My wife and i live on the north end of town. We made a special trip all the way down to the south end to try this place for the first time. Floor was sticky, very sticky. ¾ of the donuts were gone. I asked about the crullers, which are my favorite(especially the chocolate glazed ones), and the girl behind the counter said he(the owner) hasn’t made those in over a month, even though they have a rack designated for crullers in the glass case. They had no coffee either. We were determined not to leave empty handed, so we did order from the very limited selection that was left, and what we tasted was indeed very good. I went on their facebook page to ask about selection and so on, and you cant post on their wall. I messaged the page and never got a response back. Starting to wonder if this guy even cares about his business or his customers at all. We may try again sometime, but if it’s anything like our first initial visit, then we wont be back and just like with hurts donuts(which really really sucks on ice), we will be sure to discourage our friends and family and co workers and fellow church congregation members to not frequent this establishment.

Stopped in once so far for donuts and knew we were very late in the day — in fact, my husband and I were both surprised Ray’s was even open! We peeked in and at first thought they were completely out of donuts but then I spotted a half dozen varieties left on the back rows and a friendly guy(possibly Ray?) seated inside shouted out«come on in!» We liked the vibe inside even though it was emptied out and closing up shop. I absolutely *loved* my blueberry cake donut. It was perfection. The donuts here are larger and drier than I’m used to but that was not a problem whatsoever. I think there’s room in the world for all of the lovely donuts and they don’t all need to be identical to be delicious. My husband tried 2 donuts and he raved about both, but I sampled them and found the lemon to be lacking flavor and the red velvet was excellent but really needed some sort of glaze or frosting. While I still preferred it to a tasteless concoction from the very nearby chain kremey kompetition… it could have used a bit more of something. Prices were not high by any means. Very standard. We will certainly be back and hopefully earlier in the day to sample more of Ray’s wares!

Middle of the road doughnuts. St. George’s, Hurts, and Krispy Kreme are all a head above.

Ray’s Donuts has the best old fashioned and original glazed donuts in town. They may not have 99 different specialty donuts covered in cereal or bacon, but when you’re looking for a great traditional donut, Ray’s is the place hands down. Get there early for best selection, and try the blueberry cake donut, it’s my favorite of their old fashioned variety.

Normally i would go to st georges donuts because i love the experience every time i am in there. Well today they were closed so i went to rays. The donuts werent bad and would probably go back if the customer service wasnt so bad. There were two people behind the counter and i was the only customer. Not one of them greeted me or smiled. They got my order, i paid, and left. They didnt talk to me unless it was to tell me my total. It was clear to me they didnt want to be there and i left feeling the same way. I normally dont say anything about customer service but this way probably the worse experience i have ever had and i will not be returning.

Abysmal. Donuts were stale, overpriced, and spared every expense. Cream sticks were large but with a miserly amount of filling. Their specialty jelly donut required equipment to find the jelly in all the dough. My guess is Ray’s was once a great local place to find an excellent donut, but is now more concerned with cashing in on a local reputation by cheaping out on quality and spiking prices.

Favorite donuts in town! This place has the best glazed donut in town if you ask me. Their other specialty donuts are excellent also. Bit of a drive from where I live but worth it.

How can you go wrong with a donut? First impression, the place was dirty. I was hesitant on ordering anything at all. The man, assuming it was Ray himself, was very welcoming and nice. However, i took one bite of the long John I bought and spit it immediately back into the bag. Dried out and days old. He has a good spot. Right off 76. If he can find a way to keep the donuts fresh and clean up the work space he might stay in business.

Friendly service, decently priced, and good selection of donuts(albeit some are a little dry for my liking). Their specialty donuts are absolutely huge. Nice south side option.
