House On the Rock Resort

This «resort» seemed to have plenty of guests the weekend I was there as part of a wedding block, so I’m unclear as to why they haven’t invested any of their overpriced nightly room rate back into amenities since 1993. There was no wifi anywhere near our room… only within 100 ft of the lobby. We even spotted a card inside our room that listed dial-​up internet as an amenity for $ 1.28/minute. My boyfriend was laughing at the fact that he missed a lot of the soccer game he was watching on the tube TV because programs are shot in widescreen now. I was also appalled to witness the woman at the front desk be snarky and rude to the mother of the bride at check-​in. We later learned that poor customer service was par for the course here. And finally, the $ 12 buffet breakfast is such a joke. This place really knows how squeeze you at every opportunity… it’s location and affiliation with the HOTR attraction has got to be all that’s keeping it open. Note: another bridesmaid stayed at the HOTR Resort in Dodgeville and said it’s equally awful.

This place is terrible and my time isn’t even up here, who knows how else it will suck? First of all the customer service is terrible, not what you’d expect when paying this much at all. Breakfast was $ 12 per person for a shitty buffet. Seriously? The pull out beds in neither room worked and they would not bring a roll away. A bug jumped out of the bed. A BUG! Also there was a mouse in a friend’s room. A damn mouse! The internet is terrible but at this point that’s the least of my concerns. The setting is absolutely beautiful but this review isn’t about the setting, the hotel is atrocious!

Feel the very negative reviews are too extreme; place is clean; we find the beds very comfortable, the views terrific and the staff aims to please. Have stayed there at least 4 times now in conjunction with the American Players Theatre. Just can’t understand why the wifi is not updated by now. This is too bad and prob hurts with corporate bookings. There is wifi in the lobby area, but that’s it – HOTR really needs to address that.

The hotel is ok. A little run down with sub par internet. The setting is great. The restaurant is to avoid like the plague. Been sitting here for one hour, they have not even brought the drinks. Still waiting for the food. It’s mostly old people too. Avoid the restaurant. Save yourself from the hassle…

We made a quick decision to visit House on the Rock so had no time to research hotels. Just dialed the number on The museum site! Big mistake! Huge!
As we talked on a phone we were promised so many accommodations .
Guys, forget this hotel if you are looking for the Internet Connection (stuff lied to us when we were making reservation, during the checkout they admitted there was a problem with the hotel Internet). It’s not one day Internet failure– it’s no internet at all!!!
Everything looked like 50 years old: furniture, bathrooms, Tube TV. Room smelled like an old attic where hoarders accumulate their ’ collections’
The hotel owner takes advantage of being located not far from the House on the Rock Museum that’s why they don’t care will make their money anyway!
By the way there were barely few cars on the parking lot.
I would rather slept in my car.
Will never stay there!
Unreasonable prices for poor quality service! Ashame!

The resort is a step back in time, they still use hand written check in, I have to admit «it was a little cool.»
Resort was clean, staff was very nice. LOVED the pool!!! Views from the room, beautiful!
Stayed in the Double Queen Suite, had are boys ⁸⁄₁₀. We enjoyed a late dinner at the restaurant, kid’s loved the self play piano. Food was good.
Sleeping…not so good!!! Beds are horrible!!!
We enjoyed the clean outdated atmosphere, I would go back if they get new mattresses.
No Wi-​Fi in are room, I think they offer it, just doesn’t reach that far. We were to busy enjoying are time to miss it!

After reading some of the other reviews we were afraid to stay here, but it was the only place that had openings the weekend we were visiting Taliesin. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised. The furniture in the room is dated, but the bathroom had been updated and the bed was so comfy. It’s location is perfect for visiting Taliesin and House On The Rock. And the views were beautiful. The front desk staff were so friendly and helpful. The only complaint we had was the breakfast buffet. At 10.95 per person, I would have expected my eggs to not be burnt and the waffles and French toast to not be bricks. We will definitely return!

I stayed here for a wedding. Very run down place. Looks like the rooms haven’t been remodeled in over 30 years. And get this, my room even had a TUBE TV. Yep. For the price I paid, this place might just be one of worst places I have ever stayed in my life. Avoid staying here at all costs.

Bad service, outdated rooms, no internet connection to the rooms, and bugs and cob webs found. I stayed in April 2014 with my family and was without words for how mad I was with the miss treatment my family received. I am still as of May 8^th 2014 waiting for the hotel manager to return my call…

I. d rather get a root canal with no novicain than go back here… smells like mold, no indoor heating & is like walking into an episode of «hoarders»!!! HORRIBLE!

I mainly stayed in this place because I wanted to visit the House on the Rock Museum. Upon arrival I was disappointed to find out that most of the museum was closed during the winter season, which was not specifically stated on their website. However, the resort itself was very nice, with amazing views. Everything was very clean and the rooms were spacious. I will definitely come back in the summer.
