One star because specials are good and kids love the arcade. Staff is not courteous to customers at all. They were hostile and almost nasty to every customer who were just trying to purchase a lane and rent shoes. Owner should hire more workers or they should work on their people skills!

The two girls working tonight were very rude. Train your staff how to be polite! Also they told us $ 25 over the phone and when we got there we paid 38! Do yourself a favor and go to Rabs this place is a dump

I have just one major concern … Turn on the AIRCONDITIONER!!! Are you this cheap that you can afford to keep it cool in the bowling alley. It’s a displeasure to bowl here in the summer. It feels like it’s 90 degrees every week. I have sweat dropping down my back. It’s so hot that my thumb sticks in the ball, making it annoying to throw a good shot. Do yourself a favor and go to rabs instead. They turn their air conditioner on in the summer. Ps don’t bother complaining to the front desk, they lie and say they will turn it down and never do.

Bad service here, idiot staten island kids who go here on weekend nights, and bad service. I only give this place 2 stars, and not 1, because of the weekday mon-fri 12−5pm bowling and pizza special($ 251 hour of bowling, 2 shoe rentals, and a large pizza after). Also, I’ll give the guy(I think it was the owner credit) for giving me the special one time when I came in on a Tuesday afternoon. I had no idea there even was a special, and he was nice enough to inform me of it and give it to me, which prompted me to come back again on a weekday. Now, I went here once on a Saturday night, not knowing how expensive bowling can be. $ 40 for 1 hour of bowling, plus $ 4 per shoe rental. between me and my gf I wound up paying over $ 50. No offense… but bowling is a game, not a sport, and a game that literally gets boring fast, so you can only do it for so long… Your lucky people even still go bowling! lol $ 50 is crazy, if im going to spend $ 50 on a night out, it better be a show, a nice dinner, or even a Yankee game. but not bowling. They charge so much on a weekend because its«cosmic bowling» where they play music videos and have light effects. The service here sucks. I came here 1 time with gf and another couple. They already charge a lot of money for bowling as it is. Why do you need bowling shoes? one time I came here and bowled without them, no1 said anything. so this particular night, the girl at the desk insisted we get the bowling shoes, I told her we don’t need them. + I don’t want to put on disgusting bowling shoes, as the shoes here are nasty. So we started bowling, and then 10 minutes into the game, the lane just shuts down. I walk up to the counter, and the girl, is extremely nasty, and she demands I pay her $ 16 for 4 bowling shoes, or else she will keep my lane off, and keep my money I paid already for the hour. So I paid for the shoes, and she took her time putting the lane back on, which cut into my bowling hour. Bottom line: If you want to pay $ 50+ to throw balls around on a weekend, hey to each is own I guess… Only way I would ever go to this place, is a weekday afternoon with pizza and bowling special, and an empty alley so no jerks here. if this place ever does away with that special, then it will be totally useless to me.

I booked a birthday party for two of my children. I told them during three separate phone calls that we would have a lot of children. When we arrived they were not prepared. Party started at 4. We didn’t bowl until 4:45. Total chaos. Everything was an issue. Ordering more food, getting more shoes. Eye rolls and constant attitude from everyone. Best part is they added 15% gratuity to the bill and the party helpers had the nerve to tell us that they don’t get any of it. Stay away for parties. Total ripoff.

No wonder the place is empty most of the time now, except for league nights, when the place fills up with rowdy, aggressive, mid-week drinking folk who don’t care where they bowl. Parents beware: The place is too disorganized to even think about this venue for a birthday party. The staff, who automatically give themselves a tip in your bill, get rooms ready just seconds before your party start time. Your guests will arrive and the kids will have nothing to do as they prepare the party room, then about 15 minutes later– which cuts out some playtime– they will begin to set up the lanes’ computers. They under-estimate the amount of food your party needs, and basically most of the time you’re kind of on your own, seeking out the staff that you’re overpaying for. Our party’s kids started playing after about 40 minutes past the stated starting time. Even though they promised tablecloths and additional generic settings in addition to our themed ones, they left some of our guests eating on top of bare tables. You really have to have a lot of patience and have guests who are really, really nice in order to end up having a good time. You also need to be behind the staff at all times, prompting them the whole time, for example, to bring out more beverages. There is a slight possibility that if your party is very small it may end up being OK. But the service though leaves a lot to be desired. This began from the night we inquired to book the place, all up until the party actually began. The two servers that were assigned to us were OK, one was sweet(seemed new) and the other was so wooden and matter of fact– neither had any sense of how to deal with kids– at least we had some family members who helped out. Those who remember what this place used to be like when it first opened and haven’t been here since would be shocked! I would’ve appreciated someone telling me about this place in terms of party place before I booked one. The owners are probably too busy with other ventures and couldn’t care less as long as the money keeps coming in. See for yourself one day… check out the young girl at the booth who gives you bowling shoes… nasty as all… and couldn’t care less of what you think. Sad.

Went during the day on a tuesday and took advantage of 4 sets of shoes an hour of play and a pizza pie for $ 25. Our 4 yr old daughter had a blast. The music was a little bit to loud. It was clean and full of kids all ages. We will be returning.

Pay attention to detail… There’s a lot to be revealed within the fine print… Holy shit and I thought I had a weird experience here… after reading all the Unilocal review glad I wasn’t the only one… I came here during the night… went disco bowling for the frist time ever… actually it was my frist time ever bowling… There were alot of people and lots of noses… I wasn’t sure what was going on… it was way to cowered and over priced for the amount of cramped I had endured… I guess next time I will know… There’s a bar and a game room… The beats and sounds are extremely loud… If you actually want to have a few conversation while haveing a few rounds of bowling I suggest not here… it was my frist time… Wished it wasn’t here and somewhere else I might of enjoyed the bowling experienced more… Tips on bowling 1. Just enjoy the game… don’t take it so seriously… 2. Relax… mentally… 3. Practice makes perfect in just about anything…;)

Keep away from LANE9. I’m giving this place this place two stars, just for the childhood memories every friday afternoon, after the movies, with my after school program. If it wasn’t for that they would be getting one star. My last three experiences here were pretty underwhelming and it each time is has gone down hill. First strike, they skipped over our name by accident when it was time to bowl. No problem, it was busy and I’m a patient person, but there was no apology just an we missed you, next lane will be yours. Second strike, we were given a lane and went to it. The group that was there before us was still there goofing around and gave us attitude when we walked into the lane. Once again, being a patient person I let them do there entitled Staten Island kid behavior and started to have fun bowling once they left. Now here’s the problem. Lane 9 the balls were getting stuck in the gutter track in the back where it is suppose to come back to you through the conveyer system. Our party had 3 balls stuck back there at once. We called for help countless times to get the ball back to us. With the price of bowling this definitely slowed our game down, and even though it was busy you would think the staff would have seen a problem closed the lane down and put us on a new lane. Nope, that didn’t happen and we spent the night pressing the help button or walking up the desk every time the balls would get stuck. Last and final time, I went was a Monday afternoon. I walked up to the desk and requested the pizza and bowling deal that runs from noon to 5pm. The guy, I’m assuming the owner, was on the phone and didn’t listen when he said«how can I help you?» looking at me and then went back to laughing over the phone. He then hung up and said«What do you want?» I told him for a second time. I would like the«pizza and bowling special.» He said«ok.» He took our shoe sizes and gave us a lane. Guess which one? Lane 9. I asked do i just walk into the pizza shop and order a pizza he said«yes.» I went in there and told the guy behind the counter about the deal he asked for a ticket, I told him I would be right back. I went to get the ticket and the guy behind the counter told me «You didn’t ask for the special.» I stared at him in bewilderment because I asked for it twice. I guess by the expression on my face he realized he messed up and said he would«…take care of it.» But I stilled over paid for the special. I get to the lane and started to bowl after the third re-rake guess what, pins are falling down, balls are getting stuck on the conveyer belt, and then the pins wouldn’t even come down we bowled 2 strikes in a row thinking that would reset the pins. At this point I had enough and wanted to walk out, but didn’t knowing I probably wouldn’t get a refund. The guy at the desk didn’t even move our lane, with only 3 groups bowling at 1 in the afternoon, and we had persistent problems through out the session. This place was a joy as a child, but now it’s not. Might as well go across the Island to the other bowling ally. And keep away from Lane 9!

My daughter wanted her birthday party here, so I obliged. They failed to disclose a «service charge» when we signed up. Then they charged me an additional $ 50 on top of the price for the party but said it was not a gratuity. So, what was it? I refuse to pay twice for tips, so that was all the server received. It you are going to charge a mandatory service charge, then disclose it during negotiations. I didn’t argue since it was supposed to be a happy occasion, but i certainly wasn’t going to pay gratuities twice. They did not even thank me for my patronage. Never again for this dump.

This place doesn’t even deserve 1 star. I bowl for a league that has unfortunately chosen this poor excuse for a bowling alley. Nothing about this place is good. The pizza is horrible, and when you don’t eat it you get yelled at! The pitcher of beer is DISGUSTING. The blonde bartender(who thinks she’s 14 but is really 60) is a total bitch who acts like she’s in charge. They play the same 5 slow music videos on the screen over and over. When you ask the kids at the desk they’ll gladly play whatever you want. but blonde Castro comes out and yells at them for doing what the customer asks. Who is the owner and where is he/she because this is no way to run a business and I hope they get shut down someday in the near future.

The Worst Place to be at Award goes to the stinking Bowling alley called Showplace. 1. Service at the desk was horrible. the lady ignore me like i wasn’t there and walk away. she didn’t even say, one second I will be with you… mind you, she see me coming from outside straight to the desk. I didn’t jump the gun and assume anything yet. after waiting for a minute, A guy serve me a lane to bowl on. 2. oh gets bizarre, There was a kids party of 20 plus kids, the guy places me next to them, I asked him can I bowl one lane away from the kids cause I need to concentrate and is very risky when kid are just running around on the lane and don’t know better. The Guy reply and told me that there was going to be league soon and this is what I got only. I said I understand, so went on to the lane that i was assigned, and sure and behold, kids are running in my lane. I had to be diplomatic about it, cause I didn’t want to just run them off and parents on my case. but the real issue come to this point. it’s A bit after 3pm and you have league soon. HMMMM. OK then, I stayed and not one trace of league bowler walk the that door until after 6:15, I knew this being A league bowler myself indicated to me that I was not really welcome in there establishment… I only got to play barely 3 games and not even finish the third game. Kid are just being kids running every where. its happens. oh well but know this. If you’re not there kind(if you know what I mean) you can hang it up even going there, Oh Yeah they made it clear to me. it’s all good thought. You can say I shouldn’t be here to begin with, but coming from Los Angeles its all good in every Bowling Alley and all service is great with everyone meshing one another without incident. I guess Staten Island Belongs to them Well, Keep your bulls*$#t Alley and I hope it goes out of Business… and the food suck as well. I’m Out…

I think Unilocal shoudl seriously create zero stars for places like Showplace. We were there on Sunday for a birthday party. Half of the arcade machines were not working. The hostesses who were supposedly taking care of the kids were nowhere to be found. They served pizza to the kids and then disappeared while parents had to pour drinks for the kids themselves. Then, they brough food and beverages for the adults, and places them at two different ends of the room. But that’s not the worst part. When my daughter went to exchange tickets for prizes, she picked out a lollipop and then, went to see what else to pick, looking at the bottom shelf, so I was looking with her and when I got up, I see one of the girls at the counter sucking on the stick of my daughter’s lollipop, like it was a toothpick. Seeing my face she said«Oops» and then took the stick out of her mouth, to which I said«I would like for it to be exchanged». She gave me the look and when I walked away, wihle my daughter was still at the counter, she called me «Stuck-up bitch». At that point, I should have probably gone to the owner, but we were due to go someplace after the party and I did not cause a scene. Needless to say, I will never come to this place again.

This place is TERRIBLE. I even met the owner and she is the RUDEST individual;I prefer not to support businesses that don’t know how to treat people. She even yelled at my father because he tried to use the restroom but he wasn’t a «customer» even though he was extremely respectful. You just don’t yell at people in your establishment, especially in front of their adult children. I will never come to this place again.

When Showplace first opened in the early ’90’s it was the hang out of choice for teenagers on a Friday night. Saturday night was Bay Street. Back then Showplace consisted of Millard Fillmore’s, the restaurant, not the former president, a bowling alley, 10 + movie theaters, a pizzeria, and an ice cream shop. If my memory serves me correctly, there was even a golf shop. Fast forward to today and the only thing that remains the same at Showplace is the bowling alley. Fillmore’s term was up and was not reelected by a landslide. Note: History DOES repeat itself! Gone is the original pizzeria, replaced by something that resembles one. The ice cream shop is now an arcade. No longer do reels roll the blockbuster movies that define American culture. Now, fittingly, it’s an LA Fitness. The Department of Motor Vehicles did a stint at Showplace but is long gone. It’s not all bad news for Showplace Entertainment Center. In addition to the bowling alley, gym, arcade and pizzeria, there’s also a pool hall and comedy lounge on the premises. And since all of these things are better with alcohol, there’s a bar there for your drinking pleasure. In case you get the munchies you can go to the Wendy’s that opened up there a few years back. Showplace is specialized so it will always have patrons. It’s good for those that aren’t close to Hylan Boulevard. It’s right off the West Shore Expressway so it is easy accessible. The facility as a whole is adequate, although it scares me to say that décor from the 90’s is already old and tacky looking. A face lift, better eating options, and Showplace becomes a four star entertainment center.
