I was involved in a motor vehicle accident. I was a pedestrian in a crosswalk hit by an 18-wheeler truck and dragged through the street. Of course, as a result; I was severely injured. My legs ran over by the wheels resulting in multiple contusions to my soft tissues, bones and skin. My doctor ordered an MRI for my injured body parts and I was referred and sent to ONYXMRI Imaging in Stockbridge, Ga. My appointment was scheduled for 3 pm on a Friday and after my intake paperwork was completed I was introduced to Denise, the tech who would be conducting my procedures.(Denise is a tall, heavyset, Caucasian, older woman) Denise immediately informed me that my MRI test would take 3 – 5 hours and I simply answered«Okay, no problem.» She then said to me «Okay? Just okay?» I didn’t understand what she meant by repeating my answer but I would find out shortly after why she seemed so concerned with the time. Annette was another medical personnel employee sitting at the front desk. Ms. Annette was very cordial, kind and professional to me. She had a warm demeanor and tried her best to make me feel comfortable. Denise disappeared to the back work area then re-appeared to the waiting room to inform me that my test would take a total of 5 hours and that she would not be able to stay for the total time because she had prior plans with her husband for the evening. I couldn’t believe what she was saying to me but I did not reply. I kept thinking to myself«Is that professional behavior?» Denise asked me if I had medication with me then led me into the actual testing area. I was wearing a cotton maxi dress because I had been to multiple doctor appointments and my legs were still very swollen and I was unable to put on pants. Denise told me in a forceful and rude tone«Don’t ever wear that dress again or you are gonna trip and fall and hurt yourself.» I thought her comment was very rude but I did not reply. Denise instructed me to lie down and then proceeded to set-up for my test. This was my first MRI. One of my ankles was the size of a large grapefruit due to swelling and all of my injured parts were very tender and sore. Denise failed to warn me that she was going to put my most severely injured ankle into a coiled pressure harness for 3 hours for the MRI test. I 100% understand she had a job to do but isn’t patient safety and comfort a part of a medical professionals responsibilities? She was very rough and heavy handed in how she handled me. I was in a laying position, immobile and defenseless and feeling a bit abused. I tried my best not to show it but while I lay on the table for my testing I was in excruciating pain and I began to cry. I don’t cry easily, ATALL. In one set of my photos, Denise instructed me that she had to re-take them because I moved my leg. In actuality, I was having muscle spasms due to the nerve damage from my injuries. I guess at this point, Denise realized I was in real pain and so she called in my Mom(who had come to the appt with me) to talk to me and give me some pain meds. My Mom asked was I okay and said I looked very uncomfortable. I had never experienced such poor care while under professional medical attention in my life. In conclusion, Denise was reported to the Director of the facility and I would never recommend anyone I know to ONYX for MRI testing.
