they are just ok. for the price of their food I was not impressed. There are way better burgers in town for the same price or less.

I decided to give it one more shot. Since they closed for a short time to «revamp.» The place was very clean, and the staff was friendly. There really isn’t much room to sit; definitely no room for a party bigger than 4. Even then I think they only have one 4 top. I ordered the«special» quarter pound cheese burger with frys for $ 5.99. «Drink was not included» I asked how much for just the burger, and she replied $ 5.99. They also couldn’t stop telling me that it was 100% beef. «I’m guessing to justify prices.» I took my seat, and my food was brought to me a short time later. The burger was good«typical steak and shake kinda burger.» Seasoned with salt, and pepper. The cheese melted nicely, and of good quality. The vegetables were very fresh. Lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onion all had that nice«snap» that you look for. But that’s where it stops. The fries are ridiculously horrible! These thing’s shouldn’t even come«free» with the burger! If I actually paid for them I would most certainly send them back. They were so soggy that it was literally like eating an old baked potato held together with jelly. No flavor, and completely wrong for any potato texture. I know some people like soft fry’s «don’t know why» but these were just wrong… Other than that okay burger for a premium price. Make your burgers $ 4 and I’d be there all the time.

I live down the road from Louie’s, so I drove past it many times before finally deciding to give it a try. I’m glad I did! My chilli dog and fries were perfect, and my chocolate malt was amazing! I think my husband liked his burger, too. I just wish that they were open a bit later in the evening more often than once a month, as we have tried a few times to stop in and been disappointed to find it closed. I also wish there were more picnic tables for outdoor eating. But what they’re doing must be working for them, since they’ve been open since 1949! Big Louie’s seems to be a very popular hang-out for the Harley-Davidson & classic car crowd, and that’s definitely the culture you’ll find at their monthly«Cruz In.» We found parking to be a bit tricky when the parking lot was being used for displaying classic cars(I don’t think anyone would have found it amusing for us to pull up our 2001 Toyota Camry next to the Mustangs and Chargers and pop open the hood). All in all, I’m happy that they are keeping Springfield’s «Route 66» nostalgia alive, and I think Big Louie’s would be a fun place to take an out-of-town guest for a taste of Southwest Missouri culture.

My wife and I just returned from our third trip to Louie’s Drive In(after discovering it about a month ago). We had a long discussion on the way home and both came to the conclusion that Louie’s serves one of the best burgers in Springfield. This is a small, family run business that does it correctly. Freshly cut french fries and meaty burgers that are extremely tasty. We also tried the peanut butter shake and it was a special treat(even for my wife who is not a big fan of peanut butter). Here’s the Facebook page for Louie’s Drive In:
