I give this place 5 stars because my 3 yr old son that is a picky eater can finish all his meal. That has to mean something. Mac and cheese is his favorite and honestly mine too. Even better, kids meals are free on Saturdays.

Food was way over priced and the service was horrible. Not at the table but the serving staff behind the food. I loved this place as a kid and haven’t eater here in forever. Will not be coming back.

I’ve gone maybe four times in a five year period and at best the food was mediocre and the service was lousy… the cashier was rude and surly. I recently ordered food to go… I had to call twice to order because the first person left me on hold in excess of 4 minutes looking for a pen. Once I received my order the fruit salad was sour and I don’t know how they managed to under bake a pork chop and that said pork chop was like rubber. The entire experience was lousy… buyer beware!

This is the first time I’ve been to Luby’s. I arrived right when they opened this past Friday. I wasn’t sure what to get so I looked over the food. The meat entrees looked pretty good. The veggies were so so looking. The green beans looked like they were way over cooked. The two women serving people were wearing hats. However, I noticed while waiting for the restaurant to open one rather tall woman wasn’t wearing any type of hair protection. She was the one bringing out the foods from the kitchen. This was one of the Unilocaler’s complaints. I got in line and decided to try the fried fish that everyone talked about. With the $ 9 combo I received two sides and a roll. The rectangular fried fish was a cod like fish and wasn’t crisp like I was hoping. It wasn’t bad by any means, but I was hoping it would be more crispy. The fried okra was ok, but nothing to jump up and down about. The grilled veggies were pretty good since they were tender crisp. The roll was pretty good as well. A guy came by my table and asked if I needed anything. He was attentive but not a nuisance. The girl at the register was very nice. The two women serving food didn’t look like they were happy to even have a job. Overall, this Luby’s wasn’t as bad as I was expecting(based on Unilocal reviews). I debated on 3 or 4 stars. I gave them 4 stars because the employees who mattered the most were friendly and the food was ok. I will return to check out the other entrees.

There were 2 people on the service line that did NOT wear any hair net or cap. They ranbout of rolls and gave me a number to take to my table so they could bring me my roll. They never did bring the roll. Why are luby’s so poorly run? I like the food, but they just completely fail at customer service.

Clean, great table service, nice staff, great food. I’ve been to this location three times, whenever I’m in Sugarland, can’t get enough of that liver.

Poor service, food is meh. This was my first visit to lubys ever. I got there right after they opened. I asked for chicken fried steak and got distracted by my kid who decided to take off her shoes and try to splash in a puddle in the middle of the floor(which I didn’t see because there was no wet floor sign). While I told my kid to put shoes back on(took all of 30 seconds), the lady passed my plate to the sides station… I asked her if that meant that gravy is extra and she said«I asked you but you didn’t hear me»…uuhhhh ok. It’s not like I was holding up a line. There was no one behind me! After I got my gravy, the lady serving sides looked annoyed that I took a few moments to decide on sides(never been there… also getting kids meal, so that’s 4 sides). At the register I asked if drinks are included with meals and the lady said«they are right there». That doesn’t really answer my question, does it? The only polite person was a guy who came to my table to let me know he is there if I needed anything. He kind of mumbled it but at least he made eye contact and was polite. He also pointed out that jello comes with kids meals(which no one gave me or even told me about while I was going through the line) and got it for me. Chicken fried steak was ok, i guess. Mashed potatoes bland and tasteless. Greens were VERYVERY salty. Carrots&peas I got with kids meal tasted like just out of the can, just warmed up. Fried okra was decent. Tasted my kid’s fried fish and it was pretty good. Décor needs a little updating. Between the sad décor and impolite and depressed looking employees, it’s hard to enjoy your meal. Only reason I would go back is if I had coupons aka super cheap meal.

Disappointed with Christmas Day visit, although I appreciated that they were open. They had prime rib that a) was mostly fat and b) they had no horseradish sauce for, although A1 served in a pinch. I guess I should have known better than to order prime rib at a Luby’s. Here’s what really annoyed me, though. Server made a big deal of introducing herself, etc., but then could not be bothered to get me a drink refill, when I saw her doing so for others and schmoozing with her buddies at length. I sat with just my ice cubes for quite a while, interested to see if she’d notice. She didn’t, for a good 15 minutes. She finally offered to get me a refill — about the time hubby finished dessert! I don’t really like the style of place that makes you wait in line for your food and *then* a server appears — I like either full service or self service, not some combination.

Old favorite! Cafeteria style comfort food. I loved coming here as a teenager with my family, and it hasn’t changed much in the years I’ve been gone. I’ve always gotten the chicken fried steak, mac-n-cheese, green beans, and sweet tea. The chicken fried steak is good. Doesn’t blow your mind, but has good flavor and a good size. Their mac-n-cheese is really good, and their sweet tea is perfect. Good taste, and sweet, but not too sweet. For dessert I tried their cheesecake. It was the best part of my meal. Right taste, perfect texture, and the cherry sauce added even more flavor that almost had me in tears. A must try in my opinion. Staff has always been really friendly and attentive. I really like this place, and its consistently good, but minus the memories its a high average place to eat. Good place to try if you’re in the area.

Avoid! Avoid! Lubys breakfast is the worst thing you could get for $ 5. I thought hey it’s $ 5 I’m not expecting much but my god this food is flat out disgusting!

This review is only based on receiving no drama for redeeming my eclub anniversary coupon that permitted me to get a free desert. The coupon had another location on it, which I thought might be a problem, but it was accepted after a glance over. Even after the Sunday brunch rush, they still had plenty to choose from: cakes, pies, and cheesecakes(not many cupcakes). I choose a decadent chocolate cake that was moist the next day because it was too big and too rich to eat in one sitting! BTW: Join the eclub to get two free desert coupons: one for your eclub anniversary and one for your birthday!

I’ve been coming here since I was in middle school. Now I’m on the wrong side of 30 and when I come to visit SL, I almost always come to Luby’s for a meal. The place is definitely different than it used to be but we still enjoy coming here. Decent food, decent service. Nothing to rave about but there’s just something about their liver and onions I drool over. Don’t judge.

Food is good if you like luby style home cooking. Always a pleaser for the kids. The décor needs an upgrade as well as the staff. They are not friendly like most Lubys. Kind of got that lunch lady feel. I warm smile would help brighten everyone’s experience.

Great service, fast action, fresh foods. Too bad the taste is just not there. This is a busy Luby’s compared to all the other I’ve seen over the years. Lines still stacked way past the typical lunch time. But the service is great and fresh food comes out as fast as they can be consumed. And maybe this is where things went off the course. The lack of any competition made this luby’s sloppy on food quality. Everything is over salted, most items are generic with no spices other than a large charitable donation of Salt. But they are cashing in from the looks of the crowds. And it’s just so middle of the pack…

I’m not a native Texan so maybe I just don’t get it. The food actually all looked ok. The line servers were short and not friendly at all. Food was ok and it is a good place for a large group to meet up. Minus stars for staff chasing us out the door to inform us members of our group had not tipped them. The whole point is everyone pays for themselves at the register. Just because it took me the longest to get up and out of there with my two kids, now I’m responsible for tipping for 30 people? I’m sorry some people are jerks and we coughed up the extra dough for the others but… really? You cleared our plates, that’s it. Plenty of eat in restaurants do this and tipping is not required or expected. Lubys should pay their staff better so they arent so reliant on tips for little to no service.

Pretty standard american fare. I have been coming here since I was a kid, and it is a good place to get a decently balanced meal. I do wish they had a few more healthy items for I often wonder what they use to cook their veggies. I also wish they always had a fresh fruit option that wasn’t the fruit salad covered in syrup. I usually end up with a veggie plate, and tend to leave full. However, they have gotten kind of expensive in recent years considering what you are getting.

Me and my wife and kids eat here almost regularly, but this past Wednesday was the last time. My wife found a Caterpillar in her side of Greens. We were grossed out to say the least and the manager just offered a different side. I don’t know what to expect in that kind of a situation, but Luby’s didn’t seem to take it as seriously as we would expect. If anything, we were trying to be very discreet about it as not to let the whole dining room hear… wtf?

A Sugar Land Classic! Since I can remember, I have always enjoyed going to Luby’s for a meal. The fried fish has always been one of my favorites along with the fried okra. I always feel like I’m getting a hearty home-cooked meal when I come here. Definitely beats out a lot of the food you can get around town for under 10 bucks! Luby’s for life!

When I was a kid, the food was piping hot, the line was through the door, and the food was cheap. Unfortunately, the restaurant is a ghost town now with chicken sitting under a heat lamp for hours, mashed potatoes that are over salted, mac n cheese made hours ago, stale corn bread and portions getting significantly smaller. I paid $ 13 for a chicken fried chicken platter and a soda. As I sit down, I get bombarded by high school kids nearly begging for a tip inside a self serve cafeteria. They almost begged to bring me hot sauce, a to go box, or more condiments. I think Luby’s will go under soon if they expect nearly $ 15 for food made hours ago. Oh, how the mighty have fallen

aw man. i LOVE this place. been coming here since i could barely see over those metal rails you slide your tray down. Luby’s is comfort food to the max. liver ‘n onions, fried okra, sweet potatoes with marshmallows, sweet tea, cheesy broccoli casserole, i could go on and on. you can easily get a full, no, sTUFFED belly for under ten bucks. that and a generous helping of southern hospitality is what keeps me coming back year after year.
