Whenever I drive by I wonder why they have the ugliest most hideous sculptures in front of this gallery. In such a high visibility location you would think this place would get some taste after all these years. In their window now is also raggedy looking clothes and knick-knacks also in poor taste. One time I went in to look at the art and the owner was there and was so extremely mean and grumpy! When on vacation it’s awful to encounter this type of shop.

This is a cool gallery to browse. It has an inside section where the works of several artists are displayed(mostly locals), including the paintings of Claudia Chapline herself. The first time I went here the nice gentleman gave us a tour of the inside and the outside and even looked up the names of the artists whose works were displayed in the sculpture garden, which I was most curious about. The sculpture garden is way cool– there are ceramic, metallic creations(lot of cats, dogs) figures, and other mixed media creation. Check it out! It’s free and open I believe Sat and Sundays. Though I haven’t bought a painting here the price ranges is pretty decent.

I have always loved the outdoor gallery at Claudia Chapline! Someday when I buy that huge house on the hill and have acres of hillside to fill in with art(oh, yeah, and plants and green things of course), I’ll come here to shop. In the meantime, it’s a great place to browse. It feels a bit like an oasis from the busy streetside of downtown Stinson Beach. Lots of cool ceramics and metal sculptures outside. Some ceramics and mixed media and a lot of paintings and photography inside. Nice light space for looking at art. Items for many different budgets. Downside is the volume of paintings stacked against the walls or in «flip-files». Claudine is charming and personable but pretty much stays out of your hair unless you engage her.
