MHX – Mecai

Mecai is awesome! She knows hair and is truly an expert when it comes to hair extensions. She introduced me to Hair Connections which are individual human hair attachments that connect directly to small sections of your hair. It looks amazing and it allows your hair to move naturally. It was definitely a worthy investment.

Mecai is amazing! I hadn’t gotten a cut in over a year, and had been looking for a hairstylist I could trust with my half black, half Korean hair. My sister recommended Mecai based on the awesome work she did on her hair. It was completely worth it. Mecai did an amazing job on my hair. I constantly received compliments on it for the next few days, and the cut looked great straight AND curly. I highly recommend her!

I’m so glad I found Mecai. My experience was great and I NEVER go to a hair stylist that wasn’t referred to me by someone I know personally. My regular hair dresser is far, and, while I love her, the drive has gotten difficult since I moved to the valley, and she just wasn’t available the day I needed her, so I decided to try someone new. I found Mecai purely by a Unilocal search of black hair stylists in the Sherman Oaks area. I’m so glad I did. Mecai got my hair so soft and shiny, I couldn’t believe it. I just had a wash and blow out, but I will be going back for a relaxer soon!

I have been going to Mecai for about 8 or 9 months now and let me tell you she is as good as it gets. When I moved to the valley I was in desperate need of a stylist. I am very cautious when it comes to finding a new stylist due to past bad experiences. I found Mecai via Unilocal and decided to give her a try. To be perfectly honest I was a little skeptical when I first sat in her chair, as there wasn’t a hot comb or stove in sight. I was under the impression that I had the type of hair that could only be managed with extreme heat. Well I was wrong. After washing and conditioning, she flawlessly blew my hair out and followed up with a plug in flat iron. Let me say I was impressed and remain impressed as I have continued to see her every 2 weeks since my first appointment. Not only is my hair healthy but her styles last nearly the entire 2 weeks between appointments. I constantly get compliments on my hair even after a week. I am very happy I found her!

I have been going to Mecai for years, she knows my hair inside and out. I recently received cooper highlights for Spring. Mecai did an excellent job! The color looks beautiful! I wear my hair natural and can’t wait to see how the color pops with my curls. I highly recommend Mecai! You won’t be disappointed.

Mecai is wonderful! She definitely knows what she is talking about and what she is doing. When I thought my hair was ruined and so damaged she made it come back to life. I am actually in shock. Way to go! Can’t wait for the next appt. :)

Visited this salon & was not impressed. Mecai left my hair flat, with NO body and was extremely overpriced. While her booth rent may be expensive, her services do not merit her high prices.
She also seemed a little uncomfortable at the shop. Perhaps because she was the only one of color that works there, but she didn’t seem to «fit in» with her co-​workers.
Nice lady, but not the best stylist. This is L.A. & there is too much competition to be mediocre.

Let me just say that as much as I depend on other reviewers comments, I haven’t been much into providing my opinion on my own experiences. I had an awesome stylist who I went to for many years until she moved away. I am really picky about who I let do my hair so I started doing my own hair. I have also had a few bad experiences with stylists who are unprofessional or just don’t care. This lasted about 5 years until I found Mecai. She not only is professional and a great stylist, but also is concerned about the health of your hair. After years of doing my own hair and causing a lot of damage, she took the time to assess the condition of my hair and hooked me up with an amazing haircut! I have received so many compliments that I’m sure Mecai will get a flood of phone calls requesting her services. :-) I am so excited that I have been able to find another stylist I can trust with my hair!

I am beyond happy with my hair!!! Mecai is the person you need and want in your hair! I wore extentions in my hair for over a year straight and thought my hair was damaged to no repair. Mecai took the time to look at my hair and tell me what the issues were and what was needed. Im happy that I had her hands in my hair. She bought it back to life. my hair is bouncy and soft and fab! She will be the ONLY person in my hair for here on out!

I moved to LA about 2 years ago and I was kind of freaking out because I was not sure how to go about finding a great hairstylist and actually trusting the reviews I saw. After 3 hairstylists I finally found Mecai! She is amazing! I went initially just to get a wash and style (that usually my test) and my hair came out looking amazing. I decided to go back to her to get my relaxer since from my first time visiting she was so knowledgeable about products and the state of my hair. Again it came out amazing. Now I recently went just yesterday and got a keratin and color and again amazing!
Anyone who is skeptical or looking for an amazing knowledgeable, friendly, and knows what she’s doing stylist… I would highly recommend going to see Mecai!

I have very wavy/​curly hair, and I’ve tried numerous salons around the area to try to tame it. The other salons did a good job but nothing close to Mecai. When I left her chair, my hair felt soft, healthy, and extremely light. The style also lasted for 4 days and it would have been longer if I didn’t work out. I HIGHLY recommend her and will be going back to maintain this level of health to my hair.

I moved to LA a couple of months ago and was still looking for a hairstylist.
Not only did she do a great job styling my hair, but she also told me what I needed to do to maintain healthy hair. I really hate when some hair stylist give me hair shame about the way I treat my locks, so I was super relieved to meet Mecai and have her tell me a lot of my hair problems aren’t my fault as much as my genes. We also made a plan about the next steps we would take for my hair.
I am so glad that I’ve finally found a LA hairstylist!

There are very few things that are more anxiety producing than having to find a new hair care professional. I was faced with this recently and after combing a couple of other web sites I turned to Unilocal which is where I discovered Mecai. Let me tell you, she is a true professional who is really on top of her game. From the moment I sat in her chair she was warm and personable; she asked lots of questions about my hair, its care in the past, and what I wanted to accomplish in the long term. I have relaxed hair and told her I often wish I could take my hair from black to a warm golden brown something I’ve always been told would be a bad idea; but she said it could be done and explained how we could successfully do it without damaging my hair. Joy!
Today I had a relaxer touch-​up which turned out beautifully. My hair feels soft and has a lot of body and shine. I had to run a couple of errands afterwards and could tell a few people were checking out my hair as I went here and there. Now that’s money well spent. Oh, Mecai is also an educator with Mizani and is very knowledgeable about the latest products and techniques, and she’s very open about sharing that information. I can’t begin to tell you how happy I am, not to mention relieved, that my search has ended. If you’re looking for a new stylist don’t hesitate to check her out. She’s very talented as you can see from the photos and the salon is lovely. You won’t regret it.

So I just moved to LA and was depressed about having to part ways with my lovely stylist in NYC (who i just found a little less than a year ago after many failed years of searching)! I was less than excited to start my hair stylist search, yet again, and in a new state and new climate. I have natural kinky-​curly hair that i usually wear in it’s natural state, so I don’t go to salons often. When I go to salons i usually go for a blowout/​press and a trim. That being said, I am VERY cautious about who I let touch my hair!
I went out on a limb after reading some Unilocal reviews and I decided to give Mecai a shot. Although I will say that her methods did not start out quite the way I am used to (she brushed my hair A LOT while it was still in it’s natural state.) SHE DID A REALLY NICE JOB! My hair came out sleek but still light and flowy. She made sure to use the flat iron in a way that still gave my hair volume but no frizz. The products she used were so light that my hair was blowing in the wind like a commercial when I stepped outside. When it came to the trim, she first told me how much she wanted to cut and ASKED me if that was ok, BEFORE, she started. I appreciated that since some people can be sensitive about length and are afraid of having too much cut off. When I left the salon I went to meet up with a friend who instantly complimented the layers in my hair and before even commenting on the straightness she said the cut looked great! Best of all it’s lasting pretty well. It’s been about 6 days and my hair is still perfectly straight and virtually no frizz.
If you are looking for someone to temporarily straighten your natural hair, you should definitely give her a try.

Once she was finished she DID actually reference (without prompting) all of the brushing she had done and said that she was trying to get familiar with my texture and see which methods would work best. So thumbs up to her for taking time to figure MY hair out instead of using a «one size fits all» method. AND double thumbs up to her for explaining her process to me (the client)!

Words cannot express how happy I am with the results from Mecai. I am so elated. I took a chance. I googled «African American Hair Salons Sherman Oaks» and I received a response from Unilocal.I went out on a limb and took what I thought was a chance. I wasn’t referred to Mecai, nor had I ever met her before. I looked at her pictures on Unilocal and liked what I saw. I called her and she did a brief consultation over the phone, then in person. I am so happy. I just cannot believe it. My hair looks beautiful. I didn’t think there was hope because my hair is thinning. I have hair loss and quite actually, depressed over the matter. Not anymore. I am more than satisfied with the results of my hair. My hair looks so beautiful. Mecai actually listened and heard my cry! She gave me exactly what I was looking for. (even though, I really didn’t know myself) But, she was patient, and listened and vowed that I would not get up out of her chair until I was looking fabulous. And, I do. Thank you Mecai. Mecai is a great stylist. I live about an hour away, but she is worth the drive. She has good knowledge on caring for different types of hair and she is able to do many styles. She has styled my hair using flexi-​rods or flat irons to achieve the look that I want and I always receive tons of compliments. I like that her shop is set up to just style one client at a time, so there is personalized attention without the typical shop drama and I get in and out within a reasonable amount of time. Mecai is fun, but she is also professional and I like that balance.

If you want beautiful hair then you should make an appt. with Mecai. She is really into hair care and I have seen a big difference in my hair in the yearsI have been her client. Thanks Mecai for taking care of my hair, your the best.
