Terra Andes

My wife, brother in law and I were passing through Springfield on the way back from Shawnee National Park to Chicago. After a short visit at some of the sites in Springfield including Lincoln’s home & tomb we looked for a place to eat.
We found Terra Andes a 5 Star (based on 2 reviews) a Bolivian restaurant on Unilocal with a single $. They are open from 11 – 2 for lunch and again 5 – 9 for dinner. We were concerned because we arrived around 1:15 & they were open until 2 pm, however the owner was happy to oblige us. They were playing Bolivian music while we were dining which was very nice background music.
The lunch serving is a buffet for $ 7.50. Items in the buffet included a salad (soggy), meatballs (salty), lentils (pretty good, but didn’t eat too much for obvious reasons with about a 3 hr drive ahead of us), fish (pretty good), chicken & potatoes (tasty, but salty), beef dish with ground beef, beef chunks, peas & carrots (salty) and white rice. Unfortunately we didn’t think the food was very good, but that could be because this was the end of the buffet and the food was on the canned heat for hours.
They do have a dinner service from 5 – 9. The dinner menu looked good. They are a new restaurant in town so I hope the locals at least give them a try.

We stopped in for supper. The potato appetizer was fluffy and crisp and cheesy and really uniquely wonderful. Picture deep fried mashed potatoes with a sharp cheese for an accent. My husband had a sandwich that was huge and layered and yummy, and I had a nice chicken cutlet. The salad was crisp and good and now I want to try the lunch buffet to have more.
A nice and interesting addition to the downtown scene.

Absolutely fantastic music by Bolivian DJ as well as smooth crafty martinis and cocktails. Tremendous for a romantic dinner or business deal Menu is 8 pages long with all manner of Bolivian food especially from Cochabamba … The building is historic and has been there since 1850. Very tailored interior. A pleasure to enjoy and share … Quite popular with dating and political/​legal types … If you miss this you miss a bucket list
