The Music: Only true Hip-Hop Club in downtown St. Pete. Good playlist, DJ plays a solid mix of the hottest tracks, from East Coast to Dirty South and I do mean dirty… If this music is not your thing, stay away cause that’s all they play. The Crowd: Very much an urban crowd, typical to clubs like the Underground, Skye, and Whiskey North(hip hop nights). A lot of people standing around smoking, drinking, and bouncing around. If you’ve been to Hip hop clubs out in Ybor, you can expect more of the same. Not the ideal environment for conversation, some may find it too loud. There is a courtyard within the club if you want to take a break from it all. The Club: Not the best not the worst, there are VIP rooms around the club, perfect for groups as well as an upstairs VIP room with access to extra seating space. The charge is $ 10 a head, no dress code, not sure how much for VIP, again, you pay extra just to get a view from upstairs, not sure it’s really worth it. The Bar: possibly the most depressing part, limited and expensive sums it up. For a rum and coke you get a small cup of White captain Morgan(cause that’s all they had) for $ 15 or a regular cup(slightly larger in size) for $ 20. Surprised they didn’t charge for ice. The bartenders didn’t crack a smile. The Staff: Not the friendliest. The Location: Ideal location in downtown St Pete, many options to park, you can park on the street or pay $ 5-$ 10 for one of the many parking garages within downtown if you don’t mind a small walk. Plenty of security around, so it’s pretty safe. Overall: Check it out if only for the music. Limit your expectations, Onyx is nothing special.
