When my father complained of foot pain, I recommended Dr. Vargas. He did my foot surgery and I had fairly good results. Dr. Vargas Sugarland Office is almost an hour away from my home. When we arrived, my father was asked to fill out about 8 pages of forms. Most doctors these days email them to you so you can do this from home. I was forced to read them out loud to my father to get them filled out quicker since he is in his seventies and didn’t have his reading glasses with him. Once in the exam room, a nurse came in to go over his reason for the visit. She then took him in for x-rays. Once back in the room, Dr. Vargas came in. He made my Dad repeat everything he has just said to the nurse. Why tell the nurse if the doctor isn’t going to pass along the info? Dr. Vargas felt around his foot for a minute and said he had Plantar Fasciitis. He said he would get some things to help and then he left the room. We saw him for all of 5 minutes. We NEVER saw the x-rays that they charged $ 150 for!!! The nurse brought in 4 items(2 ankle braces and 2 night splints). Now the pain was only in 1 foot but he wants to sell me medical supplies that cost over $ 650. Since I had gone through this with my foot, I knew that the mark up on these items is insane. I told them we would purchase them elsewhere. I then received an ugly look from the nurse. The ankle braces wouldn’t fit in my dad’s boots and he only wears boots so we never purchased them. I purchased the night splints on ebay(same brand) for $ 19 each shipped to my door. Dr. Vargas wanted over a hundred a piece for them. After we got home, my dad asked to see his x-rays. That’s when I realized we had never even seen them. I was already pretty annoyed that Dr. Vargas spend a whooping 5 minutes with us. And when the ankle braces he recommended didn’t work, he never returned to recommend an alternative solution. He also said he would write a script for my father just in case(as my father doesn’t really take over the counter medication). We never received that. It was just disappointment after disappointment especially since I had recommended Dr. Vargas. I called the office to complain about the $ 125 office visit fee and that Dr. Vargas spend less than 5 minutes with us. I also reminded them that we never saw the $ 150 X-rays. I asked for copies of the x-rays as we would not be wasting another hour trip to his office for a follow up visit. They had the nerve to charge me $ 5 for this service. I balked and they decided to waive it for me. When I went to pick them up I was expecting an apology from Dr. Vargas. I didn’t get one. I called and gave them 2 days notice for the x-rays. They still made me wait about 20 – 25 minutes for them. And there was just one patient in the waiting room. I fully expected them to be ready at the reception desk. I am dumbfounded that a doctors office runs this poorly. There really is no reason for it.
