It took 3 salons to fix the damage, and in the end I woke up the next morning looking like Mike Nesmith from The Monkees. I wish I could say I was exaggerating. My daughter and I came in for trims. Nothing fancy. We like our current do’s, so just clean up what we’ve got. We actually both have the same haircut… long, no layers, wispy sidewept bangs. We both walked out of there with trimmed ends and heavy, thick, chunky, jagged, uneven, blunt bangs. I told both stylists what we wanted. I used the words«wispy» and«sideswept». I even explained that when we’d gotten them done initially, that stylist had used her scissors to slide down the hair. I was met with«a look» from the MasterCuts stylist. They both trimmed our lengths pretty well, but when it came time for the bangs, both of them snipped away at them for 5 or 10 minutes. At no time did scissors glide down the length of the hair to create the desired effect. Periodically, the stylist would stop and ask if it was OK. I would try and pull my hair down over my eye as I usually wear it. She kept pulling out her brush and rolling it up and around my eyes, fluffing my bangs and making them round against my forehead. I kept saying, «No, I don’t wear it like that.» and I would proceed to explain again. I offered to show her a picture of what I wanted. It wasn’t an unrealistic picture from a magazine or a model. It was a selfie on my phone of me with my own hair the day it was cut the first time. I wanted a repeat. She didn’t want to see it. She kept saying, «Oh, I know. I’m not done yet. I need to texturize them.» I kept saying I didn’t know what texturize meant. She said it was thinning them out. I said, «OK, but this doesn’t look right down here» and I’d explain more. By that point, my bangs were completely short… just above my eye instead of sweeping off the side of my face and were a straight line across my eyebrow. There was no sweeping whatsoever. The hair was just thick, and chunky, and pushed to the side. When I pulled my bangs down in front of my face, they made a «sort of» straight line, but it was all over the place… like a VERY sloppy Zoey Dechanel. My daughter came out looking the same. I went to another salon who couldn’t fix it. Finally, I went to Great Clips. They knew exactly what a sideswept bangs was and how to cut it, and they gladly did so(although now it is very short, but at least it’s cut correctly so it will grow back properly)… OH! And that’s also when I found out that the section of hair that I was concerned about not looking right was my side hair. The Great Clips stylist wanted me to know that the MasterCuts stylist had cut INTO my side hair and added MORE heaviness to the bangs. I guess she’s really gung-ho about that texturizing thing! It’s right there on the side of my head. I can’t tuck my hair behind my ear on that side because it looks like a Sour Patch Kid cut off a chunk of my hair while I was sleeping. I have to keep other strands of hair over this part to hide it. Basically, there’s nothing that can be done except to grow it all out, especially the side hair Looks like lots of Biotin and D3 is in my future. She also cut against my part, and I can’t move my part at all to try and cover up the mess. I woke up the next day and my hair had been so tortured that I literally looked like Mike Nesmith, complete with the ridiculous bang wave and everything. I have a side-by-side picture of Me & Mike, but I’m not gonna post it. Let’s just say it got a lot of Likes on Facebook, but for all the wrong reasons. It’s ridiculous. In all seriousness, our haircuts were so bad that we didn’t feel like shopping after that, and we had been thinking of having a nice dinner, but we’d lost our appetites. The only reason I went to Great Clips is because I wasn’t going sit and cry on the couch all night. I was literally in tears by the time I got home. Every mirror I passed… every window reflection… was a horror. If you want to know how my daughter felt, well, as soon as she hopped out of the chair, she pulled out her bobby pin and pinned her God-awful bangs up and out of sight. I posted a picture of myself that I had taken the day before along with the MasterCuts hair. It’s pretty sad when you look better with 6 months of overgrowth and split ends than an hour after the chair. Just in case anyone from MasterCuts reads this… I do not«return» haircuts just like I don’t want another salad after I find a fingernail in the first one. I simply don’t go back to that place anymore. I am also in the market for a custom color job that I expect to pay anywhere from $ 200-$ 300 for. I also buy«product» from the salons rather than the grocery store shelf. When I first walked in, I was looking at some new shampoos, and I had noticed your color swatches. I had planned on doing both at this store, but after my experience, I just wanted to get the heck out of there. Bangs are a basic skill that 2 of your stylists couldn’t do.
