We came as a girls weekend and I was expecting o much more after hearing how Mario Batelli or whom ever recommended this place. Lets just say fish tasted fishy and any form of chip or croutons was was too harsh for the roof of my mouth. Flavors lacked but personality of service was super. I would not come again nor would I recommend it to others. Lacked. Very disappointed.

A great find for the localvore. The location is beautiful, the dishes were well executed, the cheese was delicious, and the wine was pleasant.

Our pizza was to die for! The hard cider was yummy, too. I can confirm that Mario Batali’s review of this restaurant was 150% legit. We will definitely go back on our next Traverse City trip!

Had to to stop after seeing Mario Batalli recommend the place on Good Morning America but wasn’t actually expecting much since I have been coming to the area for 30 years and figured if there was a good eatery up here, I would already know about it. WRONG. It’s a simple casual place which you would never find unless you already knew about it or were there for Black Star’s Wine Tasting or Bed and Breakfast. Pretty limited menu but everything we had was top notch. The bread starter we got was made before our eyes in the wood burning stone oven in back of the bar. It came with two dipping options — a cheese/basil/olive oil concoction which was out of this world along with some very fresh tomato sauce. The local wine was excellent also. The four mushroom pizza did not disappoint either with everything tasting made from scratch(probably because it was). We finished with some pistachio gelato and there were(you guessed it) bits of actual pistachio nuts int there. Yum. he final amazement(which I cant really given them credit for) was a storm came through while we were eating and created a full rainbow outside the place. I ran outside and took the picture(posted). This I would say helped the atmosphere rating quite a bit. Give this place a go while out hiking or wine tasting but check the hours which are limited.

Hearth & Vine has one very beautiful thing going for it… FOOD. Yes, food. Novel idea, right? Right. And, why would a restaurant NOT have food? Well, it would. But, most of the Leelanau County wineries do not have an eatery or any place to eat(and absorb carbohydrates)…so after one might have been drinking for say 3 – 4 hours(those«tastes» add up!) finding a sweet little café on the grounds of a beautiful winery is nothing short of a godsend. Truth. Located on the grounds of Black Star Farms Winery. And, ya know… a café placed on an actual farm, bound to have good stuff. Indeed! The order: *beet salad with goat cheese: heaven. *margherita pizza with mushrooms: savior. *couple waters(dehydration nation), couple DC’s *hummus plate(where are the veggies!?) *Leelanau Cheese spread + crackers With indoor and outdoor seating, this can be somewhat of a formal stop(indoors) with white table cloths or quite informal(recommended for those that might be loud/drunk or disorderly… I kid!) outdoors with plastic picnic tables. It’s a great little market if you happen to live in the area(pizza takeout!) or be staying at the B&B, and you’ll be sending me a million thank-you’s as you notice this on the Unilocal app and are in desperate need of sustenance after a beautiful day of wine tasting. Trust me. The staff is very friendly, but they do keep quite strange hours. Check the website before you head over… but, if they’re open, you are in luck! And, you can continue on your merry way, drinking up the countryside. Eat. Eat. Eat. If you do not do it here, the options become slimmer and slimmer!!!
