01/24/2016 North Spokane Library: Fascinating! Paleoanthropologist James Chatters, the …“first scientist to excavate and study Kennewick Man…,” shared his current study in Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. Her name is Naia(«Nye-yah»), «ancient skeletal remains of a teenaged girl(found) in an underwater cave…». His detailed slides and easy to understand narration was very informative. Additionally, I appreciated his keeping discussions to the topic at hand when tangent questions were raised by the audience. Hubby and I were short on time and did not view the traveling Smithsonian exhibit, «Exploring Human Origins: What Does It Mean to Be Human», on display in the library through February 2, 2016. It would be worth a stop back to see. For more information on James Chatters work:

Love love love this little library. They have the ability open for county residents to use their catalog online to put holds on books you want to read since the chance of ti actually being on the shelf when you want to read it is slim. I know, some people will go, «But it isn’t on the shelf!!!» The ability to go online and place it on hold… and be emailed when the book comes in? WORTHIT! They also have a wide selection of cds and DVDs online since the whole county library system is connected. They transfer books/DVDs/CDs between the county libraries so unless the book is insanely popular? you don’t have a long long wait until you come up for checking it out. They also have it so you can request books/DVDs/CDs and chances are pretty high they will purchase it for their library collection. The Hawthorne location is always busy which is nice. It warms my heart to see a busy library. Part of the reason may be that Whitworth College is just down the road from it. Signing up for a card is free and gives you access to such a wide selection of books. Definitely happy with this library district!

As a visitor and city resident, I was only given access to the internet. Nevertheless, I have found this to be a fine facility with very helpful employees. The wait for the internet is relatively short, and even as a visitor I could print up to 80 pages for free. Would be a good quiet place to study.
