I’ve been going to Lulu’s Beehive off and on for about 15 years. I’ve seen it change hands a bunch of times, but it’s always kept the same name until now. The new owners have changed it to the Jumpcut Café and redecorated with a film theme. Fine. Whatever. I don’t mind. Hell, they even have a poster for one of my favorite movies, «Breathless,» in the bathroom. What I really hate, though, is they took my favorite sandwich off the menu. Whenever I went to Lulu’s, I always got the(raw) vegetable sandwich on rosemary bread. Always. The only change was the previous owner started serving it with chips and salsa. But now, they have a roasted veggie sandwich, which I tried today and hated. It’s a greasy tasteless mess that fell apart from all the oil soaking into the bread. I also tried talking to one of the new owners about the changes(not in a demanding-customer way), and she seemed really annoyed to have someone talking to her and she made me wait forever before she took my order. Nice business practice there.

Not sure what happened with Peter C on April 14th. The Hot Bothered and Ready to Roll Review is a show put together by myself and two comediennes, whose goal is to entertain and lift people’s spirits at an affordable price, While we do invite some people in recovery to perform, that is not the main focus of the show, which is to provide entertainment mature(30+) audiences can enjoy, in an warm and friendly environment. We have friends who volunteer their time to help us with things like taking care of the door, publicity etc. If Peter feels he was overcharged, he should contact me at Facebook, and I will look into this. Lea does not oversee our entertainment nights, and so is not in a position to resolve this. Tapia Corel P. S. Our next show«A Mad Summer Night at Lulu’s» will be June 23rd @ 7:30/$ 10 cover. My acoustic-fusion trio, Continuum will be opening the night with some new tunes.

$ 10 for a mediocre turkey sandwich topped with brown lettuce and no sides, no thanks! This place is overpriced with food that isn’t that great. The meat was pretty much standard deli meat that can be purchased from Ralphs. The lettuce was old and looked like I was going to get food poisoning from it. If you’re going to charge $ 8 plus tax for a sandwich, make sure it has quality ingredients and perhaps comes with a side. I could have made this at home for $ 2!

This is just a nice, sweet, little coffee shop. A little expensive, but worth it for the fact that they are so freakin’ cool, don’t hassle you once you get your food or drink to move– you can just chill for half the day. I have been here more times than I can count and played here about a million times, too as a musician coming up. They are really good to young players. This is also a great place for important meetings. Executives are always impressed by what a hip hang it is, and you know you have to think about stuff like that. It’s got that not-uptight, good low-key, make everyone comfy, most people don’t know about it, kind of thing. I’ve had only great meetings here. Nailed a few deals here. Love it. Delicious food, great, friendly staff, and a cozy environment. They have all sorts of comedy and open-mic nights. You’ll often see famous people chilling here low-key. It’s a great hang. Cute dogs! Easy parking.

Huge menu. Eclectic in a good way. Family friendly most times, unless it’s really crowded and you must get the London Fog. The medium size has the best flavor ratio.

I am writing this review based on 3 key traits. 1. the yummy espresso drinks and availability of almond milk! Woo hoo 2.) thelocation(I heart the 818) and ease of finding convenient parking. 3.) the super friendly staff. This would undoubtedly be my go to coffee shop if I lived in the hood. I am looking forward to trying out something on their menu as well as stopping by for an open mic night. One day I will hopefully be a proud resident of the 818 and frequent this little gem.

So… do you take salmon in your oatmeal? No? Well, neither do I. It was very kind of the server to ask me, though. Otherwise, I might have had to learn this the hard way. I’ve been to Lulu’s beehive a few times now, and have come to realize some things. One, is that their food is pretty all right. I wouldn’t say it was excellent, but it’s enough to make me okay with going back. Two, I happen to enjoy their tea quite a lot. If I was on my way, say to work, I’d be glad to have a cup of their house tea for the car ride. Those two things, I figured out pretty much right away. I figured out a few new things on my last visit, though, and I’d feel remiss if I did not come here and update all of you fine people with my findings. Turns out, no, I don’t like salmon in my oatmeal. You think I would have known that already, but the truth is, the thought’s never really crossed my mind. It was never an issue, so I never realized that the idea of this combination of food was, in fact, repulsive to me. First off, I don’t eat fish, and secondly, well… if I did, I don’t imagine I’d like it in my oatmeal. One of the people in my party, however, wanted it in her eggs benedict. She got ham instead. Another in my party didn’t want fruit, yet there it was on his plate. Dan wanted some sweet Vanilla drink; Dan got coffee. We all wanted food, yet half of us were done eating before the rest of us even got our dishes. I only ordered oatmeal. I didn’t order some fancy medium rare steak with some fancy sauce reduction. Yet, the server managed to forget about it. After about an hour or so, only one person out of the 6 of us had gotten his order with absolutely nothing wrong with it. Every other minute, a new question was asked of us, and I couldn’t help but feel like it all could have been avoided had she, I don’t know, written our orders down. Now, I’m not one to judge. I’ve never seen her before, and from what I could gather, she seemed new. I could only imagine as the mistakes kept piling, she became more and more flustered, and less and less efficient. I felt a little bad for her, and none of us were rude about it. Still, I could look the other way after 2 or even three mistakes… but as I stared at her, literally at a loss for words, as she asked me if I wanted salmon in my oatmeal after the rest of my party had informed her she had completely forgotten my meal, I knew I would be here later. Writing this. Like I said, I think she was new, and there were a lot of us. I don’t blame her. I’ll still be back.

I don’t write reviews on Unilocal — hardly ever. But I’m happy to endorse LuLu’s. It’s good homemade food in the kitchen. Love the panninis. Some packaged goodies in front. Lots of choices of great coffees and teas and smoothies. Really well priced. I’ve made it a second office, perching on the leather couch with my laptop. I take meetings there too, because it’s comfortable and unassuming, without being loud. Great alternative to Starbucks and restaurants. And they have open mic nights and pros performing comedy, music, poetry. Lovely people working there. Robert

I have lived around the corner from Lulu’s for so long that I remember when it used to be called Emerson’s. Yet I only went there once, years ago… until recently. I have now been there three additional times in the past 40 days. Each time has been enjoyable, made all the more so because I can walk there. Two of the times I had lunch with friends. We each had different entrees and there were no complaints. The third time I tried a few of the desserts. Also good. Unlike one comment I read on here, I didn’t find the desserts to be overpriced at all. Quite the opposite. The drinks were tasty. The employees have, so far, been friendly and helpful. What I especially liked has been the laid back atmosphere. Two of the three times I was there it was crowded, maybe because it was around lunch time, yet it still had a relaxing vibe even though every table was filled. The third time I went around 4:30 and it was not crowded, which made being there all the more enjoyable. There are a couple of tables outside. I haven’t tried them yet but on a sunny, warm day like today, it sounds appealing. With all of the coffee places around these days, I like to patronize the independent ones when I can and this has now become one of those places for me.

The ultra-friendly little bee stung my wallet! Coffee is well priced, but the baked goods are way over. For example, each little cookie is 99 cents(should be 50 cents, albeit they were damn tasty, I could get a box of good cookies from Trader Joe’s for $ 3). The rest of the baked goods didn’t look very appealing, and were individually wrapped in plastic wrap… which to me – appears to be a day or two old. I want fresh DAMNIT! Sweet as pie Barista, and cute little and charming inside the place… and a very small patio on the street side with 3 – 4 tables. Come here when you are feeling down, because the bright yellow paint, mellow music at a level just loud enough to keep you from sleeping.

Most excellent. This friendly little coffee shop on Ventura offers unique and tasty drinks, treats, and fresh quality breakfast/lunch menu specialties. I’ve tried the London Fog latte, Armenian coffee, Eggs Benedict with ham, ham and cheese croissant, and the Green Tea iced Blended(MYFAV!). Great place to sit outside in the sun or relax inside and get some reading done. Had I known Studio City had Lulu’s Beehive to offer, I would have Unilocaled sooner. Definitely going back for the Green Tea Iced Blended– absolutely delicious… a spa in my mouth. Open Mic Fridays 8pm =)

I like Lulu’s. I took off a star because it is pricey, especially for a sandwich, and the boba texture is off. There is parking, a big menu, low-key, good customer service, great atmosphere, dog-friendly, and less commercialized vibe(a local spot). I suggest trying the avocado and cheese sandwich, eggs benedict, and salads(esp. with the honey dijon dressing).

I drive from Encino to Sherman Oaks so that I can hang out at this chill cool coffee shop. I also love that they have Almond milk. So if your allergic to milk like I am and dislike the taste of soy, this is a great place to get a latte. Lastly the food and people that work there a great. Come hang out, just don’t be one of those people that hang out for more two hour. Go to StarBucks for that.

Ahoy amigos! I don’t give coffee shops stellar reviews unless they blow me away. That being said, my three stars for Lulu’s surely belie it’s cozy atmosphere, yummy salads, and really great coffee. Pros: –Adorable –Great location right on Ventura with ample parking –Dog friendly policy with water bowls for your pup –Games to play, art, things to read –Outside seating –Lots of outlets –Great food Cons: –Small –Pricey –Seriously something wrong with that bathroom door… –Barista, though sweet can be a little spacey Worth checking out! Happy munching everyone!

Super low key and cute café… A recent local spot where I meet with fellow classmates. Tons of outlets! =) Opposite from the bustling Starbucks’ and Coffee Beans. I can’t hear myself think in places like that plus my peripheral vision makes it hard to concentrate when so many bodies are walking around you. Also, they have an outstanding number of items on their menu starting from drinks to meals to pastries. Their soups are to DIEFOR! Apparently, the owner of the café makes the soup daily? I will vouch for all of the soups… please try! Friendly staff and free parking behind the store.

I attended Lulu’s grand re-opening tonight and had a great experience. They have an awesome selection of teas(try the jasmine flower with the little pod that actually turns into a flower in your cup!) and a good selection of coffee drinks. Their avocado and cheese sandwich was to die for! As a vegetarian, I usually feel cheated in the sandwich arena, but the seasoning on this seemingly simple sandwich was the bomb! It has been totally redecorated and feels modern, yet cozy. The proprietors are super friendly and accommodating. There’s a little parking lot in back shared by a couple businesses, and metered street parking. The wifi is still in full-effect and there are a couple sofas to relax on, in addition to the café tables and chairs. I also hear they’ll probably start showing art from the San Fernando Valley Art Club again in the future. My only complaint is that I wish I lived closer. We don’t have a coffee place like this in my ‘hood and I wish we did.

By day it’s a café with cakes, wraps, coffee and herbal teas. Wifi is free if you buy something. Seats are semi-comfy, outside tables are nice & wobbly with a view of Ventura(vrooooooom!), and the vibe is all about you, your laptop/book/ipod, something tasty and um, that’s it. It beats StarSucks and Coffee Mean.

I liked this place a lot. Really simple, but there’s just a… je né sais quoi about it. I stopped by last night with my boyfriend to get a coffee since i was falling asleep and it wasn’t even 10 yet, haha. It took kind of a while to get service because the girl was washing dishes in the back and couldn’t hear that we were waiting to order. But finally she came out and was really nice. I just got a mocha w/soy and an extra shot and my boyfriend got a plain old coffee. Mine was alright, nothing special. I’m not convinced that she put in the extra shot, but whatever. Dylan liked his coffee and said it wasn’t burnt like 99% of other coffee places’ coffee usually is. It was open mic night last night which was a nice little surprise when we walked in. And the guy performing was actually impressively good. We just sat back back, relaxed, sipped on our coffee’s and enjoyed some nice music. the only thing i would really suggest for them would be to put in some couches and comfy chairs. But other than that, i reallllly liked the vibe of this place. Very San Francisco-esque and low key. I loved it. I’ll be back.

Oh if this retail space could talk, what stories it would tell… My ex-best friend used to work at this place when it was Emerson’s back in the 90’s. She was putting herself through school and pretty much working full time here, so as you can probably imagine, the amount of hang time I had here was rich and the people that passed through here were, well, yeah, lots of stories. Emerson’s came and went and I think a few other places called this home for a spell, but for the past many, Lulu’s Beehive has set up hive in this spot and it seems to be working out fairly well for them. We popped in today after spending most of the afternoon at the Great Greek up the street. Not ready to call it quits on the work agenda quite yet, we decided to order some beverages. I went with the standard iced tea, which was boldly described as a «Passion» Iced Tea. Upon first sip, the term passion came into debate. For me, not so much, but if your idea of «passion» is a date at J Crew, then maybe. Overall though, it was tasty enough and gave me my much needed second wind. My counterpart ordered an Italian soda and no complaints were heard so I assume it was a good time for her taste buds as well. All in all, it’s a decent spot to laptop it up during an afternoon, but I can’t say I would rush back. The girl working here was nice enough, but the people watching was minimal, the temp was a bit warm and with the exception of the cool red and black checkered table we sat at, I can’t really remember any other striking design elements that would make me look up from my laptop and say ahhhh with creative glee.

Props for free wifi, independent vibe, and the heavily tatted counterwoman who looked like she belonged in SF. I think $ 4 was a bit much to pay for my small ice tea though, don’t you?
