I have lived in Tacoma for over 15 years and I honestly lost all hope in finding really good chinese food in this city. Then a friend of mine told me about this place and oh my goodness, this is exactly what I was looking for. First of all, if you are unfamiliar with the area, if you blink you will drive right by it, it has a very low key outer appearance. But once you walk inside you are brought right into the kind of environment that you expect from a Chinese restaurant. It is kind of dark, red and tan, dark brown, outdated artwork, big fish tank with a giant lonely looking fish inside. The service is very quick, we had water and tea immediately. I ordered the bbq pork appetizer and the pork egg foo young. Second of all, I consider myself an egg foo young connoisseur, it is usually the only thing I ever order when I go out to eat at a chinese restaurant, I have had a million different kinds. This one ranks right up there with the top five best I have ever had. It is absolutely delicious, the perfect amount of crispy to gravy, to egg, to meat. It is simply amazing. Also another good thing to note about this restaurant is the booths seem really private. I was worried because a large family came in after us and sat in the booth next to us and I thought they were going to be loud but we could barely hear them. I love this place, I am officially a customer for life.

I’ve been coming here for 30 years. The food has really gone down hill. The last three times have been terrible. The BBQ pork and egg rolls are good but that’s about it. Won’t be coming back here

Nice place, don’t let the outside scare you away. I like to order a egg roll to start. See ifs it is home made or a Costco special. The real deal here folks. Great food, great flavor, more then a fair price.

The wife and I love it. Their food compares to The Great Wall of China restaurant. The Almond Chicken is excellent, the Chicken chow mein is just like the Great Wall. The General Tso is my favorite. It is worth it and the price is reasonable.

I was raised on Hong Kong Chinese restaurant. When I go somewhere different. I’m always disappointed. Because they are not as good as this restaurant.

My husband and I agree this is the worst excuse of Chinese cuisine we’ve ever had. From the beginning, I should have known something was up. We got seated away from all other customers, despite there being tons of room. My husband ordered the Broccoli Beef and I got the Kung Pao Chicken. We also ordered the sampler platter. The soup tasted like Chicken Ramen mix with too much onion. I’ve never seen or tasted such a disgusting egg roll. I’ve never tasted such awful sweet and sour sauce. You couldn’t even taste the shrimp. The Broccoli Beef sat in this off-white sauce, congealed over everything. The broccoli was hardly cooked. The Kung Pao Chicken was congealed as well, with uncooked veggies. The chicken itself was a strange texture and horribly chewy. The rice was tasteless. The fortune cookies were not prepackaged. They set plain cookies on a dirty check tray.

We wanted a variety of foods and we got this here. Ordered a few Dinner for 2 plates and were impressed by how much food we got. The Potstickers & Soup were awesome! The Orange Chicken was good with lots of yummy sauce. The Happy Family was saturated in sauce. Not a big fan of the sweet and sour sauce — more vinegar than sweet. Word of caution to migraine suffers — this place uses MSG. You can ask for it to not be used but it is no where on their menu that they use MSG so I didn’t think to ask. Lesson learned — ALWAYSASK! The waiter was friendly and knowledgeable with lots of information about the variety of foods that they serve as well as other places to eat in the area. Good place for a romantic date night. Good place to take the family. Not the best but good.

I’ve been coming here for YEARS ! since 1999, my husband introduced me to this place. The best around. Food is always constant and we always order 2 Hong Kong’s w/BBQ pork usually to go, occasionally we dine in. Only bad thing I have to say is… NEVEREVER leave your valuables in the car, I have first hand knowledge of a car break in. took my card only in to pay, was gone 5 mins. broke the window and purse was gone. The thieves won’t touch the cars if no valuables left in there. Just warning. But the food is awesome. long time staff try to get to know you. $ 36.00 for two. is not bad and there is enough for two plus leftovers later or the next day. I really hate going anywhere else.

Not authentic Chinese food at all. Food is plain. We ordered scallop hong kong and stream bean with beef and their classic HK fried rice. Way far from he food we had in Seattle. American Chinese food.

We went here for lunch the other day and it was a disappointing experience. They were quite busy with almost every table filled and a constant stream of to go orders filing through, yet only one waitress. We received the tea and first initial glasses of water, but that’s it. My mom already knew what she wanted as I had read her the menu in the car, so it was a quick order before the super rush happened. The food that day was so/so. Not what I had previously had during a dinner experience there, but still better than anything you’d find in Olympia or Lacey. The Almond chicken is better than most and it is the typical American Chinese food you’ve come to expect. This is our favorite comfort food, so we’ve started a search for the best in the area. This rates at the top so far, but I didn’t enjoy the food as much as we had during the evening. Long story short, I would skip a lunch here and opt for dinner instead. Better service and better chefs, but with the same menu and prices.

At the risk of revealing my relatively advanced age and somewhat sheltered childhood; way, WAY back in the day this was the only kind of chinese food you could find. The parents would take us out to the Great Wall or Forbidden City restaurants and you would eat the greased-out Almond Chicken with canned gravy and gooey, tastless Chow Mein and like it because thats all you knew. Being older now and realizing that theres other culinary styles of chinese food, you appreciate that our society has advanced to embrace a more varied(and healthy) Asian dining experience. As a nod to old memories, I’ll more than likely eat here sometime again in the distant future. Until then, I’m sticking to the places that have non-breaded and fried chicken, vegetables and sliced almonds in their Almond Chicken, thank you.

If you’re looking for the typical«Americanized» Chinese food where everything is extremely greasy and deep fried, this is your place. Upon entering, we were not greeted in a timely manner and were asked to seat ourselves when the one waitress came passing by. Looking around, you notice that everything is dingy, dusty, and outdated. The carpet is badly stained from age and foot traffic, and the silverware looked to be from the Ming Dynasty. That being said, the restaurant was pretty full, and the parking lot was packed — so, I still had hope. It took quite a while for the waitress to come around providing water and hot tea, and then quite a while longer to deliver wonton soup. The same went for the timeframe of her picking up our soup, refilling our waters, and finally taking our order. She seemed rushed and was extremely short with answers. Clearly, people do not come here for the service. After we ordered(there were three of us), it took an inordinate amout of time for our food to be delivered. We sat down at about 3:40pm and didn’t get our food until probably 4:20pm — the kitchen seemed well staffed from the noise/chatter, and perhaps it was because there was only one waitress. No matter, I was still disappointed in the wait — it wasn’t even dinner time! When our food finally came, everything was hot and seemed freshly made. Almond chicken was crispy, rice was hot as well as the sweet and sour chicken. Everything tasted okay — none of it was bad or bland, but I’ve had WAY better. Prices were okay as well, we paid about $ 11/each for our meals which consisted of wonton soup, pork fried rice, almond chicken, sweet and sour chicken, and chow mein. We all had leftovers as well. All-in-all, we wont be going back. It just wasn’t good enough.
