A Plus Computer Tech

I’ve taken my computers here twice now. The first time I took both of my laptops here. The first time around I was only able to afford the repairs to one of my laptops so I paid for the repairs on the computer my household used the most. They also started working on my second laptop without my authorization and repaired a considerable part of it before they caught themselves and realized they didn’t have the «ok» from me to work on it. They didn’t charge me for what they did work on so I let it slide. They did pretty good work on the repairs that I did pay for. I took the other laptop home with me which was still partially repaired.
So a number of months went by and I was able to get the partially repaired computer completely fixed now. I took it on a Saturday and Steve was with me. There was one guy working there, brown hair, pony tail and glasses. He looked up the old work order so he could see what needed to be done with it still. He printed up a paper with the new work order number. We looked at our contact information and told him that the phone number was not correct. He scratched out the old number and wrote in my current number. Everything seemed to be going fine so far. He said they would probably get it fixed in a day or two and they would call me.
The entire week went by without a call. I figured they had backlog and would call them next Saturday to see if it was done. I called the following Saturday and on the phone apparently they couldn’t find my computer to see if it was done or not. I gave them my last name and Steve’s last name. They only looked under my last name not Steve’s. They asked for an order number on an invoice which they gave me last Saturday. Of course that was lost which was on me but my frustration was mounting. I was told to call back and to make sure I even had a job with them.
I got in the car and went over there. Same guy who was there last Saturday and apparently who took my call. I paid for the work. He said we did call you and leave a message. I looked at the receipt and it had the old phone number which was the number that was supposed to have been scratched out. I told him this was not my phone number and in a condescending tone I get, «Well that’s why you didn’t get a call».
Instead of arguing with him that they did have the right number at some point I left. Nothing is more aggravating when staff at businesses try to make you look like the incompetent one when they have all the information I could possibly provide to them to make a smooth transaction.

Not so great of an experience with this place. The day I left my computer I was told they’d do a diagnostic and call me back. They said they could install Windows 10 but they would have to wipe everything off the computer, but they would keep stuff like my documents and pictures. I never received the call when they did the diagnostic, next thing I know is my computer is ready, a $ 164 bill, Windows 10 installed and all my documents and pictures gone. Some issues my computer was having were resolved but others are still there. I guess I’m upset for them not checking back with me after the diagnostic and making sure what it was I wanted, I thought everything was clear but no. Central location but horrible business hours.

I upgraded to Windows 10 which caused a glitch in my laptop. After reverting back to Windows 8, my laptop would not go online. I called A+ and they said they could do a free diagnostic. I brought it in and told the person (later I found out his name is Darren) what was going on. He turned the laptop on and put his ear to it and said the hard-​drive was failing and suggested they upgrade the hard-​drive. I told him I couldn’t afford the hard-​drive upgrade and that I would prefer to just get the glitches fixed. He was persistent about the hard-​drive, but once again I said I couldn’t not afford it right now. Darren said that the work orders are first come first serve, but for an extra $ 25 he could start working on it immediately.
That night around 6:30, another employee called me and said he started working on my laptop and it would be ready the next day. He tried to persuade me to get the hard drive upgrade because my laptop was really slow (I didn’t have a huge problem with slow performance). I told him I could not afford it. The same man called back an hour later and said he spoke to his manager about the the hard-​drive upgrade. He said they could install it for just the price of the hard-​drive and I wouldn’t have to pay the price of labor. I approved the upgrade and went to pick up the laptop the next day. The power cable that was with my laptop was not my power cable. It took a few minutes for the employee to find the right one.
When I got home, I opened the laptop to find that the corner of the keyboard frame near the power button was loose. The keyboard frame pops open and clicks when I open and close the laptop (which never happened before I took it in).
I called A+ the next day and told Darren what was going on with the broken keyboard frame. He said «hold on, let me check that work order…» He came back on the phone and said that the screw was loose when they were working on it. I said there wasn’t a problem before I brought it in. He said to bring it in and he would look at it.
The next day, I brought it in and he looked at it. While looking at it, he helped another customer and answered the phone a couple of times. He said that he could order a replacement, but it would cost us more. I asked him why he thinks we should pay for the repair if they were responsible for it. He said that he wouldn’t charge me for the repair ONLY if he could undo the previous repairs he made to the laptop. He said that the piece of plastic wasn’t broken intentionally and we should be grateful that he took off the price of labor for the hard-​drive upgrade. I reminded him that I wasn’t notified about the broken piece when they first called me (which led me to believe that they knew they were responsible and tried to cover it up by offering me a good deal on the hard-​drive upgrade). I told him that I’ll notify the Better Business Bureau and as I was walking out, I said this was the worst customer service experience I ever had to deal with. We walked out and while I was talking to my significant other and opening the car door, he came out and started cussing at us. I called the other store and they told me the man who we had the incident with was the owner. If anybody in the Pacific Northwest area needs computer repairs, I would suggest looking elsewhere.

I took my laptop here with a bad hard drive and 500gb files that I didn’t think I would ever get back. After Apple couldn’t do anything for me, I brought my computer here for a free diagnostic. They said that would take a few days, but it only took one and he called me with «good news.» I was thrilled. They could retrieve my files. The price was extremely reasonable, especially given what another company wanted to charge me. All hope isn’t lost – try this place out! Professional and friendly service and a very nice/​clean facility.

Nathan in Tacoma was excellent. From the first phone call through the entire process. Highly recommend for stress free and hassle free repair. And a LOT less expensive that the Apple Store.

Just like the other guy who left a review, I chose this place based on its 5 star rating on Unilocal.First off, two stars for convenient location and a clean, well-​kept shop. But boy do I wish I would have read the individual reviews before dropping my machine off. I run an online business and use my iMac extensively for this reason. So onto my visit.
Everything seemed cool at first. I dropped my machine off on ⁵⁄₂₄ and let them know the problems I was having. Pop ups galore to the point of crippling my machine. They said they would do a free diagnostic, call me in a few days to let me know the results and give me a quote on the repair. Great! Talk to you later.
A WEEK goes by and I haven’t heard from them so give them a call. They tell me they have been really busy and just started my diagnostic and it will be a couple more days until they have any word for me but they’ll call me and let know what’s going on ASAP. Ok, cool…
3 more days go by and I still haven’t heard anything from them so I give them another call. They say my machine has a bad hard drive and needs to be replaced. They quote me, I agree to it, noting that I need my machine back ASAP as I’m losing business and money by the day. They say okay it should be done by Friday afternoon and we’ll give you a call to let you know it’s ready to be picked up. Alright…
Saturday (today) noonish rolls around and I still haven’t received ONE call from them so I call AGAIN! They say the hard drive wasn’t actually bad, I just had some corrupted files but it’s all ready to go! Sweet! I show up 15 minutes later, pay the piper and go home to immediately set my computer back up. :) Turn it on and what do you know?! It’s still doing the exact same thing it was doing when I dropped it off! Still inoperable! Ugh!
I call them AGAIN, bothered, and let them know it’s absolutely not repaired and I’d like a refund. It’s not repaired and I need it to function! Quickly please! After a lot of uhs and ums, they tell me to call the Bellevue location to speak with the owner. Bro…
I call the Bellevue store and get a hold of a manager, David, and explain the situation. He says since it’s the weekend he can’t do anything but call the other guys and find out what’s going on, and if I want a refund that usually takes 2 – 3 WEEKS to process and he’ll call me back ASAP to let me know what’s going on. Am I in the twilight zone?!!
I paid nearly $ 200 CASH in labor fees to your company less than an hour ago and nothing can be done RIGHT NOW?!
So two weeks and a couple hundred dollars later I’m out my money and still have an inoperable computer, unable to run my business and unable to take my computer somewhere else to get it fixed because «A Plus Tech» has a hold on my money.
You don’t get an A+, you get an F.
Don’t take your machine here unless you have an extremely simple issue or have an abundance of time and money to throw away. I’m writing this review from my phone! That should tell you enough.

A technician named Nathan helped my sister with her Windows 8 laptop, installing a Wim7 start menu app and teaching her about Windows Updates for free, and a few other things over 20 minutes today. I had phoned the shop after seeing the great reviews on Unilocal,and now I know why I see 4 – 5 stars from everyone.
I work for Dell Security in Santa Clara, CA, in customer escalations, and spent a lot of time in technical support roles. I know when I see people who genuinely like what they do, who are kind, and who believe in service, knowing that good deeds will get noticed and rewarded. That is how Nathan acts, and I would bet the culture of this shop is based on it. Two thumbs up.

These guys are the best. They truly care about your devices and are good under time constraints. I use my laptop for my job and I work from home. When my computer started crashing and not turning on, I took it to them and they fixed it up that day. Only once have I had to leave it there but it was for diagnosis. The dudes ripped it apart and cleaned it out and put it back together, and it runs like a charm now. I also learned a lot from just talking to them about virus protection and malware removal and other various tech aspects of my computer.
These guys have saved my @$$ on this computer! Can’t thank enough!

I cannot say enough about my experience with A Plus Computer Tech! I spilled liquid in my macbook during finals week and I was quoted and a astronomical amount by the Apple Store to have it fixed. A Plus Computer Tech fixed it for ¼ of the price I was quoted by Apple. They were very considerate of that fact that I would need my laptop for finals week and found a solution that was both reasonably priced and quick. They also took care of a virus on my computer (that I didn’t even know I had). I will deifnitely return to A Plus Computer Tech if I have any more computer problems and would recommend them to anyone!

These guys are great! I got a virus, they cleaned it up. After two weeks got another, don’t think it was because of them, I might have downloaded something and McAfee sucks BTW! They took it back and got rid of the second infection for FREE! These guys are good, knowledgeable and friendly. I recommend anyone in the Tacoma area to give them business.

These guys were SUPER friendly and helpful! My HP had an accident caused by a dog that basically shattered the LCD screen… of course it was outside warranty and upon calling HP they were going to charge me $ 300 to fix it, and were going to do a bunch of stuff to other hardware etc. and when I received the computer back it would be like a brand new machine, however I did not need it to be a brand new machine and this would have included losing all my pics, docs, and music not to mention shipping it back and forth. I was NOT having it, so I started calling some repair places in my area. A Plus was the first one that told me the actual cost of the screen part without seeing it first, so I took it to them. I brought it in on a Monday kinda late in the day, but before the end of the day they had called me with the estimate, and it was HALF the cost of HP! I instantly approved and by Thursday my computer was back in my hands as good as new (only still with my music, etc). These guys are professional and did a great job, and I will recommend them to everyone as well as bring my computer back for any future work!

I’m so happy I found this place on Unilocal!I took my Macbook Pro into the Apple store for a problem with the battery and they informed me that there was water damage (which I was not aware of) and it would be $ 750 to replace, Applecare aside. My computer is not worth that much, so I packed up and left and went across the street to A Plus instead.
It was initially fixed in less than 24 hours, which was very impressive service! I went in the day after I dropped it off and they had had it up and running and everything seemed fine. The total fix was $ 200 as opposed to Apple’s $ 750! When I got home and tried to turn it on though, it wouldn’t boot up correctly. I took it back later that day and was able to pick it up three days later with a brand new (and upgraded) hard drive for another $ 250.
The customer service was excellent! They called me several times to let me know what was going on, how much it was going to be, and when it would be done, which I really appreciated! The three day wait to fix my hard drive probably would have been avoided if it wouldn’t have been for bad timing — I got back to the store right after he left for his weekend. They seemed much more knowledgable than Apple techs and I felt like my computer was in better hands than if I had shipped it off to Apple. They also seemed very honest rather than trying to pretend that extra things were broken and prices were very reasonable. They’re great!

If you read my review below you may get a sense of my annoyance with this repair shop. I spoke with Stephen (Steven?) on Thursday afternoon and was quite fired up, telling him I would be picking up my computer the next day and that I was disappointed and upset by the lengthy inconvenience and I really was not expecting
much in way of response.
The next morning at 7am I received a call from Stephen letting me know that he’d come in early to ensure my repair was complete. When I went in to pick up my computer I was already regretting my call from the day before, so when I was greeted by Stephen and given an explanation of the delay, followed by a heartfelt apology for the whole experience, a reduced invoice and a handwritten coupon on the back of his card I was completely chagrined. He even apologized for the early morning call which I thought was just dear.
The little old lady who was being helped next to me made the moment pretty much Disney perfect when she asked me what I thought, I said impressed and she replied, «I certainly always am!» before she was cheerfully escorted to her car, her tech carrying her laptop bag for her.
So what came across as incompetence/​laziness was really just scheduling snafu and I take my hat off to some of the best customer service I’ve reviewed in a while.

My IMac completely shut down a couple weeks ago, In a panic I immediately took my Mac into the Apple store. They kept it over night and called the next day to inform me that my motherboard had gone out and the cost to fix was $ 600+.
For some reason my gut told me I needed a second opinion. I did my research and found A Plus Computer online, I dropping my IMac off with them and with in a couple days they called to inform my that there was nothing wrong with my computer, all it needed was a new power cord. WOW! How shocking, Apple really did not run any tests on my computer, my motherboard was fine. The Apple store not only waisted my time and gas by dropping my computer off and picking it up but they also could have gotten away with a lot of money if I were to not have had my gut feeling.
Besides the fact that A plus computers has fixed my IMac, Their customer service was impressive, they were honest, beyond friendly, In particular Nathan and Steven. I highly recommend one rethinking Apple is the best place to take your Mac. At A Pus Computers you will not only save money but receive truthful & above & beyond service at a much lower cost.

I chose to have my computer looked at here because of it’s incredibly high rating on Unilocal.Now I’m not an idiot when it comes to computers, so the fact that I had to get a professional to look at it means that there really were issues (essentially an unresponsive computer). Here’s a review to temper your expectations.
My first issue is that it took them an entire week before they even looked at my computer. They said they diagnose computer problems on a first come, first served basis. That’s understandable, but an entire week before even looking at the problem? C’mon man.
Second, they made their initial diagnosis two days later than they said they would (faulty hard drive), and it took a call from me to them to get that information. They said the repairs would be done in 2 days. 4 days later, again, I decided to call them to find out the status of the repair. I understand computers can be a bitch to fix, but at least communicate with the customer.
Finally, I was told by the tech that my computer would be ready by the end of the day, but when I got there right before closing, the tech hadn’t done the last step to restore my computer, so he needed it for another day. All in all, it took nearly three weeks to get my computer back in my hands.
All that being said, my computer works ok now, the repairs cost $ 298 (they didn’t include taxes in their quote, but I guess it’s my fault for not asking), and the techs aren’t jerks.
Bottom Line: This business needs to do a better job of accurately estimating the time it will take to diagnose/​fix issues, and needs to communicate with customers more often and more effectively.

The service could not have been faster or more responsive. When I called with a question about my laptop, I was offered advice and options over the phone about handling what I wanted to do by myself. I decided to take the computer into A Plus Computer Tech’s shop later the same day rather than mess with the computer myself. Because it was a relatively easy fix, they were able to do it while I waited. They also offered me the option of using a used part for the fix (which I accepted.) The labor charge was very fair which along with the savings of a used part made the overall cost much lower than I anticipated. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable delivering excellent service at a great price.

Incredible. Had spilled oil on my MacBook Pro and the keyboard was going. Nathan helped order me a new keyboard and they replaced it cheaper and faster than I had hoped. Great service, trustworthy and great price. Very friendly and knowledgeable.

eyyyyy… I got virus… how could that happen??? I’m so good at watching what I open, but somehow I got one… I feel soooo dirty!!!
I called A Plus who fixed me right up. Nathan is so easy to work with. He had previously helped with a cover replacement on my laptop. Price is very reasonable and the service the best! Close to home, great service, easy to work with tech guy… who could ask for more. Nathan also made some recommendation on what they use as a anti-​virus program and might want to consider once my McAffee subscription end.

There are not enough words to say how happy I am with the Tacoma store. I called this morning all upset about my iPad. Nathan was so caring and told me to bring it in and he saved the day. He was so nice and I could not have been more pleased. He has restored my faith in mankind. I have referred this store and Nathan to all my friends. He also helped with my daughters hard drive when she had dropped it. They have made me a customer for life.

I am so happy with A-​Plus. Mostly I have worked with Darren. As a 70 year old woman I often feel intimidated by computers. Not only did Darren fix the problem with my software but he showed me how to do the things I like to do with less trouble. I feel so comfortable at A-​Plus that I drop by there for even what some might call simple questions and they never make me feel stupid.
