What a great first experience! My husband and I shared the braised elk starter. It was very delicious with a little bit of unexpected heat that really added to the dish. For our entrees we shared the hanger steak(mr) and the dork burger. The steak was grilled to perfection, and I don’t think I ever want to eat another burger agin unless it is duck and pork. SOGOOD. We also shard a side of the pea risotto(SUPERB!) and the corn slaw(also SUPERB). The portions were great for the price and there was even enough for left overs. For dessert we shared the affogato with their homemade ice cream and it was one of the best I’ve had! My husband and I spend a lot of time trying new restaurants and this one was definitely 5 stars. The food was great, the wine was great(thank you for having French wine!), and most of all the service was great. Our server was Zach, and even though they weren’t very busy at the time he was never overbearing and was there when needed. We appreciate your service and your care in the food you are serving. Thank you! We’ll be back again for sure!

We came to The Table for brunch and were not disappointed. This place is a must try! I called after not being able to book on Open Table and was accommodated for a table for four within a half hour. We were seated right away and I have to say that things just got better from there. They offer a small but thoughtful menu. The quality and flavor in the dishes speak for themselves. The grits with pork belly are outstanding on the starter menu but make an excellent breakfast with the addition of a few eggs and toast.

Favorite restaurant in Tacoma, hands down. It’s a bummer they don’t have cocktails, but the ambiance and food is always on point. Every time I’ve been the chef stops by our table and asks how everything tastes. Service is phenomenal. Give it a try!

The food, the experience, top notch people working behind the bar and in the kitchen. Went in early at 4pm for opening, more than accommodating and eager to chat.

Such an amazing evening out with friends. The ambiance is perfect, and the wait staff are so personable and courteous. I’ve not enjoyed a culinary experience as much in a long time. The food was presented beautifully, and the tastes were on point. Not to mention, the wine selection perfectly compliments the food. I would definitely return!

I’m torn between two and three stars. I was with a large party, and the service was prompt. There were some issues — food came out at a strange pace, with some meals lagging. They were also out of quite a few things, not reflected on the menu. The chicken was really bland and flavorless. This wasn’t isolated, as more than one person in my party noted that it was crazy to pay $ 24 for a dry chicken breast and wing. Roasted veggies were good. The risotto was good. Not a huge portion, and again, $ 24 for a smallish serving of risotto and veggies — silly. The beer selection needs work. Mostly IPA’s or beer that is really an IPA but isn’t named an IPA. The space is fun to look at, with the Edison bulbs, but it is SOLOUD. Even just a handful of people make so much noise in that space, and it was ridiculously warm. To recap — chicken sucked, prices high, loud, warm. It wasn’t my favorite, and maybe we caught them on an off night, but I’m not sure it’s worth another shot.

The best restaurant on 6th Ave by a long shot. The restaurant is very simple but contemporary with a working kitchen that take most of the back wall up, I loved the Edison lighting inside. The menu had a wide variety of things on it which all sounded fantastic. We ended up getting the duck, steak, with 6 raw oysters on the half shell and a side of the gnocchi mac and cheese. The duck was fantastic, medium rare with an orange sauce with mustard seeds, it absolutely blew me away. The steak was perfectly cooked to medium rare again and the seasoning was spot on. You really have to try to screw up raw oysters, but their presentation was very creative and tasty. Lastly the gnocchi mac and cheese; I would come in here just for that, the gnocchi maybe a bit soft but the flavor was second to none. Service was prompt, polite and very efficient, ok this was a Monday night and there were only 10 – 12 other people but everything ran very well and we did not have to pour our own wine, our server stopped by a few times. I thought the price was on point for a restaurant of this caliber; ok maybe on the high end for Tacoma, but I am willing to pay the price if this is what I get when I come in here. We had two sides including the oysters, the duck, steak and gnocchi and the bill was $ 90; we ended up taking food home. They offer no mixed drinks, this is a beer and wine place only, but they have a nice selection of Belgium beers(surprisingly) and a great selection of wine and well-priced. Overall this place rocked. I cannot see why they have anything else than 4 and 5 star reviews, maybe an off night for them. For me, this place is definitely tied for NUMBER1 in Tacoma with Over the Moon. Oh yes and they started brunch on the weekends too! The menu for that looked amazing!

Almost passed by this place, but thank goodness one of the servers stepped outside and urged us to try their brunch. OMG! we loved the savory flavors, fresh herbs(grown in a window box in front of the restaurant), and creative pairings. This will be one of our go-to places for brunch.

Very loud acoustics. I wish these new concept restaurants would realize that when they put in ALL hard services, floors, tables, chairs, walls, ceilings, it makes it impossible to talk to your date. Luckily, we were able to move to a quieter location so that the four of us could hear each other. The first and second bottle of wine we ordered were both out of stock; unprofessional. The one server in the entire room seemed harried and didn’t seem very knowledgable about the food or wine pairings. In spite of the other problems, the food was actually quite good. Flavorful, original, and good portions. However, when I go out to an expensive restaurant, I want the whole package. A comfortable atmosphere where I can converse, a knowledgeable and professional wait staff, and excellent food. The table hits the mark in the food area but not the others.

Took my son here for Sunday brunch. The restaurant had an open feel to it and wasn’t crowded for a Sunday at noon. The food was good. I ordered the cheddar grits and ham. They weren’t overcooked and the ham was tender. I absolutely loved the peach Chardonnay mimosa. I’ll definitely be back for another Sunday brunch. The only reason I did not rate the restaurant and experience«5 stars» was because I asked for no jalapeño on my cheddar grits and ham and the waitress forgot. I ended up picking them off, which took from the experience.

The Table is a very nice, upper crust place off of 6th Avenue in Tacoma that I really enjoyed! They have a wide variety of plate sizes from shareable dishes, sides, tapas and larger meals. The best thing I like about that is that they are categorized in this way and no surprises come along as to how big or small your meal will be. I wasn’t terribly hungry for just one thing so I got something off of the small plate menu and two sides. For my small plate item I ordered the Ricotta Mushroom Crostini which had fresh mushroom s and herbs all on grilled bread. It was delicious! For my sides I got the Aged Cheddar Corn Grits which were fantastic and the Roasted Spring Root Vegetables with Parsley and Pesto deserved an equal amount of praise. I was hungry enough for a small dessert so I got the Beignets which was a sugar and cream pastry along with homemade jam which was also completely delightful yet not too rich. I love The Table and look forward to returning again in the future!

The Table slightly missed the mark. On design, service and food. Almost nice. Almost good. But not really. Dined here last night with a group of four. I won’t be returning back. I never mind paying more for something good. But here at The Table, food is overpriced for what it really is. C’mon guys… do you think I’ll pay 10 – 12 bucks on 3 fried rice balls just bc they taste okay? Anyone that understands good food will know that’s a big joke. The poké was horrible. I swear it tasted like unsweetened apple pie filling and the presentation was over dressed. My burger was good. I’ve had better again not worth $ 17. Duck was good again not worth $ 34. They price their food as if it were delicacies. The décor in this place was dark and unpleasant. Such a gorgeous day outside yesterday and inside felt gloomy. Lighting design is poor. Not a clean setup. Extension chords everywhere. Dinner was $ 250 for four of us. We got a bottle of Bordeaux as well. Server didn’t pour us wine. Just Gave us glasses and was very attentive to other tables. I don’t let small things ruin my dinner. I’m not even upset. Just an expensive lesson. I should’ve gone somewhere else. Almost good here… not enough.

Always a great experience! Went there for brunch and got eggs Benedict. My kids got French toast. The poached eggs were cooked perfect! My kids ate all the French toast, so I am going to say that dish was good also. Lol. They do not serve coffee, but they can make coffee drinks. I had the beer Mary made with an IPA. Interesting. Service was great. Very attentive. I will go back for brunch with the family again. My family and I like to go there for dinner as kids are welcome. My 11 year old love the oysters on the half shell. My 8 year old love the gnocchi. Also, they like the Arincini. The menu changes every so often and so far I have not had a disappointing meal. Derek, the chef, does a great job on keeping things fresh and flavorful. The Table is on the top of our list for family dining and also for date nights. Thank you Chef Derek!

We had a great experience here. Such a unique menu! They have a big shared table in the middle of the restaurant and smaller tables surrounding it. The atmosphere is really warm and welcoming. Instead of ordering a meal just for ourselves, we ordered a little bit of everything. The roast was the highlight for me, but all the plates were delightful. Not a gnocchi fan, but the rest of my group liked it. We had a great bottle of Zin with the meal and a couple of local beers. You must order Bread Pudding for dessert!

I may be a «harder grader» than others, and I look forward to a return visit and opportunity to revise my review. We visited on a Thursday night for my birthday celebration. Weeknights in January are quiet, I guess since many people are still recovering from Christmas spending, and trying to maintain a New Year’s resolution. My wife and I started by sitting across from each other, then, like the couple next to us, one moved so we could sit next to each other and hear ourselves. Seems like the acoustics could be readily improved by having some wall hangings and acoustic reflectors from the ceiling. I would imagine a crowded evening making it very difficult to converse. We had the elk steak, duck confit, beet salad and sautéed kale with bacon. The beet salad, duck and sautéed kale were excellent. My elk eating experiences have only been from eating freshly killed wild elk, which is really tender, so the somewhat chewy texture of this elk may be normal. But, something to be aware of if you order it. Our wine experience needed improvement. The list is quite short, which is ok, but it’s heavily weighted towards Washington, which tends to produce big, fruit forward wines. Our server did not appear to be very knowledgeable about the list, and was incorrect about the flavor profile. The Italian wine was described as light and fruity, but I knew from the geographic area that that was not a normal flavor profile, so I risked it, and was very happy with it. Veronese wine paired well with the duck and the elk. Another concern is that our server was very liberal in his use of cologne(I thought I was with my brother in law :-). I am not allergic, but some are, and more to the point, it masks your ability to smell and taste food and wine. Reviewing this review, it may come across as negative. That is not my intent. I’d definitely come back. The food itself is very good, and we also appreciated a visit from the chef. To earn the fourth star, I’d suggest: toning down on the cologne, having the server(s) educated on the wine choices, and looking at improving the acoustics through some simple measures.

Super friendly staff. Really engaged and enjoy their jobs. Very educated on the menu. Started with Roast beet salad. Luscious red and golden beets nestled on a smear of chèvre with lot of little surprises tuck throughout. Pickled carrot, dill, apple, candied hazelnut. Entrée was Salmon grilled. Bed of parsnips and celery root. Amazing charred flavor on the salmon. Perfect medium. Dessert will be chocolate affogato. House made chocolate ice cream with fresh brewed espresso poured over. One of my favorites. This place represents the growing slow food, farm to table movement in this area in a masterful way. I have to agree with other reviewers about the ear numbing noise level here. This place has the acoustics of a trash can. Not a great place for an intimate date for sure. But if you’re goal is culinary satisfaction, it’s worth enduring the extra decibels.

This definitely helps makes Tacoma a great place to be. The restaurant puts off a classy, casual, local, earthy vibe. We came for dinner as a family, and were told about a sensational happy hour that we didn’t need to sit at the bar for — awesome! We were feeling adventurous and, among other things, selected the most memorable rabbit biscuits and gravy. Don’t cringe! This was a picture-perfect small bite plate, loaded with savory flavor and just a dash of sweet(from this amazing current jelly) that you’ll just have to trust me on. While we sipped red wine, the kids enjoyed an all all-natural soda. My son picked the Apple cider and my daughter the cherry. Delicious! And without all of the guilt. For dinner my daughter had the gnocchi, which was like a fancy macaroni and cheese to her, my husband had the elk steak and I had the hanger steak. My son enjoyed the halibut and chips. All-around five stars. The chef even stop by or table. This place has it together. And, the absolute best place for red meat in Tacoma! I wouldn’t just recommend this to my friends, I recommend it to the world!

I don’t care how fresh, fancy, or down to earth you are I’ll never understand a business being so unprepared; you’re not even open until latter in the afternoon, there is no excuse for being out of something as simple as milk. No, you can’t order espresso because we’re out of milk, no one remembered to pick any up today, um ok, that’s really professional. I tried to order a soda, yet the ones that I was interested in were out as well. We ordered the pork belly, it was good. The kale salad wasn’t anything special, ok, but nothing to rave about; and their hanger steak was cooked perfectly. The pricing was decent, but for what you get I’m going to have to say that I’m in no hurry to return… Good, but not as amazing as I had hoped it would be.

Chef Derek Bray, formerly of Grassis in University Place, is the proprietor of The Table — a new addition to Tacoma’s 6th Avenue scene. It is auspiciously located next to Marrow, which sets the bar for innovative cuisine in Tacoma. Chef Bray works out where the patrons may watch him plate. Some chefs have taken to using Debakey surgical tweezers to do intricate plating — Chef Bray is one of them — & it is interesting to watch him & his sous chef work. If you’re into dinner as theatre, this may be your ticket. Both the décor & menu are streamlined, contemporary & casual. The menu is divided into small plates: sharables, salads and sides & large plates: which are entrees, including a beautiful«Roast Chicken for 2»($ 24). We started with a special: Kumamoto oysters on the half shell. They were dressed with prosecco, or other bubbly, and mustard seeds which had an effect on the brininess of the oysters. Served on a bed of mixed greens in a spicy vinaigrette. Very interesting and appetite stimulating! The Sharable items all look great, so I will have to return for the Biscuits & Rabbit Gravy($ 12) and Pork Belly with broth($ 10). We did have the Arincini($ 9), 3 rice balls served on bernaise — I loved the tarragon in the sauce because it gave the arincini a different taste. My fav was Rabbit Rillette($ 13) — rabbit confit with mustard seeds & currants. Served with toast and a delicious slaw of celery & apple in rice wine vinegar(I think), which cut the richness of the rabbit beautifully. There were 5 sides all priced at $ 7. The standout is the Ricotta Gnocchi«mac n cheese». The gnocchi is browned in butter and then bathed in a white sauce. Very decadent. The Large Plates are varied & well priced. We shared a Hangar Steak($ 27) served with heirloom tomatoes dressed with sherry vinegar & a little cheddar cheese. The meat was aged nicely and had terrific flavour. I’m returning soon for the drool-inducing Dork Burger($ 17) — a large patty of a 60⁄40 pork/duck blend. Desserts look delicious but we were too full. Seen & coveted: chocolate pudding with a quenelle of chocolate mousse, the plate studded with fresh blackberries. Service is ironing out kinks but overall very good — especially Kyle, our waiter, who had strong product knowledge & solid recommendations. We appreciated Chef Bray saying hello and checking on our meal. His thoughtful take on classic dishes utilizing local ingredients is a win for the Tacoma food scene.
