Very unique. My wife ordered battered halibut. I ordered from their Chinese menu. Fish was far better. Prices reasonable, setting very unique. Steak looked good, but we did not try such. Not sure if I will ever go back. If you have never been, avoid the Chinese dishes.

Just visiting the area for a few days and stopped by Chiz’s for lunch yesterday and was not impressed. I doubt I will go back. I’m glad I happen to have a little cash on me because there is a hand written sign on the entrance door saying«cash only». We went for lunch and I wanted to like it, but first impressions make a big difference for me and I get the feeling this place doesn’t really care about first impressions. For starters, there can’t be more than 20 or 25 seats around the square shaped counter in the middle of the small dining room and very little standing room. Having never been here before, I was slightly confused at how to order or where to go, so I waited for someone to acknowledge our presence or at least say«hello, I’ll be right with you» but the seats were all filled and there was a single waitress who serves and apparently takes your order, over the heads of the existing customers if you’re ordering take-out, which we decided to do because of the lack of seating. But there are no signs letting you know that you just have to stand there and wait for a seat to open up before anyone talks to you or notices you are there. We stood there for a good 5 minutes trying to figured it out. There were a few other groups that came in behind us and ending ip leaving when they didn’t see any empty seats. Pretty soon one of us calls out to the waitress that we are ready to order and she doesn’t acknowledge, so we wait until she seems less busy, and callbout again, still no response and no one else comes out from the kitchen. After a few more minutes, and getting slightly annoyed, another person from our 3 member group calls out a little louder that we are ready to order, and she finally says, «I’ll be right with you. It’s another 10 minutes before she gets to us, and only after a few seats open up, but still not enough for our party to sit down. I’m a pretty patient person, but a sign might be helpful for new customers. There is no cash register, no window, no customer service. I decided to order off of the Chinese menu and order the«S&S and Egg Fu» and was told they don’t serve it during the day.(Ok, then put that on the menu), and I assumed S&S was Sweet and sour, but when we got to the park where we went to eat it turned out to be some kind of pot roast with a sauce on it, that was a little dry and didn’t taste sweet and sour, so I guess I guessed wrong. It was ok food, but definitely not worth the wait and not worth what we paid for it. It took another 15 waiting for our food and I ended up getting the chow mien and S&S, and the chow mien was just goop with slices of celery in it.

Love Chiz’s. This family owned and operated local favorite offers a range of options from chow mien to prime rib. Great place to stop after a day on the Henry’s Fork. The daily special will be sure to please. And you can get a pint of homemade blue cheese dressing to go.

I have never eaten in the restaurant, but I have had them cater twice. Best ever. We had prime rib and steaks with baked potatoes and salad. It was the best prime rib I have ever eaten. I have had prime rib in New York, Chicago, Salt Lake, Las Vegas, etc. and it was better than them all. For a small town restaurant, this place make GREAT food. I recommend their catering!

Awesome awesome food but you have to get there at the right time because there is limited seating! Try the finger steak dinner.

Good food. But, Chiz’s mistreats their employees. they do not talk to their employees with respect and are just plain mean. I would not eat here again.

POSITIVES: We had the steak and shrimp combo, as well as some finger steaks. The steak was cooked to perfection. Their shrimp is huge! Their salad is pretty good, but their ranch is to die for(no joke, it is the thickest, creamiest, and tastiest ranch I’ve had). It was hard to stop eating. Great service, and surprisingly the food came out pretty fast from the time we sat down. NEGATIVES: As others have mentioned, BRINGCASH! They don’t accept cards, and we would have given a larger tip… possibly even dessert. The wait can be long if they are busy, as the seating is very limited and you have to stand and wait for people to leave.(We got there at 5pm right before the rush). Although their fries were really good, they were a little too thin. PRICE: about $ 8 per person.

I find it hard to believe this place hasn’t been reviewed more. I’ve been visiting the St. Anthony area for years and have been to Chiz’s a half dozen times. Nested in the middle of Idaho where the food choices are mainly chains, Chiz’s is break from the rest of the food in the area. A few things I like about this place. 1. It’s family owned and operated. 2. They have their own ranch dressing that is sold all over the area. You know you’ve arrived when you’re selling ranch dressing in super markets. 3. The shrimp are huge. It’s shocking the first time you see it. 4. It’s really not Chinese food, it’s American food with a Chinese twist 5. People from all over Idaho know about this place. If you mention you’re going to St Anthony, Chiz’s is bound to come up. To me that’s a sign that it’s good food. 6. The name … I mean would you walk into a place called Chiz’s? But you do because people say it’s good. 7. It’s in a residential area, and I think the owners live above the restaurant Bottom line … If you’re in the area try it out, but bring cash or check because they are old school when it comes to payment.

I’m shocked that no one has yet rated the most popular place in St. Anthony. People come from all over the Upper Valley to eat for good reason – it’s that good. The Asian-American menu features many typical Chinese dishes, but their lunch specials are the most popular. Every day of the week it’s something different, usually American fare such as burgers or sandwiches and fries. They are most famous for their fried shrimp and finger steaks. Their breading is a unique golden color, and it is delicious. Chiz’s ranch dressing is so popular they sell it in local stores. They also cater many local events and cook a delicious steak. The only negative is that there is very limited seating. They have counter stools, like a classic diner, arranged in a «U» shape. If you don’t come before well before noon, you’ll have to wait a while for a seat. This is probably why many people order out. Nevertheless, it has a fun and unique ambiance that makes it a local institution. One warning: bring cash because they don’t take credit cards.
