Went here based on a recommendation from Thrillist — didn’t want to hit the over hyped Pink’s. Overall good. It’s a metal train car, so it’s not well insulated. Was cold during our December visit, hope the AC works good in the summer! Good dogs, fries, and drinks. Carney’s provides what it promises. I’d stop by again if I was in the neighborhood.

Only someone new to town, or a tourist, needs a review of Carney’s. But this is my way of saying thanks. High quality burgers like Angus beef and turkey, a delicious array of topping choices like chili, grilled onions, sauerkraut, chili paste and many more, plus friendly staff and reasonable prices… all inside an old train car. It’s the perfect healthier, custom-made fast food meal… which is why the lunchtime line is often out the door.(Don’t worry – it moves quickly.) Carney’s deserves to be the treasure that it rightfully is.

Shoving a chili dog and chili fries down your throat isn’t exactly inducive to healthy living but hey, it was during the holidays ;) and really I’m not looking for nor do I need an excuse to eat this way. We were out holiday shopping, it got late and we needed dinner so I suggested Carney’s. It’s fun! Is the food great? No. Is it even good? That’s a matter of opinion. But having a dog on a train is just cool. If you are looking for the best chili cheese dog or chili cheese fries, are they here? Probably Not, but Carney’s is a fun spot every 6 or 7 years, however long it had been since I last stopped in.

The food isn’t that amazing but it’s such a cool place and it’s got to be one of the cleanest fast food spots around. For that 4 stars.

Came here New Years Day and they didn’t have enough hot dogs cooked. Waited about 10 minutes for 2 hot dogs as everyone behind me got their hamburgers. Still good, but long wait once I ordered.

This place is amazing, very family friendly. I have been coming here my whole life and have memories from this place. Very friendly owner who gives french fries to kids as they wait in line. I was there and he gave us two free chili dogs. I will continue coming back here for their chili cheese fries and burgers. I can’t wait to have a family and bring my kids here.

Not sure how this place is so good. Huge, hearty portions definitely satisfy an appetite. Even my wife was overwhelmed with a garden(veggie) burger. She said it was so hearty she felt like she was eating meat. Customer service could use a bit of an improvement, our cashier was very short and borderline rude but the food definitely enables you to overlook the unfriendly staff.

My hamburgers were undercooked on two occasions. The second time, I specifically asked for well done, it was still pink in two places. If I liked rare, it’d be awesome, but I don’t so it’s kind of icky to me. I tried not to think about it and eat without looking at the meat. The train car is cool and the kids love it so we will come back.

One tends to forget what great treasures your neighborhood can offer especially with all the new and shiny establishments that are quickly popping everywhere. Carney’s is one of those treasures. A greasy spoon heaven masked as a train car. On a rare cold night in the Valley, I was really craving their chili cheese fries. And as my boyfriend never eaten there. What a great way to introduce him to Carney’s. Along with the chili cheese fries, had their red hot spicy with grilled onions and sauerkraut. Super spicy. Gave me another layer of coat to beat the cold. I never had any of their desserts, but I just love the fact that you can get a Klondike ice cream bar.

Cheeseburger: Burgers come with mayo, ketchup, mustard, thousand island, tomato, onion, pickle, and a slice of cheese. Why ketchup and mayo PLUS thousand island? Isn’t thousand island basically a combo of ketchup and mayo? Odd to double dip. All patties are cooked well-done because they are pretty thin. The burger looks a lot better than it tastes. A sign out front says they have the best burgers(in LA?). There are definitely better places for a burger throughout the greater LA area… I can think of two off the top of my head. Chili Cheese Fries: Tons of chili! The chili was hot temperature wise, and had a little kick. The quality was just ok. A slice of cheese on top that was melted down by the chili. Strawberry shake: it looked like a vanilla shake with a hint of strawberry mixed in. Must mix better. It tasted alright. My first time back in a while… still has the same great décor! It’s pretty hard to beat eating a burger or a hot dog on a stationary train!

I really dig this place. The classic train car setting is super unique, fits Studio City’s trendy-meets-low key vibe perfectly. The only other sloppy chili dog I’ve had in LA is Pink’s, this is extremely similar. So much so in fact that I’d be hard pressed to tell the difference side-by-side. Come here for messy, fattening deliciousness. It’s charmingly un-LA.

My boyfriend and I were driving around studio city looking out for a place to eat. I’m a big time Unilocaler, so I decided to look at the many restaurants around the area which were so many I couldn’t decide on what exactly, until my boyfriend quickly turned the car around and drove into this restaurants parking lot where I was awed with the architecture because the restaurant was a train . Once I stepped inside I immediately went on Unilocal to see the reviews and they were all positive ones, not to mention the pictures made it all that more tempting to try . I ordered a cheeseburger and my boyfriend got the double cheeseburger with grilled onions and bacon and to top it off we both shared large chili cheese fries. Now as we were waiting for our food I couldn’t help but hear the background music they had playing because its one of my favorite bands and just the environment was for lack of a better word«chill» . We got our food and we both immediately took photos to post up, and as soon as my boyfriend took his first bite he said«I’m sorry but I just fell in love again, «haha . I thought the same thing in my head . Juicy burgers, refreshing beverages, the chili cheese fries weren’t too overwhelming but still tasteful, not to mention great atmosphere and customer service; I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect evening that night . Therefore I can’t wait to come back again!

What a cute idea to make a restaurant out of a train. And the food is good too. The customer service, even better. They are famous for their chili — which looks a little gross — but tastes really good. I enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Refills for drinks are half-price which I think kinda sucks, but otherwise — two thumbs up.

What more is there to say? A real train perched in the middle of Ventura Boulevard that serves really good chili hot dogs & hamburgers. The owner is on-site and takes pride in the food and the service is fast. The hot dog has great texture, and the burger feels like quality meat. If there are complaints, it’s that the buns(on both) are too soft and don’t hold up to the chili. The taste is awesome, though, even if the price is a bit high(six bucks for a dog, for instance, when a full-sized man needs two to be satiated). Then again, you’re paying for experience, and it doesn’t disappoint. Also, great place to take a kid.

Service: 2⁄5 I would have given the service a four given how clean the place was and at first the guy taking our order was very helpful. However, I can’t stand when people tell me they think what I order isn’t good and I should get something else(chili dog with slaw on top). Food: 4⁄5 My chili dog with slaw was awesome. It covered the rather nasty looking chili that looked exactly like dog food but it did taste good. The slaw however was excellent and tied everything together. Also they need sport pepper at the counter.

After driving past this train on the side of the road multiple times I decided to give it a try. I came here at night time and the train had flashing lights along the top. Very catchy. We were greeted right away by the lady taking orders and even the cooks. They noticed I was with my kids so right away they gave them a small bowl of French fries while I ordered, for free! I thought that was really nice of them. I wonder if they do it for everyone? The inside of the train was clean. The décor was simple with framed pictures of trains and historical Los Angeles. They were playing relevant and updated music. My little girl was rocking out eating her free French fries while waiting for our food. Also I noticed they have plenty of outdoor seating with shade. Oh and there was a security guard walking back and forth the train. I ordered a cheeseburger protein style with train wreck fries. Train wreck fries are fries with melted cheese, chopped grilled onion, and 1000 island dressing. Very similar to In-N-Out animal style French fries, but way better! The fries have the perfect texture— not too soft and had a nice crunch to it. Also ordered chili cheese fries, chili cheeseburger, and a ½ pound chili cheeseburger. Everything was good and not greasy as I expected. I ordered all of my food to go and I must say I really appreciate how they packed the fries. The container that my train wreck fries came in was taped on the sides so it wouldn’t open on the way home. Also I was expecting the chili cheese fries to be really soggy by the time I got home but luckily they packed the chili separately from the fries itself. That saved the fries from becoming too moist. Thank you!
