Of course the Carousel always catches your eye. It is very beautiful especially at night. The Carousel operator was very nice. He told me a fact or two about the Carousel which made it even more special and unique, it’s amazing to know the history of a Carousel.

We had to stop by this park when traveling through St. Augustine as the antique looking carousel lit up by lights and the sound of fun pulled us in. It was late at night when we came by about 8:30 at night, I am not sure how late the park is open till, but the carousel was gorgeous at night and looked like a ton of fun. My friends and I are all adults and had a blast on the carousel along with my 2 year old daughter. The fee to ride is $ 1.00 per person, and it ran for about 3 – 5 minutes, didn’t time it but it seemed like quite a while, definitely worth a dollar. There is more to the park than the carousel however that was the only reason we stopped there for. I saw there were kids swinging on the swings and the entire park is gated which is always a plus if you have kiddos. (only negative I would have if going to this park after sunset it is not very well lit. All I could see were the swings as the rest of the play areas were to dark… but then really, who plays in a park after dark anyways… but I think for overall safety if the park is going to be open, then it should be better lit.)

This park would be perfect if they did something about the smokers that come in and smoke around the children. I enjoy bringing my 18 month old daughter here but I am very disappointed that there are ashtrays to accommodate smokers in a place designated for children. The workers of the carousel even smoke on the carousel with the children riding it! I am doing my best to get the county involved to have something done about this. I shouldn’t have to worry about bringing my child to a park where smoking is encouraged.

In memory of Kourtney Davenport Park is a small but unique park that has a old carousel that offers rides for the kids for only a dollar. Fun to watcht the colorful and bright horses going round and round. The park is fenced in some the young ones can run around without getting into too much trouble and has lots of picnic tables and shade trees. However the most special thing about the park is called Kourtney’s Corner. A very cool playground that is designed to be assessable for wheelchairs and other disabled kids. The playground was donated by the Schmidt family in memory of their daughter, Kourteny Nicole Schmidt who tragically died at only ten years of age. A wonderful little park that seems to be always crowded with children laughing and playing. It’s even right next door to a library. A park that little Kourtney would have loved.

This is what most people know as The Carousel Park. You can’t miss it. If driving into St. Augustine from the north, you almost always pass by it. And you almost always hear the kids’ excitement when you do. They have a large antique carousel, which you pay small fee each time you ride. The whole park feels like a nice classic playground. They even have hot snacks which you can get from the concession stand. We had a great time playing on the playground equipment and I had a fun time on the slide made of cylinders. It’s a fun little park, and definitely will be a regular visit for my son on future visits to the Old City. Plenty of parking and the park is gated so that kids can’t run into the very busy streets.
