The employee was trying to explain to me how to texture a wall and had no idea what he was talking about. Bad advice but I’ll give him an A for effort.

I love, love, love Mclendon! Who has time to roam around the big box stores looking for crap? I much prefer the smaller, locally run hardware stores. Everyone at this location is so helpful. I think their prices are a little higher, but for quality and convenience I don’t mind paying a little more.

I’ve been going to McLendons for my hardware needs since I moved to the Sumner area 35 years ago. Glad to see they were smart enough to be competitive with the big box stores. They almost always have what I need and have a lot of little odd-ball parts that other stores just don’t want to mess with. Even better, they usually have knowledgeable people who know where the odd-ball parts are or can even recommend an alternative part. I like how they have some of the employees have stickers that they attach to parts that have their name and phone numbers on so you can contact them later for questions. That’s top shelf service. Only reason for the 4 star instead of five is that they seem to have trouble hiring enough of those talented employees. Every once in awhile I will get a dud who should be working at a box store and not McLendons. I understand it, it just going to happen when you grow your company to the size that they have become.

This USEDTO be my favorite hardware store but I won’t be shopping there any more. McLendons was my store of choice for over twenty years and I shopped there at least twice a week. That was in spite of prices that are 30% to 385% higher than Home Depot or Lowes. Today, for the first time, I tried to return a couple of electrical boxes that I didn’t need. They were in perfect condition, in their original packaging and purchased only a couple of days ago. I had misplaced my receipt and THEYWANTEDTOCHARGEME A 30% RESTOCKINGFEE!!! 30%!!! I will never shop at a store that treats its loyal customer’s that way. I’m done with McLendons. I have since learned that other McLendon’s have more customer friendly return policies. The Pearl St. store will take returns without a receipt, with NO restocking fee.

After today’s customer service experience I’ve learned to keep in mind that Home Depot is right up the hill in Bonney Lake. Slow, slower, slowest.

I have only been to the Sumner location and the staff is amazing! Been there probably a dozen or so times over the years and each time I received individualized, friendly help. Just today I went in and had to get new wire/plug for a lamp. The sales guy(forgot his name!) in electrical actually wired it up for me(I brought the lamp base in with me) and set me up. Not because I didn’t know how to do it but because he was just being helpful and wanted to make sure I was getting the right item. Asked about wood putty-instead of pointing me in the right direction, another sales associate walked me over, asked what kind of project I was doing, etc and actually picked out the correct product for me. I don’t know how their prices compare to larger stores but even if they are a bit higher, I prefer to give these guys my business. They are great!

Went in today for help and a woman employee in plumbing was rude to my husband. He never notices that stuff so it must have been bad. Get it together people

This review written from an LGBT perspective: I needed keys cut and some work gloves and a few other odds and ends and only had time to stop here. I prepared for stares and glares and sullen service, since it is in fact Sumner, and I am in fact an open transsexual. What I got was excellent service and sunny smiles. The woman cutting keys was great, the young man behind the counter even got the pronouns correct, and even the other customers were nice to me. I’m a fan, and will go out of my way to shop here.

What a hardware store should be. I try McClendon’s for almost everything before Lowe’s or Home Depot. It may be slightly pricier than the others, but I will happily pay for the better service. You can get plumbing components for a chicken waterer and not be looked at like you are crazy.

I think this store is the bee’s knees! It has always had everything I was looking for. Additionally, the people who work here are friendly and more than willing to help out. I am thankful this store is close by so I do not have to go to Home Depot or Lowe’s.

I really wish we had a McLendon’s closer to the house. I would shop here before going to a big box hardware store any day. The stores all have the same hardware, nuts and bolts feeling that I enjoy. They also carry those items that you would never find at the other places, such as random style light bulbs, specialty switches, etc. The staff are always helpful and seem to know what they are doing, which is a huge plus. My only complaint and reason I didn’t give five stars is, while visiting this location during this trip, had we been only a few minutes later, wouldn’t have known about a sale on the bulbs we were buying. It was at least an hour prior to closing and the department clerk was removing the sale tags because the sale was going off after they close. We ended up buying more than we came in there for because we discovered they were on sale.

If you can’t find it at Lowes you will find it here! Great store and staff at the sumner location. Great garden/nursery selection for a hardware store and great prices on plants.

I’d have to say the parking lot was the best feature of the place. Store was small and cluttered, and the price on the items I was looking for were 30% or so higher then Home Depot. Bonus star for the fish pond in the front of the store. Nice rock work and some pretty fish. That said, it isn’t enough to bring me back. One last thing, the hanging plants outside in the nursery are way low. If you’re taller then about 5′ 6″ remember to duck!

You know, I never realized McLendon Hardware was a chain until right… now. I always figured it as the local hardware store. Imagine my surprise when I got multiple Unilocal search hits. Growing up, McLendon’s was always our go-to hardware store. They have everything — fixtures, parts, bulbs, tools. etc. Plus, they have a good lumber yard as well. I’ve never had a bad experience here. The employees are friendly and knowledgeable. They have a great gardening section. In the summer time, we’d plant a garden at our house. Mints, cucumbers, tomatoes, squash, chili peppers, and egg plants(sometimes). We’d stock up on seeds and fertilizer from McLendon’s, and pick up a few other things they might have on hand. Great store, Easy to park. In and out in a jiffy. review 3÷23÷2008 I.M.Y.
