This Doan’s Bones BBQ is a secondary location with a smaller menu catered towards college students. I happen to live right above in the college occupied apartments. This location is also convenient since this area of campus has a lack of food options. On to the food. I’ve had their pulled pork sandwich and a version of their beef brisket sandwich. Both were good but nothing spectacular. The meat was sitting in buffet trays sitting over sterno burners. It had that wetness from sitting around for hours but the meat itself was not all that moist. I can see this as much more of a late night spot when people don’t care as much for quality. The price was a little higher than I would like to spend. Most hot sandwiches are around $ 7 for a 6″ sub and the cold subs are pretty pricy with a foot long costing $ 14.

I had Doan’s Bones for lunch this week… I’m pretty critical of BBQ and have found State College with several options; all lacking in flavor. Dang, Doans!!! PERFECTION! So much great real smoke flavor, the best texture, just the right amount of sauce. They mix in their burnt ends(you can order them ahead if you want them) and that just ups their game. The sauce is mixed in, you dont have to add it at the table, like so many places, so its marinated in. I love that because it states what they want their flavor to be, rather than leaving the ‘doctoring’ to the customer. Its just the right mix of flavors. Also, just a note about the texture. This bbq would be perfect for all ages. You do not have to chew it forever, like jerky. I worked in a bbq pit for a few years. Sometimes bbq can me tough to chew. Doans is perfect! Next time Ill try the ribs…

Worst bbq I have ever had. Absolute road kill. Avoid at all cost. Gave it a star only because black hole wasn’t an option.

I’m so mad, i was craving BBQ food. I came across this in a orderup menu. I thought to myself, Oh boy this sounds good and looks good I got Ribs, baked beans, and pulled pork sandwich. Let me break this down to you. Ribs, garbage. No tenderness at all. I was so mad when i got this. Was literally furious. the sauce was okay, just a regular BBQ sauce. When i bit into it i thought i was gonna get a nice tender and smoky flavor. I didn’t get any of it. Was really disappointed. Was not worth money. If you really want to save your 20 $ worth. Grab the pulled pork. your best bet. Baked beans– was good baked beans, Pulled pork — that was better than all of the things i ordered. Overall. I’m so mad that i ordered from here. Craving BBQ food and this is what i happened to come across. :/ I wish i could give this .5 stars out of 5. Was not really worth it.

After being a regular customer of Doans for the past 2 months, I was treated like a subhuman. I ordered a side of macaroni with the rest of my sandwich, but was asked if I was willing to wait 5 minutes for my macaroni. After agreeing to to wait for that amount of time for their admittedly tasteless side item, I was forced to wait 15 minutes to get my full order, despite the promise of 5 minutes. After the macaroni was ready, my friend and I were accused of not paying for the macaroni! In the actual words of a senior worker, «these guys did not pay for macaroni.» As regulars, I took extreme offense to this baseless accusation, and went to the extent of pulling up my debit card statement to prove that I paid for the macaroni. I expressed my personal issue with the situation, but it was continued to be handled unprofessionally, as the owner himself refused to offer me an apology for accusing me of stealing. After spending $ 100+ at this store, due to pure convenience rather than their quality, my friend and I will never return to this establishment. Mediocre food and shockingly apathetic service and ownership. 1 star.

Tried this location for the first time. I got the half rack of bbq ribs with 2 sides. The ribs themselves were really delicious. The meat was so tender and fell off the bones as I cut into it. The sauce, however, did not taste very good. Perhaps it was a matter of preference, but the bbq sauce was too tangy, almost sour. My sides, cole slaw & potato salad, were a refreshing contrast to the smokiness of the meat. Customer service was superb; the guy in the back was nice enough to check in on us. Overall a very good first visit!

Just got delivery of half a slab of ribs with cole slaw and baked beans. Delivery was quick and efficient but food was eh. The ribs were definitely undercooked and I literally had to gnaw them off the bone and the sauce was not anything to rave about… I ate two ribs and threw the rest out, they were that bad. A waste of money… The coleslaw and baked beans were really good though.
