Been here my last time, after probably 20+ visits in the last 12 months. They often make good coffee, but 1. they don’t know the difference between a latte and cappuccino, 2. they argue about it every time I order a cappuccino. Normally, they do a pretty good 8oz cappuccino. However, they refuse to make a 4 shot cappuccino in a 16oz cup because they say that it’s a latte. So, today, they corrected me(again) in front of other customers to tell me that«actually, since you want 28oz cappuccinos [to keep the proportions correct because they won’t make a 16oz cappuccino] what you actually want is a 16oz latte.» Sorry, ladies, a cappuccino has double the foam, ergo half the milk, as a latte. The cappuccino, because it has half the milk, allows the flavor of the coffee to come through. The larger size is because I want more of it, with all the milk it tastes like warm sour milk, as the drink I just bought from you and threw away. Some people like 16oz lattes with 4 shots, I however don’t, and that’s why I didn’t order it that way. But hey, it’s your show. If you go here, just have them make you something and pay for it after you get it, if you end up liking it.

This place is dope and I will be back again many many times. When I was in college I use to go to coffee shops often and now when I plan on hitting this place when I want to hang without alcohol. I had a drip coffee and my wife had a soy latte. I will say the soy latte was one of the best I have ever had. I dont usually take anything in my coffee, but I would definitely grab a latte from this place. The drip was an amazing cup of coffee. I plan on grabbing a bag of beans after we finish up our black raven coffee.

Awesome coffee. Ordered latte and it is one of the best I have ever had. Ambience is very nice too.

Our staff is very picky about the quality of the coffee served. After taste testing we settled on Valhalla’s Ethiopian Harrar and Viking Blend. Top notch people at Valhalla, too.

good coffee, however certain coffee is better down the road. However coffee shops aren’t just about coffee while that is important for sure atmosphere is a huge factor here, this place has horrible seating rude staff and a whole vibe of we are better than you. I guess you could say their mean hipster instead of friendly hipster. On a whole coffee is really good, but the vibe isn’t take your coffee to go.

This is my favorite coffe shop, blue beards had my favor for awhile but now we always stop here on the weekends for coffee exclusively. Besides their coffee tasting fantastic, they now make deserts on the side! We are a fan of their brownies :). They also sell their coffee and deserts at Metropolitain Market and Cornina’s Bakery. They make their own coffee there and the quality is in the taste. Their hot chocolate alone has such a delicious unique taste that I haven’t seen anywhere else yet. It’s more like drinking a hot fudge sunday but it’s not overly sweet by any means. Try this place you won’t be disappointed.

Been there twice. So far everyone is super friendly and willing to chat. By the second trip there they already knew who I was and a couple of days had passed between trips. I can’t speak for anything but my drink of choice, a latte, but it was great both times. Highly recommend anyone looking for a solid coffee, head on in. Also the drip coffee is pour over, enjoy.

When I first started coming here I wasn’t sure about the coffee. It was good mind you. It was just a bit different than other roasters and vastly different than that chain based in Seattle. I find myself craving that difference and missing it when I’m forced elsewhere. I come nearly every day now. I’m hooked, almost addicted actually. They roast their own coffee and when they’re roasting stopping by is a must. The smell is incredible. Admittedly I’m a bit of a coffee snob now because I’ve been spoiled here so. But the smell is pretty cool. The service is done well. The staff is friendly, efficient, and they know their customers. They are half the reason their very loyal customers keep coming. There is no drive through and you can’t get breakfast or anything to eat for that matter. At times the line can be a bit long. But they’re long for a reason folks. It’s very good. I like my simple drip coffee here and I get my beans by the half pound. Good stuff! Definitely give this place a try.

Never been here before. I was ignored when I walked in. After a few minutes I was asked for my order. No ‘hi’ or ‘sorry about the wait.’ After standing there holding my money and waiting to pay, some regulars came in after me and the barista started chatting with them, continuing to ignore me. Yeah… This isn’t how you get me to hand money over for your product. Never going back.

I just moved to Tacoma from Las Vegas, where its all about the Starbucks. That being said, I am an avid Starbucks drinker and have not really ventured out any further than that. Since moving to Washington, I’ve wanted to expand my tastes a little bit, but walking into smaller coffee shops and looking at their menus honestly confused me a little bit. I’ve tried several in this area(Metronome, Cutter’s Point) and the baristas have sort of just left me to fend for myself as far as understanding the menu and ordering. I walked into Valhalla and was immediately greeted by two friendly baristas(they probably knew I was new — they greeted almost every customer by name the entire time I was in). The one barista asked me what I wanted, and when I mentioned it was my first time in and I wasn’t sure where to start, she immediately asked me what my usual Starbucks order was. Yes! This is definitely something I can work with. She whipped up a hot, delicious coffee for me that was even better than my usual Starbucks drink. They are certainly«no frills» here, but if that’s what you’re used to, they won’t let you down!

Best coffee I have had in a shop — at home I roast my own which is the only I have had that is better. Fun, hip and, yes, in Starbucks back yard, not even close, sorry Starbucks!

I’m not gonna make some overdone allusion to the Valhalla of myth. There isn’t a need. I’m sure 100 people before me already did that. So instead I will just say that this place has got it going on, with a few things that just don’t work for me. I will say I loved walking in and seeing the roaster right there. The service was just awesome and you could tell that this business cared about not only their«craft» but also about the customers that they welcomed by name as they came through the door. This reminded me of my favorite place in Reno. The cappuccino didn’t speak to me as much as I would have liked. The milk was a bit too hot for my tastes. I did love that I could actually taste the coffee though it was robust and filled my palate. I was half tempted to order another and request a cooler temp… but I had another coffee place to try out. I can do 4 shots… but I cant do 6! The seating is built into the floor, so you can’t easily cram extra people around a table, so if you go, don’t go with more than one other friend. You wont be able to all sit together easily. Parking this weekday was easy and close and the line wasn’t too bad. Not sure how it will be on the weekends. I

Really cute place! Coffee is good quality and the workers are rad! It’s also in a nice place downtown and has plenty of room if you’re planning to just sip and stay for a while! Definitely recommend! They also have crayons to color with!!!

One of my top 10 favorite spots… really! I have literally had dreams about the perfect cappuccinos. The aroma of the freshly roasted coffee is amazing. The art of perfecting your craft is true exemplified right here on 6th in Tacoma. The staff is so real, talented & totally cool! I absolutely adore Valhalla. See you soon. This is not a good place to go to work or meet a friend for coffee. The space is cramped and not really a place where you can lounge. That said, Valhalla easily has the best beans in town. Hands down. A coffee paradise.

Coffee is very good, but the staff was very cold and rude. Tried a couple more times and it was the same. Also dont have a lot of options. I love third wave coffee, but seriously? You dont know what a viennese is? And youll scoff when i ask for it? Better off at bluebeard down the road.

Killer coffee, nothing more. Friendly and cute baristas roast and prepare delicious coffee for a great price. They even prepare French Press and drip coffee with your choice of beans. Support your local coffee shop!!! Better prices, better product, local jobs.

Excellent roasters. I’m newer to Tacoma and am happy to have quickly found a roaster that does a delightful job. I enjoy the full bodied flavor and the mouthfeel of the Valkyrie blend. Even their drip is so good that you don’t need to add cream & sugar! Their master roaster is a very passionate professional, and has been perfecting his craft for over 20 years.
