Great diner with homey and friendly atmosphere! Staff was very friendly and attentive to my cup of coffee, always refilled before empty. It took about 20min to get our food but they were busy and were very apologetic about the wait. I got the western omelet, which was just right with fresh peppers, onions, and plenty of ham. It also came with home fries and toast. We also ordered French toast which was excellent. I definitely plan to go back!

Excellent local diner for breakfast. Ham and cheese omelette was great. Friendly, clean and home style cooking. What more do you need? Recommended.

I have passed by J R Diner many times only to think that their parking lot was full because of all the cars parked out front. I astutely observed(finally) that they have a large private lot on the side of the building so, parking is no problem ! On Saturdays, they close at 1:00PM and I squeaked in there at about 12:30PM. I grabbed one of their large, high backed wooden booths along the front window. From there, I could see almost the entire menu, which is posted on the wall behind the counter. As I looked around, I was quite happy to see that the place was nice and clean while maintaining a true, old fashioned diner atmosphere. I was greeted seated and asked if I wanted coffee as soon as I sat down. The coffee arrived very quickly and I enjoyed the warm beverage while I decided what to eat. When the waitress returned, I requested a ham and cheese omelet, hash-browns, toast and a side order of breakfast sausage. The price was only $ 6.25 plus about $ 2 bucks for the sausage. I thought I would be getting very small portions or skimpy fillings in the omelet but, surprise… I received one large plate with a very nicely prepared omelet that was very obviously filled with meat and cheese. The hash browns were golden brown, crispy and tender, and I could taste the potatoes not some overpowering seasoning. On the side plate were two pieces of whole wheat toast and a single breakfast sausage patty. The sausage was about the size of a quarter pound burger so, I had plenty of meat at my breakfast. Service was very polite, genuine, prompt, coffee refilled, the meal prepared accurately and most of all, everything was fresh, hot and tasty throughout. I won’t hesitate to return ASAP !

Average diner fare, but done well. Egg over easy had right amount of yokeyness, but not that watery egg white thing that you get sometimes. The homefries were a little salty, but they were real potatoes with flavor! It can be a novelty sometimes nowadays. Coffee was great and someone was always standing by ready to refresh it for you. This is a typical greasy spoon stop that offers diner fare and fair prices.

One of Syracuse’s best kept secrets! Amazing french toast, the freshest tasting eggs I have ever had in a diner, homefries with a flavor that isn’t ALL grease, fresh well roasted coffee, real easy prices and super friendly staff. Can’t wait to go back and have lunch! You know what they say about Greek diners, it is all 100% true with J R Diner.
