I came here 2 years ago when it was TAO. It was really good for the price. I came a year ago when it was Fuji Hana. Service was a bit worse. Food not as good but OK compared to when it was TAO. I went today and it was across the board horrible. The place smelled like mop water. For some reason there were bibles at the enterence and at the bar. There was a christian channel on the TVs. The guy who greeted me had on a large wooden cross on a necklace. I thought I entered a church! The food was disgusting. I have eaten a LOT of sushi. Tuna should not be the brown this was no matter raw or cooked. I could not even touch what used to be a good Shaggy Dog roll. Will not go back until it’s bankrupt and a new/better ownership is running it.

As others have said, this is actually called Fuji Hana now. That being said, the sushi is pretty good. We’ve had ‘special’ sushi done by a visiting chef. Pretty standard fare. Nice atmosphere. We didn’t do the hibachi, but we have seen that other folks have fun. I’ve done hibachi at other places, but I’ve always found it too salty. I can’t say that for this place, but I imagine it may be close to being the same. One disappointment was their lack of mackerel(saba for those initiated in the ways of the sushi masters). I like mackerel. Mackerel is good for your soul(and your heart). So that hurt. Hurt me deep. But their hamachi(yellowtail for the uninitiated) was pretty good… so they made up for it just a bit. Good sushi place… many better out there, but this is pretty good.

I drove by today and the sign said«Grand Opening.» It’s now called«Fuji Hana.» I don’t know if the management or menu has changed.

New management, does not mean good results. Waiter forgot about us. I ordered the usual. It took one hour and an apology to realize that I leave lunch hungry. Worried I am. My favorite place this was. No longer it is.

First off, this was my first time here at this restaurant. It was a Monday evening and the interior décor was really pretty. I liked the big fountain with the Koi fish. I was a waitress at a sushi place for 2.5 yrs, so I definitely know my stuff!!! Ok, for appetizers, we started out with 3 miso soups, gyoza, and edamame. The edamame was undercooked but my kids didn’t seem to mind. The soup was hot, but kinda bland. It’s miso soup, so it’s kinda hard to go wrong with it. Our sushi came out pretty fast. We ordered yellowtail, salmon, and tuna sushi along with spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls. The sushi portion was quite big and they were good. The marbling of the sushi was tender and tasty. I’d give them that. I especially liked the spicy salmon roll because there were tempura flakes inside. It was perfect and one more thing, I ALWAYS order everything without wasabi. Next, we ordered the Shaggy Dog, Cherry Roll, and the Dancing Roll. By this time, I was thinking, where’s our gyoza? It’s one of the first things we ordered because my kids love gyoza, so it’s definitely not one of the things I forget to order. Our waitress told me I didn’t order gyoza. She went over our order when we ordered our rolls, NOT appetizers. And I didn’t appreciate her saying I didn’t order it. So, when our special rolls came out, I noticed on the Dancing Roll a creamy green sauce on top. It was not in the description or on the picture. So, I tried it. It was a wasabi mayo sauce. I told her I didn’t want any wasabi. She took it back and all they did was scrape it off. Wasabi has a distinct flavor and you can’t simply just wipe it off. They did a horrible job wiping it off because there was still some residue left. I asked the waitress to just take it off and we didn’t want it. She took the plate away and came back with it again!!! She said they it’s off now. I decided to try it anyway since I’m gonna pay for it right? Well, the sauce mixed with crawfish had that distinct wasabi taste mixed in it. Definitely not edible for me! So, we ate everything else except that roll. A short, chubby lady came up to our table and asked how we were doing. I told her good, except for the Dancing roll. I told her that we ordered everything without wasabi and it came with wasabi mayo. And I mentioned the sauce tasted like wasabi as well. She told me that the crawfish mix has no wasabi in it because it comes premixed in a package. So, to me, she doesn’t know what’s really in it. She continued to tell me there’s no wasabi in it. I told her that we just didn’t like it. Hence the reason why there was only ONE piece eaten. She still did not take it off the bill. We paid $ 13.50 for a roll we did not eat! I asked a very good friend of mine, who used to work for Tao briefly and he told me that lady was the owner. He also told me that the crawfish was the same as the place where I used work at, therefore, it DIDNOT come pre-mixed. That would make more sense because I don’t see how crawfish tails can come premade with some kind of mayo from Kazy’s, the main sushi source for most sushi restaurants. Oh, when our gyoza finally came out, it was awful. It was like it’s supposed to be pan-fried, but wasn’t and it was soggy. Needless to say, we are NOT coming back and when I tipped 15%, I tipped off our subtotal minus $ 13.50 which I still did not feel good doing. Horrible, horrible, horrible!!! And our waitress did not understand English.

I had lunch here the other day and it was decent. There were two of us and we both ordered off the lunch menu. I had a tonkatsu bento box and was pleased with the selection. The miso soup was nothing to write home about. The salad was pulled right from the fridge with dressing — it was too cold, but the dressing had good flavor. The katsu was freshly breaded and nice, although the dipping sauce was right from a bottle. The seaweed was very nice with a bite of vinegar and the sushi roll side was great. I’m not even sure what the sushi was — I expected a CA roll — but was pleasantly surprised at the flavor and I believe coated in perhaps crab flakes.

This was a great place. I went for dinner with my family on a Monday night and it wasn’t crowded at all, but certainly not empty. Our server was very attentive and friendly, as well as being prompt with service. The sushi overall was tasty. It was reasonably portioned for the price and tasted fresh. My parents both had hibachi and I tasted both the chicken, beef, and shrimp and all were delicious. When I’m back in town, I will definitely be returning.

I loved this place. I have lived in tx for 5 months and have been trying out sushi restaurants all over. Every time I would leave disappointed. As soon as I took that first bite of my cherry roll I knew I had found my place. I closed my eyes and tasted the warm tempura shrimp with avocado and spicy tuna on top. I got the miso soup and ginger salad which were good too. My husband got the bass bento box b/c it was on special and everything was very tasty. Lots of food. The fried rice was fresh and very good. It all came out to 27 dollars which to me was pretty cheap for the amount of food. The service there was very friendly and helpful. Was greeted with a smile and a hello from everyone. Can’t wait to go back!

I went to TAO for a quick lunch during the week. I sat alone at the sushi bar. The waitstaff and sushi chef directed me back to the lunch menu very quickly when I ventured to look at the regular sushi roll menu. I chose the pick 2 rolls from the lunch menu. The rolls were good sized but they weren’t spectacular. I probably won’t go back for sushi, but I’d give TAO a chance at the hibachi grill.

Five stars alone just for the service. Jack and his crew always take such good care of their customers. I have been in here and in a rush, and they made my sushi right away to get me on my way. Finding places that treat their customers like family is no easy feat anymore! No matter who my waiter is, they always ask how I am and tell me that they are glad to see me back. Now for the food. Jack’s rice is DELICIOUS! Truly cooked to perfection. My favorite roll is the Spicy Salmon. It’s like nothing I’ve ever had anywhere else. He uses a mixture of salmon, tempura flakes, green onions and spicy mayo and wraps it in rice. Delicious! They also have great edamame(you’d be surprised at how many places screw edamame up) and their crab rangoon is delicious as well. I have also had their Shaggy Dog(good, but if you want Sriracha, you’ll have to ask!), Philadelphia roll and a variety of others. Never had anything bad, but my favorite, hands down, is the Spicy Salmon. I agree with others that the fountain in the middle of the entrance is a little bizarre, but it’s pretty and definitely doesn’t make the food taste any differently. I haven’t tried their Hibachi, but I’d be willing to bet that it’s delicious as well. OH! They have a daily happy hour from 3:00 to 7:00PM, and the prices are great! That’s the best time to stop by. :)

When TAO first opened the food was good – hot – fresh. I just moved back to the area and I ordered the same I always do. The spicy mayo was. not existent on the Shaggy Dog. Instead I got soy sauce… The shrimp was tiny but tempura was really thick. so fake crab, rice, soy sauce and tempura for $ 10.50? Wow! The Crunchy shrimp was OK but once again. more tempura than shrimp. I see them skimping on the food… and not going back anytime soon.

Rice cooked perfectly, great happy hour, wonderful service and staff, love the decoration, each wall is some different awesome material. Fresh fresh fish. Unique rolls, great sauces, nice green tea, very reasonable prices, large portions… drive pretty far out of my way to come here. And I like the fountain in the middle of the restaurant. This place is definitely worth a try. My brother who also loves this place is in a wheelchair and this is his favorite place to come because of the friendly helpful staff and accessibility… and his favorite sushi even before his accident

Lunch specials were great. Bento box is a good deal! Try the Japanese sprite and the green tea ice cream! Lovely Deco! I like how you can watch the Hibachi going on in the next room. Will definitely come back. The waitress was very very nice and friendly.

The sushi here is very very good. The wait staff is great as well. Especially the small perky waitress that always makes a point of greeting my family when we come in even if we aren’t her table. The happy hours deals are excellent.

What’s with the giant fountain in the middle of the restaurant? Did they just want less tables? It’s so weird! We came here for a late night meal and were greeted by nice staff. Our service throughout the meal was good. We sat at one of the Hibachi tables. Wow, everything was expensive(over $ 25 a person) as you’d expect, but it just wasn’t worth the price! The sauces the food came with weren’t what I expected and they weren’t good. The chicken was bland, actually strike that. Everything was bland. The fried rice was greasy, the veggies were bland, the food in general was just blah. I wish their food matched their service. I wouldn’t go back, and I would never recommend this place. I think what they gave us was really the best they do, and it just wasn’t good. Even the Teriyaki sauce I asked for(to try and give the food some flavor) was gelatinous and icky. I’ll avoid this place in the future and I suggest you do too.

I ordered take out sushi here, and was impressed overall. The white tuna was on par with most other places I’ve been, and the spicy tuna was as well. What set TAO apart to me was their spider roll. In the past, most spider rolls are filler and very little soft shell crab. At TAO, I could actually see, and taste the crab. Also, the sauce that was included with the spider roll really gave it a distinct taste. I will be getting sushi here again.

Finally a new restaurant in the Fountains. Too bad it’s only OK. Two stars. I was really impressed by the interior decoration. It was modern and very clean surprisingly after our hibachi chef and meal. My group decided to have dinner at the hibachi grill and have the chef be the grill master for us. I was in the mood for sushi. Our hibachi grill master was an interesting character and a recent transplant to Sugar Land from California. The hibachi man knew what he was doing. He knew how to keep the audience, us, captivated with all his grease fire balls and volcanoes. At one point he was played catch the shrimp. He told one of our eating companion to go about 30 feet away too the far side hibachi chef attempted three times and the third time was the perfect throw with the perfect catch. At one point of the night, I really thought i was going to get hit with a flying spatula at one point in the night but surprisingly he really had good hand-eye and spatula-knife coordination. Everyone was satisfied with their food. The grilled scallops were great. I had sushi instead of the hibachi. I ordered two rolls: a lexington roll and a rock ‘n’ roll. The lexington roll consisted of scallops in the inside covered with shredded imitation crab meat with a sweet mayonaise sauce. This the better of my two rolls. The rock and roll was a fried soft shelled crab and shrimp together in a roll. This was not that good. I brought this one home and tried to eat it later that night, but couldn’t do it. Based on my sushi experience i’m not sure if i would go back for sushi, but maybe if i were in a hibachi mood. Even then i’m iffy. Thinking about it now, i’m not sure if i want to be catching my food. I just want to sit back and enjoy my food not play catch.

I came here for lunch today with a group of co-workers. I believe this restaurant has been open less than a month. I was surprised with the overall size and décor of the place, very sleek and modernly designed with the Asian theme in mind. The bar area looked like it had the potential of being the happening place during happy hour. We sat at one of their hibachi tables in what appeared to be a private room in the sense that it was enclosed from the rest of the dining area. Tito was our cook/chef and he was quite the character. He had a good sense of humor… overdid the jokes a bit, but at least he wasn’t boring. He put on a fun show in the process of cooking our lunch. Everyone was pleased with their food which consisted of different orders from scallops, chicken, steak, shrimp, and calamari, all served with fried rice and grilled veggies. Our waiter also did a decent job of checking up on us and keeping the drinks re-filled. Their regular menu seemed on the pricey side, I think we got a good deal on the lunch specials however. The manager came by at the end of our meal and introduced himself… he mentioned they have a magician who provides entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights. It was a good experience for a new restaurant and I’ll be back to try their sushi.
