Sears Hearing Center by Beltone in the Tacoma Mall

My mother-​in-​law from Spokane came to live with us for a while. Her hearing aids were giving her problems. They were not working like they should. She had bought them from a private practice back in Spokane over six years ago that was no longer there, and there was no local affiliated office over here on the west side of the mountains to support them. We contacted Beltone and told them about her hearing aids and they said they would take a look at them and they should be able to do a cleaning and service them free of charge.
Since it was so long since she had been in to have her hearing tested, they offered a complementary hearing evaluation to be able to properly reset the settings of her hearing aids, if that should be what was needed. When I brought her in, they were so helpful and kind. The hearing care technician was so patient and explain things carefully to us both.
When they tested her they found that her hearing had declined quite a bit from the settings in her hearing aids, so they used a computer to adjusted them to fit her current hearing levels. The hearing aids were getting quite old and she had dropped one on the pavement once this winter and the shell had cracked. But another problem was that it had been so long since she had them made, they no longer properly fit in her ears and they didn’t seat well and always squealed when they were in hear ears so everyone around would hear. She couldn’t hear that noise of course, but to us it was pretty loud. There was not solution to the crack or the squealing problem aside from a new set of hearing aids. But the new levels settings did helped her hear with them better.
We were very impressed with their service and willingness to work with her hearing aids, even though she did not get them from Beltone. The hearing aids worked well for a while but we had to bring her back about six months later as she was once again starting to having difficulties. They would turn themselves off sometimes and she was gradually having difficulty hearing again. They did another complimentary hearing evaluation and cleaning of the aids. But this time we decided it was time to get a new set of hearing aids for her.
The hearing care practitioner and the staff were great about working with us — helping her understand the choices for functions she had available, as there was so much more new technology since she had last had a new pair. She helped her find something that was not to complicated for her to use, but would help her hear better than her old pair, and they explained how to use them to her so she could understand.
As they explained, they started her out a a lower setting to get her used to the new hearing aid. As the technology was so much better than the old ones, she would be hearing so much more. I was then to bring them back in for her a couple of weeks and they would bring the levels up to her suggested range, which I did. They are similar enough to her old ones in style that she is not confused with how to use them. Yet we can tell she can hear so much better, especially by the volume of the tv. She doesn’t have to have it blaring to be able to follow it now.
I was really impressed by Beltone’s service and their patience working with my mother-​in-​law through this whole thing. I would definitely recommend them.
