Watch out for the staff here — I had a cashier named Frederick try to steal cash from me because he seemed to think I wasn’t paying attention!
I accidentally handed him a 20 and five ones instead of four ones for a bottle of vodka that came out to $ 23 and change (about .25). I thought I might have given him one too many and went to grab the money I had laid down on the counter to re-​count it, but he snatched it up before I could pick it up again. I figured he’d just hand me back my extra dollar like cashiers always do if I had given him extra.
So, he’s now busy putting the money in the register and I notice that the register display is showing «CASH: $ 25.00. CHANGE DUE: $ 1.75». «O.K.» I think.
«I did accidentally give him a dollar extra. He’ll just give it all back to me in change.». And yet, he hands back 75 cents (or whatever it was…77, 74…) and says «here is your change! thank you come again!» and quickly motions forth the next customer (it was dead quiet in there when I walked in and this other guy was the only other person in the store). So I notice and say «Uh, hey I think you owe me another dollar» and with the most sheepish expression, in the most insincere «ya got me, let me play this off, be fake nice and get you outta here before you make a scene» type of voice (he had been somewhat curt and quiet with me until this point) he says «OH YES SIR, SORRY HERE YOU GO THANK YOU SIR!» and quickly goes straight for the dollar back out of his still-​ajar register and hands it back to me before turning his head and attention back to the other customer faster than you can say «triedtopullafastone». The other customer just looks at me with this incredulous grin all while the cashier is intently looking away from me and we both just shake our heads and I walk out of there, astonished that someone would go to such lengths to steal a single dollar from me.
I could have lived without the dollar, but I’m not inclined to support a franchise of the state ABC whose employees (possibly franchisees?) try to swindle customers, even out of a single dollar, which makes it seem all the more pathetic, desperate and greedy. A dishonest business to patronize.
With two other Sterling locations, you’re better off shopping for your beverages elsewhere.

This is my favorite place to go Christmas shopping! And personal shopping… :)
This ABC store is always well-​stocked, super clean, the cashier or another associate is available for help. Usually there are only one or two other customers in the store when I go in. The shelves are full and there are several different types of alcohol, even brands, and lots of things for mixing drinks (like flavored vodka for Jello Shots).
Price seems fair, it is Virginia, so they don’t have much control over what they charge.
The one thing they don’t have, gift bags!
