Days Inn and Suites Springfield on I-44

This truly deserves two stars not in the sense that my time was terrible, but it lives up to the adage, «you get what you pay for.» Almost everything besides the bed was lacking. The carpet needs remolding, the paint on the walls are outdated. The interior design is horrid. The bathroom could use new equipment. There’s no cable (only local channels). And the AC unit has seen better days. As for the beds, they were the saving grace of the room. they were actually firm, had no bed bugs, and didnt squeak. Other than that, dont expect a grand stay here. I would like to espceially point out the water flow from the sink faucet. There was literally no space between the water and the back of the sink. If you wanted to wash out your mouth, you would have to put your face against the back of the sink.
Almost every Motel I research ranges from a wide range of complaints and praise. Everyone can be picky, especially if it involves their comfort. This place is not good, but nor is it god awful. It really comes down to whether you dont mind alot of the amenities being crappy for a reasonably priced room

I did not stay at the motel but had a non-​cancellable reservation. Our car broke down 200 miles north. After a lot of phone calls to various offices, corporate and local, I was able to get the reservation cancelled for a $ 15 fee. The person who helped us, Bobbie, was especially empathetic and helpful. The manager, Bob, helped too. It turned what would have been something unpleasant into something better than just tolerable.

The sign out front should be rebadged «Dated Inn.» We’re here with family for graduation. I was charged with booking the rooms & this hotel will no doubt be a chance for my family to razz me at gatherings for years to come.
Why you ask?
The Lobby:
You pull up under a portico that is barely wide enough for two cars. As you walk to the door you find they have scribed the word «PUSH» using gold & black hardware store single letters to greet you. Entering you stroll across thread bare carpet and drink in the elegance of cheap formica counters. The «Business Center» is an ancient PC perched atop a Office Depot particle board desk that looks like it could have been salvaged from someone’s curb on an annual «we’ll pick up everything» trash day.
If you’re a sucker for nostalgia stop by and take a step back into the ’70’s. At least the front desk person was smiling & friendly, although I have no idea why since she has to work in a space like this lobby.
The Rooms:
I’m not sure how old this building is, but I’m guessing close to 50 years because your room door is straight to the outside. Classic 70’s mint green paint adorns the walls and red/​green carpet from the 80’s is under your feet. They have added some modern ammenities including a cheap Sanyo 32″ TV (Retail $ 99.95) and a Lodging Star fridge & microwave. There’s also an office chair that looks more like a high end drum throne than office chair.
The beds are hard as a rock and the pillows are your standard industrial foam bricks that can be found in any classic cheap hotel. The bathroom is barely big enough for a tub and toilet so the sink is a prominently featured when you open the front door.
Our room was clean, but my cousin’s room smelled of mildew and was easily 50 sq feet smaller even though it was the same room configuration.
The Linens:
Our towels were clean but cheap & thin. The washcloth I used was so threadbare it had a spot that will be a hole within the next 2 – 3 rides in the wash. My cousin’s room had 2 towels — one stained and one a pool towel.
Bedspreads have a flower pattern reminiscent of the late 80’s. The blankets & sheets are what you’d expect from a $ 39.95/night hotel. Unfortunately this hotel is twice that price.
The Fitness Space:
For fun I took a stroll down to take a look. Since this hotel was built before hotels offered fitness rooms or free breakfast they’ve allocated two of their former rooms to this purpose. The Fitness room has a weight machine, a leg press chair, and a treadmill — all branded «HOTEL FITNESS.» I think they were part of a purchase deal when the owner bought the microwaves & fridges from Lodging Star… There was no TV and it smelled like a room where people work out and the AC only runs when someone is working out.
Breakfast:
One of the «suites» was reallocated for this space. I just wanted coffee, but I ended up getting the very last of a very large coffee holder and it was undrinkable. It has a waffle iron, some dry cereal, some pastries that did not look terribly appetizing, some bananas that were overripe, oatmeal, and a juice machine. We’re meeting everyone at Perkins in an hour.
This is a $ 40 — $ 50/​night hotel that would have been perfect for me when I was on a college road trip. As an adult I expect more for $ 80/​night.
Unilocal reviews failed me miserably this time around. I have no idea who is giving this place 3 and 4 stars. Maybe they’re friends and family of the owners.
Trust me — stay at one of the other 6 or 7 properties I looked at with great envy as I unloaded my car.
The good news — it was one night and I’m leaving shortly.

Very poor quality hotel
Bathroom smelled horrible! The water in the shower turned cold when faucet was turned on in the sink. The pool is a whole new story, it had all green molded water and come June people will be swimming in that pool that had mold growing. I am sure that is a health hazard as my husband and I are both medical professionals.
Don’t stay here, please reconsider.

The rooms were very clean and the price was reasonable. The reason for 4 stars was because of the very helpful staff. They went out of their way to accommodate us. Their restaurant recommendation was wonderful. They even brought a google map down to our room with directions.

Clean and great value. Not fancy and for the picky people I would suggest to stay away.

We needed a bed to sleep in for the final night of our road trip. This Days Inn is certainly nothing special, but it was cheap and right off the highway.
The bed was comfortable enough. The room was plenty quiet. The continental breakfast was mediocre at best.
I wouldn’t recommend this for any sort of extended stay, but if all you’re looking for is a bed to sleep in for a night, it’s a-​okay.
