It’s surprising that this menswear store has hardly any online publicity, even though it’s been a fixture of the Hilltop neighborhood since the 1980’s. When you need a unique yet affordable suit for that special occasion, skip the mall and head down to Hilltop instead. Go beyond the usual drab black tuxedo or plain business suit and picture that old-school Chicago, Detroit, or Harlem style of getting dressed up. Mr. Mac’s store is practically overflowing with snazzy suits in two-piece, three-piece, and zoot suit styles, in many different colors. He features a lot of suits from the Il Canto line out of Las Vegas, which is rather rare and difficult to find in this area. Personally, I have yet to buy a suit from Mr. Mac because many are quite loud, and I can’t think of anywhere to wear them! On the upper walls, you will notice lots and lots of dress hats in various styles such as fedoras, derby/bowlers, homburg/godfather, porkpie, etc., also in an array of different colors. Not to be overlooked are the dress shoes. Mr. Mac has several shelves of lower-priced shoes in all kinds of colors and styles, as well as genuine leather shoes from Stacy Adams, if you’re willing to pay more for the higher quality. I have bought two pairs of shoes here as well as belts and socks, and I am quite pleased with these items. Just keep in mind that the cheaper shoes from the bulk shelves aren’t really made to be worn all the time; save them for special occasions, since they won’t last as long as real leather(the same goes for a lot of the belts). So don’t miss out on this little store, which is a unique spot in all of Tacoma!
