This isn’t the biggest park in Tacoma, but it’s one of my favorites. The playground equipment is newer and offers all the fun of the bigger parks. Slides, swings, climbing units, spinning pieces, etc. The ground cover are wood chips that must be refreshed often because every time I’ve been there over the past few years they look clean and new. But that’s not the best part. The best part is the copious amount of shade. Both the playground and the grassy hill overlooking the play area is awash in shade. Tacoma doesn’t get overwhelmingly hot often, but during those weeks in July or August when it does it’s nice to know this place will be cool and not overwhelmed with kids. Additionally, the park serves as an entry point to Puget Park Trail. It’s possible to hike from the park down the trail all the way to Ruston Way waterfront.
