The Phunky Elephant

Poor wine list. Poor food: Mac & Cheese Rolls came cold & NO seasoning. Chicken Tenders we crunchy but AGAIN, LACKED seasoning. They weren’t even salted after coming out of the fryer. The fries and baked Mac & Cheese were the ONLY salvageable items, both really good. Sister ordered the Braised Short Ribs and AGAIN, NOOOOOOO SEASONING!!! She NOW has to take the order home & RESEASON & TRY & salvage her meal. NO salt on the sautéed Spinach that came with the Braised Short Ribs.
Our waitress TRIED to make our experience as decent as possible for what she had to work with. The Manager was EXTREMELY defensive when he was apprised of the POOR food and CURTLY asked, «What would WE like for him to do?» A DECENT manager would have COMP’ED the HORRIBLE Entrée and not just taken off 10%. It was insulting! Additionally, the wine list is deplorable… Sutter Home, REALLY! NEVER AGAIN!

I came here with friends for an after dinner drink, We should have gone home! The bartender was clueless, the drink were horrible, the bar was dirty. They had live singers so we thought we would stick around. Another bad decision, the music was so loud we couldn’t have a conversation. It’s a typical trashy neighborhood bar. I have been here for dinner and the food was awful, i figured while i was in the area i would come back for a second chance and try the bar. I would NOT recommend this place. There are plenty of bars and restaurants in the area with better food, drinks and knowledgeable bartenders.

I really like this place. I have sat outside in the back area when it was nice out and have sat inside when it’s cold. The food is always good and I love their martini’s. The mac and cheese balls are as good as everyone says they are.

What an amazing/​different place. The atmosphere is very cool and the staff is really nice… especially out waiter Ruben what an amazing man (if it was only 1976 again) they’re food is very different and very flavorful, big selection of beers and it’s great that they always change their menu. I’m not sure what I love more the phunky elephant or Ruben! Go there now it’s a great place!

I came here on a weeknight. The ambiance is sometimes quiet but can get a little loud because of how small it is. The food is really good. They have different, and delicious foods to pick from. I definitely would come back here again.

I’ve been dying to try this place. Last Saturday a group of us, 8, went for my friends birthday. Considering it was Valentine’s eve, I was surprised we got a reservation. I didn’t get to see the back of the restaurant but I was slightly disappointed with the ambience of the bar area. I kinda expected a more cozy atmosphere.
The food was absolutely amazing though. The mac & cheeze rolls were a bit salty for my taste but the Thanksgiving bites & the shrimp soft tacos were delicious.
Unfortunately, the service was painfully slow. Other tables that arrived after us got served before us & although I asked for Hendrix gin I don’t believe that’s what I was served, but I’m sure that’s what I paid for.
Lastly, a singing duo showed up towards the end of our meal & although they were fairly good to listen to, they were way too loud, rendering conversation impossible.
I’d definately recommend the food, maybe stick to beer & sit in the restaurant next time.
4 stars for food, three for the rest.

Went there yesterday. It was my second time there. I was a little disappointed because the service just wasn’t that good! The waiters, bus boys, and the bartender need to communicate better amongst each other. Our server needed to be better educated on the menu as well. We waited a long time for our bottled beer, to then find out they didn’t have a particular one in stock. (after I had to ask what’s going on?) All the beers at our table were warm. Not a great bar setup. The front seating area also needs to work on their air vents because as you’re there, it feels like you are in a cloud of smoke from the kitchen. The reason for the 3 stars, and not 2 is because the food is very good! In fact the food saves the day! The burgers and apps are delicious! It’s places like this that I hope to see improvement. It needs one of those restaurant 911 people to come. Also please get some beers on draft?! What’s a gastropub without draft (craft) beer?

Good atmosphere. Appetizers were good. I would go back Liked that they had valet.

Slow service. Good location, good atmosphere, good food, good beer and good everything pretty much but the service was pretty lame.

I’m so disappointed in this place, my co-​workers and I work a few blocks away. We come here all the time, I made reservations on a Friday for 15 people. They literally treated us like dirt. They kicked us out of the dining room area first, than they kicked us out of the bar area because they needed the table. To top it off they did it in a rude and disrespectful way! Meanwhile, they cleared the table but put no one on it! I will never return to this place again. They treat people with disrespect and like pieces of shit!
To make things 10 times better, I found hair in their macaroni a spring rolls!

I came here for Sunday brunch and i’m so disappointed. The food was amazing but our waitress was so nasty. The service was so poor. It took 15 minutes to get our drinks. On top of that it was snowing and the door was wide open, it was freezing! Our waitress also screwed up our bill. Needless to say i will never be back here again but i’ll miss the food! Btw stay away from Jessica (nasty waitress)

I’m trying to give them the benefit of the doubt because it was brunch, but the service was retry slow. Not just the serving of food, but even just getting our party started with menus or water. The food is alright, but doesn’t stand out. It seems like there should be a little more for the money for a brunch menu. That being said, I like the interior and the atmosphere is pleasant.

Idk how I honestly feel about this place. It’s like a love/​hate relationship with this establishment. It was $ 18.95 a person which includes two complimentary drinks and any brunch entrée. I ordered the steak and eggs ($ 3.00 more) and the waitress said it’ll be a while for those to come out, so my friend and I started with appetizers. We ordered the Mac and Cheese Spring Rolls with «Thai» sauce. They were pretty good definitely something worth the cost. The sauce though was something I had at home. I asked the waitress that I had the same sauce at home and she said that everything in the restaurant down to the ketchup was home made. (Not quite sure on how much i believed her). The entrees came out on a huge square plate and it looked like the main focal of the dish was the eggs and potatoes. Steak was probably half the size of my hand (I have small hands). Eggs weren’t bad, the potatoes were great. Just the steak got me. It was super small. The outside was burnt and «over» charred, but inside was medium well (I asked for well done). Not sure how I’m vibing to this dish. Dessert, ordered the peanut butter and jelly ice cream sandwhich. That was probably the only great worth while food on the menu. Not sure if I’d come back.

We went to the Phunky Elephant for brunch last Sunday. I heard good things about this restaurant and wanted to give it a shot.
We made 130pm reservations and got there a little early. The hostess was nice, but seem a little confused on where to put us. (Really not an issue)
The brunch special was $ 18.95. You pick out one of 8 entrees and you get two drinks. The whole table ordered the burger plate and I can honestly say it was delicious. It were fresh, cooked properly to order and the fries were natural cut, not greasy and yummy.
The service was ok, the waiter was busy and I feel we waited a long time for drinks. He was nice, professional and pleasant but he might of had too many tables. In any case, we had a great time and very good food. We will definitely be back and you should give it a try.
One more thing, parking is tough in this area. So be patient and you will find parking.

Really enjoyed the food and drinks the 2 times I went to Phunky Elephant with my family. The ambience is just really fun for a group of people, you can sit either inside or out.

Came here two maybe three times and I love it. The portions are so overwhelmingly huge but they are good. Drinks are really strong and they have their own beer but tell them chill the cup bc when I ordered beer it was warm and I told the waitress and she chilled my cup. You can make a whole day out of this place bc it’s comfortable. We had cherry pepper bread pork hop and it was delicious. We also had macaroni and cheese spring roll that is our favorite. Another time we had the fish tacos and skirt steak and everything was amazing. Brunch is the best and includes two complimentary drinks. Mya was a great waitress and Jerry (manager?owner?) was very personable and completed my excellent experience.

This place deserves NO stars, read all the previous reviews and everything was good! there was only one bartender 2 bud lights and 1 margarita took 15 minutes to come! A nice night we decided to sit outside. Our waiter was attentive we ordered apps and drinks which took another 15 minutes, and the apps took 40 but fine whatever a nice night with family. Placed are order for the entrees :
Fish and chips
2 burgers
2 steaks
And chicken tenders
2 hours later or food was still not here. Our waiter kept telling us there was a mistake in the kitchen but the restaurant was full and everyone else after us was eating and getting ready to take home there doggie bags!
After complaining to EVERYONE our food finally came out we asked the waiter and manager to wrap it up we are leaving. She threw our dishes on the table and said get them boxes and have them wrap it themselves! Bitch!!!
I went out for my 30^th birthday with my parents fiancé my sister brother in law and my Niece and nephew and THE PHUNKY ELEPHANT made for the WORST MEAL I HAVE EVER HAD!
I give this restaurant NO STARS…
I don’t blame our waiter but I have no respect for anyone in there. OWN UP TO WHAT HAPPEN (tell me you lost our ticket and never put it in) do not tell me you do not know what happened…
This is the first time I am writing a bad review, but I have never in my life had service like this!

Great atmosphere. Pleasant waitstaff.
If you or someone in your party has a food allergy, beware. The communication seems to be spotty or the chef lacks the skill to address allergies accordingly. The manager (owner?) needs a brush up on standard customer service points. Maybe the place is still too new and has some kinks to work out.

I have a love and hate relationship with Phunky Elephant.
LOVE — The first time i came here, i ordered from the Pri-​Fix menu — the Amish chicken over yukon potatoes and the chicken was flavorless! You’re probably wondering, why i still loved this experienced. It was because my boyfriend ordered the Smoked BBQ Braised Short Ribs served over creamy Mac N Cheese with crispy, smoked fried onions (according to their menu). The ribs melted in my mouth, the fried onions, the mac n cheese — it was sooo good!
HATE — whenever I do go here, I order those smoke bbq braised short ribs. However, ive ordered it for 4 times and each time its always different. The last two times were a huge disappointment. Im not sure if the cook had a bad day, but i mean, the food was bad. It was bland and the mac n cheese was watery instead of creamy. So im wondering, how do you mess up mac n cheese that bad? I also asked for extra BBQ sauce and what i got in a cup was the juices from the braised rib. It was the weirdest thing.
Overall: this place can get pricey. Sometimes i don’t mind paying a little extra if the food is amazing. However, that’s not the case here. I don’t think i will be going back soon. The food is just very inconsistent.

This spot reminds me of a spot in a hipster area. It’s real cute and a great addition to the island. I’ve come here for lunch, brunch and just to enjoy listening to the music. For lunch I had their animal burger. It was delicious, but be prepared to pay for it. Their regular menu is a bit overpriced. I recall it being about $ 20 for the burger. The brunch menu has a good crab cake sandwich. The brunch drinks are limited and just okay. Overall I like this spot more for the vibe. If they lower the cost of their menu, improve the brunch drinks and open before 4 I’d go here more often.
