The age old question for ice cream lovers in Stratford, Carvel or Dairy Queen? When it comes to quality, hands down Carvel wins. But nowadays it seems people are more concerned with price rather than quality, and Dairy Queen wins this battle hands down. Unfortunately Carvel seems to have priced itself out of the game, Dairy Queens line is always backed up to the street, while Carvel struggles to have a few customers in the store at any given time. Went to Carvel this past summer and purchased a small cone and it was $ 4, while across the street at Dairy Queen it was less then have of that. If you do decide on Carvel, try the maple walnut it’s fantastic.

Carvel… a cross the street is DQ… DQ has a big line… Carvel doesn’t. Carvel looks like a ghetto Baskin-Robbins without all the 36 flavors. Was not impressed by this ice-cream store, I wanted a certain kind of ice-cream which they did not have. I will return(requested by my kids) and see if my opinion can be changed, but make sure they got my ice-cream!

Although there is a DQ across the street that always has a line outside my family and I like this Carvel best of all. The product just tastes better and the staff is always friendly and helpful. They have both soft serve and regular ice cream plus sell very fresh Ice Cream Cakes made on the premise for special occasions. On a hot summer day their air conditioned store sure beats standing on a hot sidewalk with a drippy cone.
