My wife and I would like to personally thank your staff for their honesty.
We we’re travelling through town and had lunch at your establishment.
This trip was something my wife had saved for and she wanted to pay for the lunch.
Being meticulous about money and receipts she paid the bill.
Unfortunately when she paid the bill she left an envelope with a $ 140.00 at the front counter.
The staff at your 5th street location secured the cash and put it in a safe location
until we could return the following day. Theft would have been so easy, but your
staff took the high road. It pays tribute to the principles you have written on your menus.
BTW — the food and service was great also.
If we are ever back in Summerville, SC, This is place we will always eat lunch.

Favorite breakfast in Summerville. The service is always friendly & attentive, they definitely have a flow of regulars & let you know they remember you. Everything we’ve had here is top notch. I judges place pretty heavily on the egg breakfast, and this place fares well indeed. Perfectly cooked whites with a runny yolk, crispy hash browns with fat grilled onions on top — can’t go wrong.
We also like the corned beef & chicken fried steak. A regular stop anytime we’re in the area.

We have breakfast there every Sat morning and everyone in our group has been very satisfied with both the service and the food. I can only verify about breakfast as I have not been there during any other time… but very satisfied. Prices for breakfast are very reasonable. It has the hometown atmosphere… mostly the same folks in there day after day.

I give it one star because of the price. My 7 year old daughters breakfast cost more than mine (and not by much). $ 4.59 for three tiny pancakes, $ 3.89 for two sausage patties and $ 1.39 for a sm milk. I had an omelette, some hash browns and one of those tiny pancakes for $ 9.39! I could have made homemade pancakes at home that were bigger and fluffier. Plus, who puts Velveeta cheese in an omelette ?.. Gross!
This was the first and will be the last time coming here… sorry…should have stayed with going to Perkins or IHop.

In all fairness we did visit on Mother’s Day, one of the busiest mornings for restaurants.
My wife and I both got breakfast sandwiches with home fries. the sandwiches themselves actually weren’t very bad, but the home fries we’re very lacking. They were little more than cut up boiled potatoes with no brown crispiness at all. I ordered mine with peppers and onions which were just about raw. But the worst offense is that there were several large rotten spots in the potatoes, unforgivable even for Mother’s Day.
Finally I made a stop to the men’s room before leaving, and it was just disgusting. It looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a week and was in terrible disrepair.

I am giving Alex’s a 5 star for several reasons. The most important thing to me is attitude of the servers. Second how fast you take my order, and how attentive you are. Third your ability to adapt to special requests concerning the food and willingness to make it. Fourth I consider a happy disposition a bonus. Alex’s is not expensive, and keeps that hometown vibe. Many locals meeting on a daily basis there. The morning crew seems to always have it together.

Always great made to order food and friendly staff! Counter space to «belly up» to, great atmosphere like you’re in an old time diner and clean, aesthetically pleasing dining area. Home town diner feel that won’t leave you disappointed!

Update (adding 1 star): this is now my wife’s favorite breakfast place. Good corned beef hash, eggs, omelets, pancakes. Apparently dinner isn’t their strength.
Formerly: Solid meh. Food was mostly OK. Pork chops were good, veggies good. Fries were from the freezer, burgers were made with breakfast sausage in the ground beef. One of my boys loved it, the other didn’t. Tea was great, but we had to get up to ask for a refill.

Unpretentious home cooking, friendly welcoming staff, I’ve never had a bad meal here. The fried green tomatoes are the real thing. Alex’s is a community staple and worth supporting especially based on their unselfish kindness at Thanksgiving.

I make frequent trips to Summerville and every time I stop by I make it a point to have a breakfast/​brunch AT LEAST once at Alex’s. The food is terrific, and my regular waitress, Angie, is always nice, respectful, and on top of her game. I wouldn’t say I go enough to a be a regular, but every trip there I have a great hometown, friendly, and filling experience.

Very nice very small town homey feel. It has become one of our favorite places to eat and they have good prices.
