The Ranch at Fossil Creek

So nice. The baby goats are adorable and the goats seem well taken care of and I loved meeting them all and their funny personalities. There was a little vocal cat that showed up for some attention

5 stars all around.
The staff was super friendly. We came for the goat milk lotion. They recently up the price to $ 15. I also ended up purchasing the goat milk lotion for $ 10. They have a goat and llama farm as well and a wheel barrow full of hay for us to feed the animals.

What a hidden gem! While exploring Strawberry, AZ we saw signs advertising «goat cheese & fudge» and decided to spot by. So glad we did!
When you first pull in you see an adorable goat farm overlooking gorgeous views and a quaint little shop. We stopped and admired the goats and took in the scenery before heading to the store.
They sample all of their various goat cheeses and they are incredible! My favorites were the «Lavender Pepper» and «Basil». The store also had fudge, soaps and lotion.
We purchased the Basil Goat Cheese and some crackers. It was the perfect snack to take back to our campsite.
Next time I’m in Strawberry I’ll absolutely be back!

We visited this weekend and unfortunately, the owners were out of town so no tours were available but we were free to run and play with goats as much as we liked. The goats are SO cute and friendly. If you have goat lust as I often do, come here and get your goat fix.
We did a tasting of the cheese and fudge which were both fantastic. While the cheese is on the spendy side, it is delicious and tastes significantly different from grocery store goat cheese. Let a few dollars loose and take some home. (Nuzzling the goat cheese is not recommended — just eat it.)

Goat were absolutely cute & so friendly! The pecan goat milk fudge is yummy! The only thing i didnt like was that it was so hidden! And the sign to get there were small having bigger signs and arrows wuld be a 5star otherwise once u get there is nice!

Goats! So many goats! Some of them were even cute little baby goats. Although the ranch was smaller than expected, I had fun petting the goats, looking at the llamas, and browsing through the store. The store is also a little smaller than imagined, but they sell some tasty goat cheese and goat’s milk fudge. I took home a small tub of basil goat cheese, fresh havarti, and chocolate goat milk fudge with pecans. Service was very friendly and we got some tips for good spots to go hiking. While I wouldn’t travel from the Phoenix area just to see the ranch knowing how small the ranch is, I’d probably stop by again if I’m in the area.

The only reason I will ever return to this place is because of the goat cheese spread. The woman that was operating the store inside was extremely rude, we essentially got thrown out of the store because she was not finished with the two people that were inside. Making it seem like only two people were allowed in the store at one time. It seemed like she profiled us, did not think we were going to buy anything, so she be littled us. I ended up buying two packs of their cheese. She barely spoke to me when checking me out, did not even say thank you to me for buying her cheese. Just terrible customer service. The first time I visited the ranch, I was yelled at, by the same lady, to not touch her goats without paying $ 5. You really cannot let anyone touch your animals at all without paying? That’s a little desperate. Especially when your 3 oz thing of cheese is $ 8. I would not go far out of your way to visit this place. But I do admit, the cheese spread is really good. But be ready to be treated horribly.

The people were unfriendly, especially the lady who seemed to be the owner. My friends and I were treated like children. Customer service was awful. The soft cheese is good. However, if you want to pet the goats or llamas, you have to pay $ 5 even if you buy some of their merchandise.

Really glad we found this place. Great low-​key day with the kids… our own 3, and all their goats! And oh my gosh, the goats They are precious. Don’t even get me started on the cheese and fudge. I would have eaten my body weight in fudge and the shiraz berry cheese if left to my own devices. That good — no joke!

Three words: goats milk fudge. Try it and thank me later. Awhile back, I visited The Ranch after a long hike down to Fossil Creek. The Ranch is situated on the outskirts of the road that leads to the long hike down. This is a delicious and adorable farm is a goat farm and is home to adorable goats who product delicious milk and goat’s milk products. Goat cheese anyone?! They also provide great opportunities to feed the goats and enjoy other family-​friendly activities. While this farm is located in Strawberry (about an hour and a half to two hours from Phoenix), they also sell their products at farmer’s markets around Phoenix. I highly encourage you to try their amazing products!

A little out of the way, but worth it… I just polished off half of their Lavender Pepper cheese container. ALONE. Okay, I wasn’t alone. There were several honey wheat pretzel sticks (from Trader Joe’s) involved.
My three year-​old loved getting to pet and wallow around with all of the baby goats. We would have loved a tour, but it was sort of an off-​day for us– maybe next time!

This place is a hoot. My family loves it, I love it, I want to own it someday! Maybe John will sell it to me; I promise not to change a thing. It should be high on your list of things to see and do. The fudge is fantastic as well!

Extremely nice owners sold us amazing fresh goat cheese with fresh basil, and body butter made from fresh goats milk.

My secret diabolical plan (rubs hands while laughing hysterically) involves giving this place 1 stars so that less people will come, leaving me as the sole visitor and hence statistically enhancing my chances of petting ALL the goats at once. MINE. ALL MINE (muahahahaha)
Sadly, I’m a terrible liar, and probably a worse Disney Villain. *Sigh*
So here is the truth. This place makes me feel like a Disney Princess. When I was told about the Ranch, I envisioned myself in a glorious sundress and floppy hat, running through the fields singing «the hills are alive with the sound of music» while baby goats chased me around and birds perched on my shoulder.
Its not quite that. There are goats, and grass (mostly dirt) and then poop. Lots of poop, and pee. Apparently the baby goats like to pee in unison as a form of brotherly love towards each other. Some of them fart. No, really, air coming out of their ass while making a sound. Pffff.
But somehow a midst the poop and smells (of, I guess poop), something awesome happens. These goats love people, and they love me. They don’t know me, but they love me. They want to be petted, played with, carried, touched, pampered. They’re like dogs that refuse to acknowledge any command like «sit», «stay» or «don’t poop here».
And then the babies. The babies are like bratty puppies that demand attention, in the utmost cutest way possible. And then you suddenly turn around and your hair is being omnomnomed by 3 goats while another one is eating your purse and a 5^th one is chewing your laces. Note to self: come better prepared with no loose fabrics. But they love you, and you love them, and for a split second where you don’t get swatted by flies or the smell of poop: you truly do feel like a Disney Princess.
After your hands are dark from all the petting, you go next door and find yourself protected from the llamas by a gate. Why? Because Llamas are real assholes, you don’t want to be «playing» around with them.
But then you wash up and and get clean enough to walk into the main building and talk to the fabulous couple that owns the place. Unless you drove 2 hours just to pet goats for 10mins, I suggest you try their cheeses and fudge made from goat milk. All the cheese flavors are delicious: plain, garlic, basil, chive, strawberry jalapeño and pepper lavender. They also have flavored fudges with pecans, peanut butter or just straight up chocolate. All a little pricey, but very tasty. Plus you drove so far to get here, you might as well commit to some cheese and fudge.
Then go home and post pictures of yourself hugging goats and let hilarity ensue. Do it.

Yes, I agree with other posters. Perfect fun place for little kids. For a small fee (can’t remember exactly) you get to go in the goat pen and pet and play with goats as long as you like. And there’s 15 – 20 goats in there. While initially I thought, ew, they were really cute. I ended up playing with the goats as much as my kids.
At certain times during the day you get food to feed the goats, but we went at the wrong time. So call ahead of going. Regardless, my kids collected tons of hay from around the property and fed it to the goats anyway.
The llamas were pretty cute too, we got to feed them and hang out and watch them for a while.
The small creamery sells different flavors of goat cheese as well as ice cream. Their goat cheese is sold to several restaurants in the valley and it’s excellent.

Grab your kids under 8 and tell them to put on a cowboy hat. The staff here is great. For free they allow kids to milk the goats and walk in the pens to pet the older ones. Pet a Llama too. The Llamas were bottle fed as babies, so they are friendly to people. The llamas help protect the goats against coyotes and bobcats. If you want to do a picnic hike, call ahead and the staff will take you out into the woods. Call ahead about milking and feeding times. They sell goat cheese and fudge. If you visit some of the top Valley restaurants, you will notice they use goat cheese from the Fossil Creek Creamery. Nice family owned place. I’m thankful they allow the tours.

Finally visited yesterday… beautiful views. wonderful people. cute goats and llamas. fantastic goat milk fudge and cheese. got to hold a 1– week old baby goat… too cute! Take a minute to visit. I think you’ll love it!!!

This place is well worth a visit. The cheese and fudge are fantastic! The animals are clean and happy and love attention! Had a great, unique afternoon here.

The views in Arizona are world renowned and the view from The Ranch at Fossil Creek is no different. Driving back to the ranch there are a couple of turns in the road that give way to spectacular small hidden valleys full of farms and animals. It’s amazing.
I stumbled across the Ranch in 2008 on a day trip to Flagstaff with the kids and of course when they saw the sign for fudge, we had to go. Upon arriving and seeing the goats and llamas they were hooked. And some farm cats helped too!
Having never had goat milk, let alone fudge or cheese I was pretty impressed. Very creamy and yum factor was totally there.
This is a great day trip from Phoenix, especially in the summer when it’s so intensely hot. If inclined, the hike down to Fossil Creek Springs is pretty cool too, just don’t do it in May and make sure you wear good shoes and take lots of water.
