For some reason CSAs or Community Support Agriculture groups are still an underground cult movement in Minnesota. You would think that a state so deeply rooted in farming and community would have more people coming together to support healthy local food from local growers. It’s simple, you pay a subscription fee of a few hundred dollars in the spring in exchange for weekly summer produce harvested fresh all summer long. For those interested there are a few CSA options in the area however Common Ground Garden is the best. Run by the Sisters and students at St. Benedict Monastery/University they not only grow amazing fruits, flowers, vegetables and herbs but they also partner with others to offer local bread, eggs, and meats. The quality and quantity of each week’s share cannot be beat, the staff is heavenly, and they even offer periodic events and classes for members. If you are willing to learn to cook and eat locally and seasonally there is no better value than Common Ground Garden.
