hugo’s vegan reuben on gluten free bread is scrumptious! that bread did not taste gluten free at all, and hurray for sufficient sauerkraut! tasty sauce too.

Horrible. Terrible meal. Couldn’t eat the greens casserole. Smelled like dog food. Still was charged. Will never ever go back there again.

Had brunch today at Hugo’s on father’s day. Disastrous brunch. Eggs Benedict were cold and yolks hard, potatoes under cooked and side of sausage had no flavor and dried out. To top it off, a bus boy tried to set up an additional table with ours while we were still eating. Then the manager came over and tried to explain. I’ve never seen such bad food and terrible management. Bussing tables and setting up while you eat, Wow, will never return their.

I used to LOVE this place with all the different food options! I’ve lived in the area for 10 years and used to have every special occasion dinner here. It was so great to know that everyone I brought would be able to find something yummy to eat. Plus, loved the celeb sightings. My husband and I loved the sandwiches so much we even started calling in our order to pick up, which we did many, many times. Until a few months ago. We called, put in our order, gave them our cell number and went in 20 minutes later to pick up our sandwiches. Instead of my husband coming back to the car with food, he came back to say that they told him they canceled our order. What?! For no reason. But we could wait 20 minutes and reorder. They apologized, but that’s all we got. I expected at least a discount of some sort, but instead we got nothing. So we took our patronage elsewhere. I decided to give Hugo’s, my favorite place, a second chance and had a friend visiting from out of town. So we went for dinner. It was just the two of us. We put in our orders and the food we got was not what we ordered. Definitely not our nice server’s fault, as he had written exactly what we wanted. He was very apologetic, which was fine. We waited and got our correct orders no problem. It was just another huge disappointment. I am just so very disappointed in Hugo’s of Studio City. I want to go back so badly, if nothing else but because I actually do enjoy the food. But I’m really unsure whether I will or not. And I definitely have not been recommending it anymore like I used to. Just sad.

I had the special Plato Del Alma that was a grilled chicken breast(could have been tofu or a veggie patty) served with a grilled ½ romaine lettuce drizzled with honey chipotle, the inside of a tamale, a tomato/avocado salad stuffed into a fried portobello mushroom cap and fried platanos. The chicken breast was very flat and grilled well, but unexciting. The highlights were the grilled romaine — fantastic! Why have I never thought of this? — and the tamale which was FANTASTIC! — and the salad stuffed mushroom. I’ve never had a fried portobello mushroom before. I don’t usually eat fried things, but the combination of the crisp exterior and the soft interior was divine. As fried platanos, I was expecting tostones or patacones(depending on your country of origon) made from green platanos, but what I got was platanos maduros — sweet yellow platanos — which I do not like. The entrée, which cost $ 16 and well worth it. The portion was plentiful, the variety of tastes and flavors excellent and the freshness evident. There is a small crowded parking lot. Inside there is not much of an atmosphere, but who cares when the food is this good.

So I have dined here about 3 times and I can completely understand the appeal for many people. There are lots of vegan and vegetarian options, as well as options for people with dietary restrictions or allergies. Also, in general, many of their menu items tend to be on the healthy side. With that said, it is nothing spectacular. The three times I have eaten there, I have made my own bowl twice and gotten a salad once. The make your own bowl option is a nice way to try a little of this and that, buuutttt it is unnecessarily expensive for what you get, quality and portion size. Ugh, I hate to even put it this way, but it’s just kinda mediocre food. Nothing has a wow factor here! The key to a restaurant that claims to serve healthy food is that you can’t sacrifice flavor along the way!!! Most people who want to eat healthy don’t want to remember they are eating healthy! I know you can’t make my broccoli taste like mac n cheese, but gimme something here? All in all, it’s not a place I would seek out, but it’s convenient if you’re in the area. The only cool perk for this east coast transplant is that Jamie Lee Curtis ate at the table next to us haha.

My husband brought me here for breakfast and it was delicious! I am vegan my husband is not so this place was easy to order at. we both really liked the french toast, the texture of the potatoes was really good. Slightly over seasoned though. The restaurant looked very clean and the parking lot had plenty of spots available. I will be coming back!

I ate here a few weeks ago with two of my best friends and we really enjoyed everything we ordered! They are gluten free and try to be dairy free, so it’s always nice to find a place with gluten free and vegan options! We all easily found menu items. The cinnamon French toast was SO good! The only thing I wouldn’t order again is a vanilla latte– I didn’t enjoy mine from here, but will still happily come back and order other things. The employees were friendly and the food was good.

The servers are great and the food is simple and healthy. Don’t expect fancy food, you’ll be disappointed if you do. My favorite dishes are the: 1. Very green casserole(vegan version) 2. Tikka masala plate(with veggie patties, it’s huge– make sure you’re hungry) 3. Sticky buns(plural as in two, vegan, gluten free, churro-like!) 4. Brownie torte(vegan, gluten free, very rich– you’ve been warned) My least favorite dishes are: 1. Green tamales(dense and bland) 2. Power of greens salad(I know it has a star by it, but it is too crunchy and green) What I like about Hugo’s is that the menu caters to almost everyone. All the menu items are marked as vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and/or containing nuts. Many items you can ask for modified and they accommodate requests graciously.

Ouch. I really didn’t enjoy this place when I went for the first time today. The service was fine but my food was really bland. I understand that this restaurant is a healthy version of others, but in Los Angeles I’ve had the most tasty healthy foods and this wasn’t even in the ballpark. I got the green corn tamales with rice and beans and every single item was the most bland version I’ve had in a long time. Now to the worst part — we were seated next to the«fountain» outside, and it smelled terrible. By the time we figured out what was causing the smell, the other seats were filled up so we just dealt with it. It smelled like sewage to be honest. This was absolutely unacceptable and I’m curious to hear if anyone besides us experienced this. Overall, my most disappointing LA restaurant experience in a long time.

Here’s the deal. We’ve lived up the street from Hugo’s for almost three years, and for whatever reason it’s never been at the top of our let’s-eat-out list. But things have changed! Perfectly understated but dozens of diverse menu options(literally several thousand options if you include the permutations of make-your-own-pasta and sandwiches), with many vegan/vegetarian/just flat out healthy and wholesome eating options. This meal will be the first of many! My veggie burger was an exceptionally generous, savory, from-scratch patty — very refreshing to have something other than a re-heated Gardenburger pulled out of the fridge. And my husband’s pasta was also top-notch in terms of the freshness of the noodles — very hearty and substantial; not sure what«real» Italian pasta is like in terms of taste and texture, but if I had to guess, it’d be just like Hugo’s. THEBEST creamy four-cheese mac ‘n’ cheese ever as well; even the appetizer-sized portion is enough for a meal. Glass of wine and cup of tea were also A+. Unusually large hot loose leaf tea selection; good job guys. One star docked for ambiance — I think it could’ve used some background music at least — and the price is not exactly easy on the wallet, although it is much more bearable when you’re treated with top-notch quality and tastiness! On a side note — man sitting across from us profusely and profanely vented non-stop to his daughter(significant other?) about an intolerable co-worker from the moment he sat down. Not pleasant to listen to. Good vibes people, good vibes please.

Power of Greens Salad. My new favorite. Green, green, green. Healthy and hearty. With the sherry vinaigrette dressing on the side. I had to take half of it home and it was just as good the next day. I am so glad my friend suggested Hugo’s for lunch. I hadn’t been in awhile but I understand why it’s so popular. The menu descriptions are understated — without all of the crazy adjectives that most restaurants use. The food is a million times better than it sounds. Can’t wait to go back.

It was a very long time since I’ve been here and I’m so glad I came back. Hugo’s has been around for quite some time. I remember seeing them walking to and from middle school. I’d like to be ambitious and say that they were doing their vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free menu before it was a «thing». I had breakfast here this past weekend and since everything on the menu was appealing, I had to get two(I shared with a friend). We ordered the chocolate chip pancakes, cinnamon swirl french toast, a side of roasted potatoes and the ginger apple cider. Everything ordered fit the diet specifications mentioned above(vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free) so this is perfect for anyone who requires these needs. The chocolate chip pancakes were extremely chocolatey and even had a chocolate syrup on the side, yet still not too sweet. The cinnamon french toast had a nice crunchy crust with a soft cooked center. They were served with a small side of oranges and raisins. Oh, and vegan butter! I’ve never had that before and it was really good. Tasted like regular butter, so I may have added a little extra. I loved the ginger apple cider. So full of spice, but not overbearingly so, it poured out like a liquified apple sauce. Probably the best cider I’ve had thus far. Keep doing your thing Hugo’s!

Vegan, vegetarian, GF and other options here. Everything is super fresh and local. They’re into conscious cooking that is delicious. The breakfast is served all day. Love their eggs benny and their pasta victor(it’s spicy!). The wine list is pretty small but they are good quality. Staff is all very nice and attentive. Valet parking in lot for most days/evenings.

The pasta here is leGIT! Trust me, I’m a pasta snob from Boston, and when it comes to comfort class dining in LA(the non-elitist Italian joint), I honestly find his city lacking. Until now. I had the create-your-own option, and mixed the house-made spaghetti with Parmesan garlic sauce, with Gorgonzola, mushrooms, spinach, and turkey sausage. Praise the Laawd I’m an LA pasta convert! Unbelievably spongy goodness that can only be found in fresh made pasta. I’ll swear by it. I know it’s unfair to just talk about the pasta in an overall rating, but let me just say that the pasta is THAT good. But the menu also includes gluten-free options, began dishes, and all with the same neighborhood hospitality you’d expect to find in rural middle America. Not what you’d expect to find in LA. Great crowd, comfortable ambiance, good service, and there’s parking! Love it and will come back many, many more times!

I’m giving Hugo’s an «A-OK» vs. a «Meh. I’ve experienced better» rating because all of the employees(servers, waitstaff, hostesses) were really nice, friendly, and were very good at helping take care of the kids needs. While yes, the food was fresh and delivered promptly by the friendly staff, the issue I have is that the pricing was really high for what we ordered for 2 adults and 2 kids. I get that restaurant business is rough but I can’t recommend going there often because while the food was okay and the service was great I don’t think overall the experience at Hugo’s is a good value.

The food ranges from average to good for me, still haven’t had anything that I LOVED, however I appreciate any restaurant that offers gluten free and vegan food and I am grateful for Hugo’s for that. This review would have been 4⁄5 if it had not been for our last waitress, Rebecca, and her TERRIBLE service. First of all, instead of asking me to repeat myself when she couldn’t hear me, she made faces at me as if I was speaking weirdly. I wasn’t. Secondly, after we ordered several courses, I asked for a soy latte. I got it and it was disgusting, tasted like burnt coffee. Rebecca brings over our check without asking, and I say«The coffee was really bad…» and she says«Ooh, I’m sorry!» and walks away. Excuse me? Bye Rebecca.

Dear Hugo’s, This is a love letter to you. Finding you has made me a happier, better person. Your cauliflower pakora gets me through dark days and your gluten free sticky buns comfort me through rainy nights. Your power of green salad and your go green frittata make me feel very ~LA~ and also are delicious as hell. The gluten free brownie sundae haunts my dreams(in a good way) and your vegan gluten free Mac and cheese has made my restricted diet easier to deal with. I love you. Will you move into my kitchen and just be with me forever? Sincerely, Me(you know– the one who always orders the veggie burger with fried plantains on top. xoxo) PS. Not to make you feel less special, but this review can be applied to all locations I have been to(Studio City, Weho, and Agoura Hills).

I have finally found something yummy enough to go back for(the vegan mac & cheese), but unfortunately the customer service will probably keep me away… If you are unlucky enough to get seated with Nicole, I’d highly recommend either changing seats or requesting a different server just to save yourself the ‘experience.‘ We were actually being served by a new server in training who made a simple mistake(ordered us entrée sizes though I CLEARLY-as in even pointed to it on the menu-ordered the appetizer size), but when the full size entrees(my friend order«the same thing» as me) arrived and I inquired about why this looked different from the appetizer I ordered a few days before, he was quick to tell us that it was actually the entrée size, but not to worry about it, enjoy our food, and that he would take care of it. Great. Perfect response to an innocent little mix up(and he was training, remember?). Well, here’s where things went south. I was literally about to take my first bite when Nicole comes over with our original server to either take our food away or tell us she’s going to have to charge us for the entrée sizes. We did not have time for them to remake the food, nor did I care about the few extra dollars(despite the fact that I knew I wouldn’t be finishing it anyway since the portion was so big), but her attitude(and indignity when we asked her who she was/if she was a manager) was unbelievable. We then waited for a manager to arrive(while my food got cold), who again told us not to worry about it, enjoy our food, etc. Ummm, ya think? While I ate(a little because I had kinda lost my appetite from Nicole’s rudeness), decided to do a little Unilocal investigating. It turns out that there had already been another negative review about the customer service posted a few hours earlier. Wonder if they were graced with Nicole’s presence too… Here’s the kicker though. I had been there a few days prior(ordered the same thing) and both times noticed that there were many more male servers than female. In fact, Nicole was the only one I saw there at all yesterday during the entire duration of our visit. In looking at a couple of the lengthier negative reviews, I noticed that BOTH referenced ‘her’ or ‘she.’ Coincidence? Maybe. Or maybe not. I do know that if I ever do decide to give this place another shot, I will definitely have a male server, and it kills me to be sexist like that, but clearly there seems to be an issue. Or maybe it’s just Nicole… I also apprised management of this observation, and suggested that maybe she’s not the best one to be providing training for a new employee… But don’t worry, we still tipped our original server well despite the chaos(and I made sure it was going to go him, not her!).

Decent. The Cuban sandwich was really good. But it’s really not a true Cuban sandwich. It’s a Hollywood Cuban sandwich that wants to cater to the foodies of the Hollywood culture. But like I said, it’s tasty but don’t expect a true Cuban. One thing they do cater too are the hippie and hipster crowd who thinks they are allergic to everything from meat, milk, vegans, non-GMO foods, and corporation world domination. But all joking aside. Is this place legit? Yeah it is. Is it good for breakfast, absolutely. Their coffee is great. Lots of choices and the waitresses are awesome. You’ll probably be back too after your first time… So make it a Saturday or Sunday and come here. You will probably see a few celebrities too… And a lot of hipsters with their urban sombreros.

I had one of the best breakfasts ever here last week. Simple and heathy. It was their version of granola and it rocked!!! Lot fat yogurt with bananas and berries and this crunch mix filled with nuts, grains and other goodies. I could have bought bags of it to take home. Then I ordered a vegan flatbread that truly was unreal. A bit of butter and it became toast like I’ve never had. Again, crispy and perfectly cooked. My friend had a spinach frittata that looked very good as well. And the pancakes that walked by were amazing! Good parking at a private lot and the service was quick, friendly and on point. I dream about this breakfast!

I have had this place on my list for years– from the time that eating out and being gluten free was very difficult and options were few and far between. So much so, I had a large binder I traveled with when we took road trips and had printed menus to places along the way that I could eat at. Finally, this month I dinned at Hugo’s and it was as excellent as I had been daydreaming all this time! It’s like the Denny’s for the Food-Sensitive! This place is all about accommodating food allergies. I imagine there kind is set up the opposite of most, such that 90% off the kitchen is gluten free/vegan with a little area for those few pesky wheat products. The menu easily dictates of the item naturally comes gluten free or vegan or if it can/needs to be requested. It took me forever to make a decision but in the end I landed on the chiptole scramble,(chicken, and peppers, and cheese, and this honey chiptole sauce that was safe for me to have), and a sticky bun and my husband got the French toast. You’re like ok, a scramble, you can make that home, but let me tell you, this was spectacular. The sauce was delicious, and the sour cream went great with the eggs and my crispy side of bacon. I opted for a side of fruit and no tortillas or rice. That seriously would have been too much food. The sticky bun was like a cross between a churro and a donut. A little firm and crisp on the edges but soft and doughy on the inside. Seriously amazing. Given that I haven’t been eating a lot of sugar or starches as of late, I certainly noticed a performance difference at the gym the next day, sweating it all out, but it was so worth it. The french toast was 3 incredibly thick slices of freshly made cinnamon bread, with a great cinnamon swirl to it, and with a little added butter and maple syrup– wow! And they have all your butter options covered, so whether you do dairy, or gluten free, or soy free, or vegan– they have a butter for you. HA! We sat near another(older) couple that was also having an amazing experience, so much so that we ended up talking to one another about the food. She spoke to my husband about the incredible fluff of her vegan pancakes, and her husband leaned over to me and said the sweetest thing ever–«I can’t hear her, but she must be talking about food because she’s smiling so much.» I can’t wait to pass back by and have lunch or dinner at this place. I don’t recall if they have grilled cheese on the menu, but I can only imagine that a sandwich or burger from this place would be great. With my breakfast I of course needed a beverage, and I was very impressed by the abnormally large selection of teas for such a restaurant. Our waitress told us the owner was very much into tea, and they currently had a blend of green and black tea available called four monkeys. It’s got a hint of chestnut, apple, and vanilla, and is mellow and is naturally semi– sweet. I tend to put too much sugar in my tea, but have improved and changed my tastebuds and this was such a great blend that I only needed 1 sugar bag for my cup.

Come here for fresh and tasty food. I’m a meat eater, but I do enjoy some of their veggie and vegan dishes. The iced tea is stronger than coffee. After 2 visits, the service is the worst part about this place. The hosts are always nice, but the servers need to take classes on table awareness. It’s hard to find the servers once food has been delivered. I will come back here again. The green drink is tasty.

MANAGEMENTPLEASETAKENOTE: I’ve been coming to Hugo’s for years for their amazing food & suggested it yesterday to two of my girlfriends for breakfast. We get seated &5 minutes pass by then another 5 minutes with zero sign of our waiter/waitress. I then ask a worker walking by for our server and instead of «sure thing» or «let me get you started» or something of that nature, we get in reply«oh shes busy with 3 tables right now she’ll be right there.» That was strike #1. Our waitress FINALLY decides to arrive, looking a frazzled mess, and takes our order. Strike #2: My friend asks if a particular menu item had nuts since she’s allergic, the waitress says she’ll go to the kitchen and check… only for her to be MIA for 25 solid minutes. Strike #3: While we are all waiting for our food, we notice two parties around us who were seated at least 10 minutes after us got their food before us. Some random server who was not our waitress then comes to our table to let us know 25PLUSMINUTESLATER that the menu item my friend selected does include nuts, but never offers her a menu or anything else she’d like. Strike #4: At this point, we’re all irritated at the lack of efficiency so I ask our waitress where our food is. She had the nerve to say«I don’t know. I haven’t been to the kitchen in 10 minutes.» Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t part of the job description as a server to go back in the kitchen and check if your tables food is ready??? With her lame ass excuse, I was fed up and asked for the manager. The waitress has the nerve to tell us «she’s been busy serving other tables» and that’s why our food isn’t ready and because«pancakes take longer to make.»(Really?) Never once did she say, «I’m so sorry let me get your food now,» Nope. Just one lame excuse/lie after another. I mean, honestly guys, working 4 tables isn’t rocket science unless you’re a mentally inept moron, right??? I then dismiss her and her irrelevant feedback since its now been 45 minutes with NOFOOD and the manager approaches our table. Bless her heart, she tried to be nice, but she offered us nothing except MORE excuses. Never did I hear«your food is coming right out,» «let us comp you for this inconvenience» or «hey here’s a bottle of champagne on us.» Nope, nothing except«pancakes do take longer.» Unless I’m Boo-Boo The Fool, I’m pretty sure the cook is taking a batch of the pancake batter, putting it on a pan and flipping it over which should take all of 5 minutes. Here’s strike #5 and why I will NEVER step foot in this location again: As we are discussing our extreme dissatisfaction with the manager, the waitress comes back to our table, obviously upset, saying«it’s a Holiday(MLK Day) I’ve been busy, I’m working as hard as I can.» LADYKNOCKITOFF. Since it’s clear I AMBLACK, I’m pretty sure I’m aware it’s MLK Day. And how disrespectful to treat people of color in such a shameful way ON A HOLIDAYLIKEMLKDAY. Tell me right now if that’s not some deep rooted racism??? Because if I was Becky with blonde hair and blue eyes, I HIGHLY doubt that would have been my experience. But hey, what do I know. (Continuing Strike #5): This middle aged waitress continues to speak recklessly to myself and my two friends INFRONTOFTHEMANAGER while the manager does not do 1 damn thing except say«sorry» to the point where I had to tell this middle aged 40SOMETHING woman that she was«out of line.» She then storms off. A. How the hell is that professional? B. Why are you GROWNAF and I’m telling you you’re out of line? C. Why is the manager STILLNOTHANDLINGTHESITUATION? So, after all of that ratchet behavior, we were so appalled we told the manager(nicely) that their food can get shoved up someone’s anus and we will not be paying for anything and we left. As a woman of color, I am legitimately at a loss for words for such discrimination especially on MLK Day. For the waitress to bring that up herself and STILLNOTDOBETTER is quite frankly intolerable and such treatment is why Civil Rights leaders such as MLK did the things they did. I will NEVER be back to this location and this place honestly deserves 0 stars. I hope the owner of the facility looks forward to my formal complaint as well. * Middle finger Emoji*

WORSTCUSTOMERSERVICEEXPERIENCEEVER. Not even kidding. Statement of the hour: «I don’t know.» 11:10am My girlfriends and I are seated at our table. 11:20ish Our server has yet to greet us, take our orders, or place water on the table. Hmm. That’s odd. No biggie. One of my friends asks another server nearby if he can send our waitress our way. His response: «Yeah she’s got like 3 tables going on, she’s a little busy» Ummm idgaf what she’s got going on. Matter of fact, why are you giving me an excuse and not GRABBINGMYSERVER like I asked you to? Or even saying, «She’s slammed but maybe I can help you?» Nope. Just gave us an excuse. 11:25ish Our server comes to our table, frazzled, and takes our order. My other friend specifically asked if their almond pancakes are made with any other nuts. She says she’ll go ask the kitchen and let us know. Cool. 11:40ish Some random dude comes over to us and lets us know there are in fact cashews in the pancake dish. That’s it. He offers us no menu, he doesn’t ask if she wants anything else, nothing. Just drops that bit of information and proceeds to leave. Weird. Mind you, NOFOODHASHITOURTABLEATANYPOINT. We ask our server, «Is our food coming up?» Her response: «I don’t know.» My friends and I look at each other puzzled. She continues, «I’m just really busy and I haven’t even been to the kitchen in like 10 minutes.» LADY. We’ve been sitting here since 11:10 and haven’t had as much of a side of toast. She walks away saying she’ll go look into the matter. 11:50ish Still no food. Waitress comes back, «Oh, I added your order to the top of the list.» Ok, no. My two friends and the waitress go on to have a rather awkward exchange on why we haven’t been served yet. Our server even had the audacity to mention that today is a national holiday and thus, the place is quite busy. UMM2⁄3OFUSSITTINGHEREAREBLACKWOMEN. I THINKWEAREQUITEAWARETHATTODAY’S MLKDAY! We immediately request to speak with the manager. 11:55 STILLNOFOOD! Manager comes in and attempts to diffuse the situation. Honestly, she does nothing but piss us off more. Don’t get me wrong, she was a pleasant woman but she did not possess the restaurant management skills that I’m accustomed to. Out waitress walks up in the midst of this and begins to huff and puff about how hard she’s working and blah blah blah. It’s been nearly an hour and MYFOODISSTILLNOWHEREINSIGHT. GIVEME A BREAK. Our waitress then storms off mid sentence and proceeds to have a sort of mental breakdown. It was honestly the strangest experience I’ve had in a very long time. 12noon After all that, I stand up and say, «We’re leaving and not paying for our drinks either. THISENTIRETIME, OURFOODWASNEVERBROUGHTOUT! I can not begin to tell you how disappointed I was with my time here at Hugo’s. I’ve been to this venue, as well their WeHo location, on several occasions but my latest trip was HORRENDOUS! I can not fathom how that manager allowed her server to speak to us that way without firing her on the spot. Mind you, not once did my friends or myself raise our voice, use profanity, or disrespect anyone. We simply wanted to know where our food was. Making excuses for piss poor behavior is unacceptable. The manager should have instantly recognized our anger/confusion and comped our entire bill on the spot. I would if I were a decent manager of a successful business! You let three customers legit just walk out?! #HOWSWAY??? NEVEREVER going here again.

I cannot say one bad thing about Hugo’s. I used to live very close by & would eat there almost once a week. They make the best turkey burger I’ve ever had. The menu is great on its own, but they are always accommodating to any substitutions you may want whether it be due to food allergies or just preference. Anyone can eat here & will love it. They have different meats, but also offer lots of vegetarian/vegan options, as well as gluten free & nut allergies. I highly recommend joining their online mailing list. Once a month they will email you their new monthly specials. Some of their seasonal dishes are so good & get such a strong response, that they put them on the menu as permanent dishes. If you’re planning on weekend brunch, you will definitely want to get there early. They do amazing breakfast & it is always packed, but worth the wait.

Hugo’s is not your every day greasy spoon. It’s a healthy diner like type of restaurant that offers a menu that is both carb friendly and vegan friendly. Obviously, carbs are probably going to turn a lot of people off since this is LA, but the vegan friendly spot will bring them in… witness to the wait time each and every Sunday. The menu is extensive. Ranging from breakfast thru dinner with an extensive selection of teas and juices. They do take reservations, which is highly recommended if you’re coming with a large party. Otherwise, your wait time can range in the hours. By in large, the food is pretty consistent with a few slips here and there, which can be rectify by shrinking the menu. The are famous for their pasta mama, which is a breakfast pasta, yes I did say that. An interesting combination of pasta, eggs, ham and seasoning. The vegan option obviously substitutes the eggs and ham with tofu and the cheese becomes Daiya cheese instead of regular cheese. Does the flavors get lost in translation, yes but that’s almost common with vegan dishes that are trying to keep the taste and feel of its not vegan version. I wish they would somehow find a way to match that and it would be pretty awesome if they did. They have a good specials menu which changes monthly. The vegan pancakes a few months back were delicious, but plenty too much in portion size. The space is warm and inviting, yet like any restaurant if you want to talk privately during high rush hours, ask for a seat in the heated patio. They offer a small lot which is valet on the weekends, but there are plenty of street parking available.

Once again had a great experience At Hugo’s. 5 of us came before a play and were told we had about a half hour wait, which was cutting it close, but they said they’d do the best they could for us. A table for 6 was reserved, but when the party didn’t show up 20 minutes after their reservation time the restaurant made us a priority and gave us the table. The food was excellent as usual and so was our server. We shared our time crunch and Allyson took our order, was attentive while not being pushy and earned a well deserved tip for great service. We always enjoy the food, and the service was sublime

Hi my name is Sara and I am a fatty. So amazing! I ordered the brownie sundae and no I did not finish it on my own. It was probably the best dessert I had in a very long time

Note that I am a gluten-free vegan. I sincerely appreciate how Hugo’s designates menu items as GF and vegan, where applicable, and has TONS of options for plant-based diners. FOOD: I live near Hugo’s and it’s one of my staples. I order to-go at least once a week. I am seriously obsessed with the Power of Green Salad(the house-made balsamic here is unbelievable). I also appreciate that the veggie patties are house made from scratch. I am a big fan of the build-your-own veggie burger with gluten-free bread(seriously one of the best GF breads I’ve ever had). Other hits include the gf/v mac and cheese and the kale casserole. GLUTEN-FREE/VEGAN MAC N CHEESECHALLENGE: I am a self-appointed gf/v mac n cheese(«GFVMNC») connoisseur and have taken upon myself the challenge of eating all GFVMNC available in Los Angeles. I rate all GFVMNC either amazing, good, whatevz, or gross. I rate GFVMNC here as good. DESSERT: Hugo’s is home to one of my fav desserts ever – the sticky bun. Note, however, that«sticky bun» really isn’t the appropriate name. Envision, if you will, what would happen if a churro and a cinnamon roll had a baby. Then make it gluten-free, vegan, and warm from the oven. YUMMMM. AMBIENCE: Casual, family-friendly diner, with a pleasant covered patio. Wouldn’t come here for a first date… more like a third date before a movie. ***PLEASENOTETHAT I ACTUALLYRATETHEVEGANFOODQUALITYHERE5⁄5.
