ice creams had large chocolate chips that melted in your mouth with each bite. I’m looking forward to trying the fruit flavors, most notably mango, once they’re implemented. Ely’s will also be serving other desserts, like flan and pastries. The owner, Edelys, also told us that they will have a specialty coffee maker that will brew espresso, cappuccino, café con leche, and hot chocolate. Cuban sandwiches will also be on the menu. We were able to chat with Ely for awhile and she is so sweet! She told us that they have sold ice cream in Cuba for nine years and they also previously had a shop in Clearwater. Ely’s new location is dangerously close to my house, so I’m sure I’ll be back often once it’s open!
