I live directly behind King Kullen — literally a one minute drive away. And yet, I shop at ShopRite further down on Richmond Ave., a ten minute drive away, because I just really don’t like this King Kullen. Don’t get me wrong, the food is fine and the produce and meat are fresh enough, but that’s about all it has going for it. It is very antiquated — needs an update into the 1990s, let alone the 2010s. Not that interior decoration is that important for a supermarket, but it’s a weird vibe: The place is run down. The prices are also noticeably higher than, say, ShopRite or Pathmark, both of which have a better selection anyway. Everyone has their neighborhood supermarket, I just wish mine was decent enough to shop at.
