There are few times in one’s life when a meal stays on your mind for the rest of the week. Peck’s achieved that status this past Saturday. For seven days I have been drifting in and out of day dreams starring that tender, smokey goodness that is that chopped BBQ. If I could replace my houses running water with that vinegar based sauce, I would happily bathe in that smokey goodness twice a day(which would be an increase from typically bathing thrice a week). The service is happiness incarnate, and the prices are so low that you leave feeling like you stole something. I travel all across the country for work, and have sampled a wide range of BBQ during my travels and I can whole heartedly say that I have never left a restaurant so satisfied. In fact, it’s more than satisfied. I fell in love a week ago, with a beautiful woman named Peck’s, and since then, no girl that I have laid eyes on has come remotely close to gaining the same affection from me. I am seriously considering quitting my job, packing up my car, and driving it to Peck’s parking lot, where I will live happily ever after, with a smiling tummy.

The beef brisket I had was great — very moist and flavorful, not too lean like so much brisket is. Evidently it is not listed on the menu and not always available, and I am not sure why because it is one of the best things they serve. The chopped pork is very finely minced and doesn’t have much flavor — I didn’t detect any smoked flavor whatsoever. Perhaps it would be better if it was pulled pork. The mayonnaise based coleslaw was good.

One of those places that makes you say«thank goodness for Unilocal!» because IN A MILLIONYEARS I wouldn’t have gone inside otherwise. It’s a total dive, and I hope they never change a thing! Food was delicious, and portions were huge. Best thing was the ½ rack of ribs platter — it was one of those meals where you’re SO full but you can’t stop eating. But while the meat is the star the fries, slaw and hush puppies were all excellent as well. Bill for 4 of us — with a hefty tip for the excellent service — was under $ 50.

Found this place on Unilocal when we decided we were hungry enough to stop for dinner on a long road trip. This is not a fancy place — «Seat yourself; the counter’s for take out only.» But the sweet, smoky, tangy aroma that greeted us when we walked through the door reassured us we were in the right place. My wife got ribs. I got chicken and we each shared half our dish. The flavor was great and the(homemade?) sauce on the table was wonderful. Our meals came with fries, hush puppies and coleslaw and the portions were generous and filling, especially when you consider our entire bill came to $ 21 and change. If you’re in the area, don’t miss the chance to give this place a try. And put some of the money you save into an extra big tip — the servers are friendly and attentive.

You have to try this place if your around! We stop by here on the way to Skyline Drive from Snowflex. The prices are very nice(low), and people are super friendly.

Lunch at an authentic little Southern dive with friendly service the whole thing only took me 40 minutes and I was back on the interstate. Great experience. Not quite perfect, as you’ll read below, but definitely better than a fast food stop. This is NC style BBQ. Vinegar-based. Their sauce is good, tangy, a bit spicy, and not too sweet. Food items listed in order from really good to not so great: Hush puppies. Do not leave this place without eating some. The best I’ve had since a catfish house in Texas five years ago. French fries. Boardwalk style goodness. Coleslaw. Red or white. Both are outrageously crisp and good. Chopped pork. Good smoky flavor but chopped a little too fine. The bun on the sandwich. Very low-quality basic hamburger bun from the grocery store.

We were driving through the area, wanting to find something good to eat. I’m glad we checked Unilocal. This place is a gem, just off the highway a few minutes drive. we were able to sit down, order, eat and be back on the road within an hour. The food was delightful. my parents very much enjoyed their BBQ sandwiches with coleslaw. I did not have the coleslaw on my sandwich, but enjoyed it just the same. I would have liked a heartier bread for the roll that it was on, hamburger buns were a bit too flimsy for my taste. Clean bathrooms and building, a bit outdated décor, but friendly and fast service.

Driving by Staunton by way of I 81 we decided to stop and grab a bite to eat. Although we were in no hurry, we did not want a long sit down meal. We were less then thrilled about going to a fast food place, so I decided to look at my Unilocal app. This place got great reviews and seemed like a good option for eating quickly but not fast food. The food was good, fast and cheap. There were four of us in our party and our bill was only $ 21. That is cheaper then any of the chain fast food places. The barbecue was very tasty and we loved the hush puppies. I’m sure we will stop by this place again while passing through.

After living in Texas for two years enjoying some of the best BBQ in the world, we decided to explore what Virginia has to offer. Well it’s not Texas Q but it’s good. We came in a bit too late to try the brisket special so I opted for the rib plate and my husband the chopped bbq plate. The ribs were very tasty and had a nice sticky sauce cooked onto them. It came six to a plate, I actually received seven, and was more than satisfied after three. It came with fries which are made in house not from frozen, and coleslaw choice of white(mayo base) or red(ketchup base, never knew that existed). I opted for the white. I’m from the south and like my coleslaw traditional. There was also a hushpuppy or roll choice. After reading all the posts and raves about the hushpuppies on here I had to choose them. Chopped BBQ came with same options. Ribs were great and no additional sauce needed. Chopped BBQ was ok but not as tasty. The smoke was evident but not worth ordering again. The BBQ sauce was a vinegar base not my choice but I usually don’t use it anyway. Fries were awesome coleslaw good. Now about those hushpuppies, I grew up attending many a fish fry so hushpuppies were a staple, not saying they weren’t good just saying they weren’t great. I would still choose them over the rolls. The service was great and food arrived quickly. All said and done I would go again but I sure wouldn’t mind finding a place who served brisket as a regular menu item in Virginia.

Our family stopped her for lunch while driving through Stanton on our road trip from Massachusetts to Texas. It was amazing and just what a BBQ place should be. Delicious food, friendly and fast service, and a simple, clean dining area. My husband had the half chicken plate and the the pork BBQ sandwich w/the red slaw on the sandwich. Both great, but the sandwich was a standout! Our son had the same sandwich and ordered another to go bc he liked it so much(he’s a growing 15 yr old!). I ordered the fried oyster sandwich(thanks to another Unilocaler’s review) which came with 4 delicious, sweet & creamy oysters on it. I loved it with their tartar sauce spread on the bun. My side of hush puppies were great, too. It was the first time I’ve ever eaten them. I can’t compare, but they were very tasty and not greasy. Our youngest just had a nice little grilled cheese sandwich and some of the best hand cut fries that we’ve ever had. We are so glad we found this on Unilocal… some wonderful Virginia style BBQ!

Wasn’t crazy about this place at all. The ribs were just okay and they only had one(vinegar based) sauce so nothing to try to «add» to the flavor. Didn’t like the sides either. The waitress was very friendly and helpful.
