I was looking for some cheap, quick dim sum and this place was not too far away. I went in to grab some takeaway. It certainly wasn’t fancy looking, but if the dim sum is great I don’t care. The staff was pleasant, and I got the siu mai, har gow, and steamed pork buns(each $ 2.85 per order of 3). Unfortunately the dim sum just wasn’t that great. The wrap of the har gow was a weird combination of gummy and watery, and the shrimp inside tasted a bit strong/metallic. The dough of the pork bun also wasn’t as good in taste or texture as I’ve had in numerous other places. So, while it wasn’t an awful experience, I won’t be back.

It was around 3pm when I was craving dim sum and since I was late to every restaurant that offered it only in the morning/noon, Dim Sum King was the next best choice. Not the greatest tasting dim sum but for the cheap prices and having a good amount of dim sum choices much later in the day is great. Pros Fried Dim Sum: the shrimp dumplings, shrimp bean curd wrap, and shrimp balls was really good. Plenty of filling in each dumpling and sizes of each dumpling were huge. However depending on when you show up, the fried items can taste stale if it has been under the heat lamp for too long. Cons Steamed Dim Sum: Siu mai and har gow were too bland. The skin on the har gow was too tough.

This place is good but I won’t order from here anymore because I found a short strand of hair in the steamed pork bun

Just realized that I always write reviews only when I am super upset with the experience, and so, those places that pleasantly surprises me do not get any justice. Worse, I ended up looking like someone who only criticizes and can never be pleased. Well, Dim Sum King surprises me, in a really nice way. The place does not look like it’s anything to go ga-ga for. But, the dim sum selection is great, and they taste as great, or even better. I did not try the dishes that go with rice/noodles, but only the dim sum. Tried about 8 different types, and they are all good. The only exception is the egg tarts. The filling tastes a little«artificial» but then again, few places can make really good egg tarts so I forgive them. Perfect place for take-out. It’s like a In-and-Out for dim sum. Will be back.

I love this place as you can get in and out in just a couple of minutes, especially during the weekday lunch rush. Everything that I have had is very good. It is a stone’s throw from the NOVA Job Center, which is excellent for me. Just one issue that I have experienced a number of times, which is that some of the folks don’t speak Chinese. Don’t understand why. After all, this is the Silicon Valley and this place is located in Sunnyvale which has a lot of Chinese residents residing in the city. It would be extremely difficult to converse with someone such as an elderly person who only speaks Chinese. I will return again as it is the only dim sum fast food place in Sunnyvale.

This place was solid but the«King,» I don’t think so. We ordered about 10 different things on the menu and everything left me with a «this was alright» reaction. My girlfriend and I go crazy for BBQ pork buns, both steamed and baked, and both of theirs was way too heavy on the dough/bread and way too light on the meat.

I have seen this place numerous times and reviews had me peaked. Just wish it lived up to my expectations. I was next door at Michael’s shortly before the lunch hour and figured I would stop in and grab something before heading back to the office. Glad I did because I know now to never come back here again unless absolutely necessary. «Pork Football» was greasier than expected — I could taste the old oil. «Taro Puffball» — was bland and pasty. What meat filling they had in there wasn’t really seasoned. Ha Gow/Shrimp Dumpling was actually decent — fresh tasting. My favorite Daikon Cake was okay — really seemed on the bland side. Small order of Chow Fun —(enter really sad emoji face) :(Bland tasting. I typically never add soy sauce to my Chinese food — it’s just not something I do with food that is tasty/vibrant enough. Thank god I found a soy sauce packet at my desk…

Fast and easy take-out. They have a pretty good selection of pre-made dim sum items and everything tasted as they would at a sit-down restaurant. I would definitely come back if I’m in the area and I want a low-stress dim sum experience.

Dim Sum King is a true hero, providing Sunnyvale with decently cheap and authentic dim sum foods at any given day of the week! The boyfriend and I come here more often than we’d like to admit and order up STACKS of dimsum to feast on. You point at what you want, and they pack everything up for you. It’s a dangerous process because it all adds up pretty fast — kind of like the actual dim sum experience, ACTUALLY… Everything is authentic and priced around $ 2 – 5 per dish. Some things I order more frequently than others: – Lotus leaf sticky rice(«lo mai gai»): this one is the best deal because you get three and they’re super filling! – Crazy shrimp balls: these are so crispy and delicious! But very addictive. You’ve been warned. – Shrimp & chive dumpling: really plump and juicy — one of my faves. I would shy away from their side promotions like the curry chicken over rice(wayyyyy too much rice, not enough curry) and stick to their dimsum classics. Holla from a DSK faithful.

I love dim sum, so I was excited to try this place yesterday after reading the reviews. This place is just OK at best. The dim sum is large, and if you get the individual pieces, they’re quite pricey at $ 2.85 each on average. You can get 3 or 6 pieces of dim sum plus a ton of chow mein or fried rice. There are two or three kind of noodle sides to choose from I think. As for the other pre made food, it looked gross and mushy. It was obvious that it was out there the whole day. Most of the dim sum has shrimp in it which is fine by me, but more options would be nice. Also, most of the dim sum was deep friend. There weren’t to many steamed dim sum options to choose from. I got a side of chow mein and 6 pieces of dim sum since I hardly had much to eat that day. The dim sum had lots of shrimp in it, but the pork one which was fried, was like eating mostly fried dough. I also got a veggie only spring roll which was OK. I got almost as much chow mein as they’d serve as an entrée at a Chinese restaurant! That cost me a little over $ 10 with a bottle of water. I’m glad that the chili sauce was nice and hot as I needed that spice to make the dim sum less bland. I didn’t detect any ginger or onions in anything that I had. Also, the chow mein hardly had any veggies in it. It was kind of bland too, so I had to use a lot of soy sauce on it. Now I’m bloated from consuming all that grease and salt today, ugh! They also sell Chinese cookies individually and in packs as well as fried won ton strips and fortune cookies. At least I didn’t leave there hungry, lol.

This place was okay or maybe I just had a lot better? The shrimp balls were okay and the shrimp dumplings were pretty good. The fried rice was super bland, pretty much tasted like steam rice — had to add a ton a soy sauce for flavor. The veggie dumpling had a really strong taste to them, didn’t really like them. It was affordable, $ 2.95? for 3. Overall the food was alright for a local dim sum but not sure if I’ll come back because it’s making my stomach feel really funky, same with my boyfriend.

Definitely a hit or miss store. I came once when it opened at 10 and everything was fresh and tasty. I also came a little late in the afternoon and everything seemed like it’s been sitting out for awhile. If you want some fairly decent dim sum for a fairly reasonable price, check this place out.

Great variety of dim sum stuff along with bowls and plate lunches. Prices are reasonable and it seemed like fresh food items were coming out i on a regular basis. You can get food to go or eat there. Only challenge they have 4 tables and the place is small. Food was tasty and portions bigger than a normal dim sum place. Seems like they are open 7 days a week. Glad I tried it as I’ll be back!

When I get a dim sum hankering, it’s usually at a random time of day, not the typical weekend brunch time for dim sum. I love Dim Sum King(DSK) because I can get my fix quickly and cheaply. Located in one of the many strip malls in Sunnyvale, there’s usually ample parking. I always get takeout, since there’s only a few tables to use, which are almost always full when I go. You just pick up an order slip to fill out while you’re in line. The wait isn’t too long, the employees work quickly. I tend to get the same thing every time — har gow(shrimp dumplings), siu mai(pork and shrimp dumplings) and pot stickers. I love that their har gow’s dough isn’t too thick. They’re perfect two-bite snacks! The siu mai is delicious. I love the filling, savory but not salty. My son likes the pot stickers — I’ve never tried them because he eats them before i can! They have a large refrigerator case of various beverages to wash down your dim sum. They also have a large section of noodle and made to order Chinese dishes. I hope to try them next time. In terms of price, convenience and tastiness, DSK is a winner in my eyes.

My ex-wife had told me about this place near my house about 5 years ago, but it was not until Rick S’s review was highlighted in a ROTD that I took notice. Which goes to show you how much I listen to my ex! Dim Sum King is in the same shopping center as Phở Nam, a Vietnamese soup noodle restaurant with entrees as low as $ 6. So with the cost of beef rising, you can’t eat any cheaper even at McDonalds! We get here at 6pm on a Friday night, and there is already a long line, primarily of Asians, at the counter. My wife is one of the few whites around. Good sign –if Asians eat at this Asian restaurant, then it’s got to be good! The young Chinese employees are smiling, friendly, and helpful, even if you don’t speak their native Cantonese! This is one of those point and pay places –you point out what food you want, and pay for it before sitting down –if you can find a seat, as there are only four tables, and despite the friendly employees, the customers may not take kindly to you, a stranger, trying to share a seat at their table! Most of the customers simply get take-out, as this is not the place for a date, given the hole in the wall ambiance. Besides they close at 8pm. If you take out a lady on a date here, it will be your last date with that lady, unless it is my ex-wife from Hong Kong! Sign says no restrooms for public use –I guess this means there are no restrooms fit for public use! Better ease up on consumption of beer, or use the restrooms at your workplace or home before coming here! I tell my wife to check out the food items, and then get one of the 4 tables. We get the $ 10 King feast –fried rice or noodle and three entrees. I get the fried rice, the Hong Kong style beef stew, the ginger fish fillets, and the yellow curry chicken. On my way to pay, the old fashioned credit card printer runs out of paper, and has to be manually loaded with a new roll of paper, causing the line to really build up. Low tech in high tech Silicon Valley! $ 8 minimum credit card purchase –they have to make money somehow — giving 3% to the credit card companies! The fried rice is perfect in texture and egg flavor, and takes up about two thirds of the paper plate, with half pint portions of the entrees. The yellow chicken curry is about half potatoes, which look just like the big bits of fresh chicken breast when covered with the yellow curry. It is not at all spicy, and is delicious. The fried ginger fish fillets doesn’t have a whole lot of flavor, and is on the salty side –too salty for my wife. No breading, as a filler, which is good, The Hong Kong style beef stew is on the tough side, with about half beef and half tendons, ligaments, gristle, turnips, and bone connecting tissue. I guess this is what you call real authentic Chinese food, and why my ex-wife from Hong Kong likes the place! My current wife disagrees, and turns her nose up on this one! One of the few times my wife and ex-wife disagree! We finish everything and are still hungry, and notice a new batch of steamed white pork buns, and get an order of 3 for $ 2.70. The pork buns are great, lots of pork –they don’t skimp on the meat here! I come back the next day and get another King feast order: fried noodles, two portions of Peking pork ribs and one portion of chicken with mushrooms for $ 10, plus a $ 3 order of 3 fried shrimp balls. My wife is not a pork fan, but likes the pork ribs. I cut off the bones, the fat, and the gristle, and end up tossing out about half the portion. Ribs are on the tough side, with a lot of backbone portion of the pork, instead of the softer rib area. Chicken with mushrooms are decent, freshly cooked with lots of chicken breast meat, and no bones, or fat. The fried shrimp balls are great –very fresh with minimum of filler, and you can clearly taste the shrimp. The fried shrimp balls are to die for, they are that good! Both figuratively and literally! And should my wife find me on the floor with a Dim Sum King fried shrimp ball induced heart attack, she can blame my ex!

1.5 years later, and Dim Sum King(DSK) is still amazing~ As far as dim sum goes, DSK is well priced and tasty every time I stop by. Since DSK attracts so many people, the food is always being replenished. My favorite combo is the King Feast, which comes with three sides. I usually get spare ribs, Chinese broccoli, pot stickers, and the standard fried rice that comes with every combo. Regarding the employees, everyone is always more than nice when I first step through the door. No matter the time of day, the employees at DSK always move fast and always pack every combo meal with a lot of food. If you want tasty food at a reasonable price, then stop by Dim Sum King and order your combo plate today! :)
