I raved about this restaurant for the last year or two to friends and family, and even brought people in for meals, and until last night it was my favorite restaurant in Spokane. Unfortunately, I don’t know if they’re resting on their laurels, or if they lost their chef, but the meal that I had last night was not worth the money that we paid for it. I ordered the crab chowder, which had been my favorite menu choice, until last night it was different, it didn’t even look or taste the same, it was not nearly as good as I remember. Then because it was a limited menu out of the bar at this time I ordered fish tacos which were probably the most unimpressive fish tacos I’ve ever eaten in my life they were small they were bland, the accompaniments described on the menu were not to be tasted at all, and I could have gotten a better taco at Taco Bell, my other half ordered a cheeseburger and again it was as plain, as plain could be, there was nothing impressive about it. In fact, sadly the best thing on both of our plates were the French fries and you really have to try hard to screw them up. The cocktails were imaginative, but overpriced, It makes me sad because Scratch was one of my favorite restaurants in Spokane, and now I would be hard pressed to go back again. I wish they would get back to what they were in their former glory, until then count me out

Went here once. Waiter was very rude and the food was overpriced for the quality. We also had to wait 30 minutes just for our drinks to be refilled. The location is very convenient though

Had the unpleasant experience of meeting Steve… the server he was rude and condescending about my complaint of the salmon being dry on their fish taco… uh who uses salmon on a fish taco… actually had plans to go back that evening but he changed my mind… so thanks Steve i will never darken that doorway again till you’re gone… think I’ll call periodically to see. Prices shown on online menu are way off(ordered take-out and showed up to see it was $ 10 more for just the one entrée). Then got back to hotel room to open and see it was $ 34 for 2 small lamb chops that were overcooked and very fatty. I will not be returning.

We tried to go to Scratch last Saturday night. We are from out of town. Since we had a late lunch, we decided to go to the Casino for the day and end our evening with a nice dinner around 9 pm at Scratch. We arrived at the restaurant around 9:15 thinking it was plenty of time before they closed at 11 pm. We were so disappointed that they decided to close early on a Saturday night. The hostess saw us and didn’t even come to the door to explain why they were closed. We have eaten at the Scratch in Coeur d’ alene and absolutely loved it. We were so excited to see they opened on in Spokane and couldn’t wait to try it. What a disappointment that they would close 2 hours early. Not sure if we would even try again… The hostess could have at least come to the door to acknowledge us!

Location: A– Downtown, around the corner from the Fox theatre – very convenient to have dinner before a show. Metered street parking blows, few pay to park lots available. Food: A Menu is amazingly diverse, great presentations and extensive wine/booze. Food is ordered ala carte, you have to pick your starter, salad, main and dessert. Items were hot, well made and extremely tasty. Service: F Why do such amazing places have some of the worst service? Our evening was ruined by a server that failed in more than one aspect of our dinner. Simple requests such as «no pecans» on the cesar were fumbled. Server then returned, offered to remedy the problem and then agreed to bring a side of croutons as a substitute-our kind server forgot to seal the deal and driver on his promises. Salads came out before the apps, after we asked to have the apps first then salads. It was one bad move after another, damn near embarrassing from a consumers standpoint. Apps came out late, breadsticks were omitted for the first part of our meal. Our bill came out and the splitting of our check(2 couples) was a fucking nightmare. Three attempts were made to get the right orders to the right ticket – he had ½ charged the apps, then added two more ½ charges. The manager was contacted and very receptive, helpful. Our tickets again were fucked up – all this time making us miss the first act at the concert. Our reservation was for 6:00pm, we didn’t get out until 8:30pm. Manager was kind enough to give us a free app for our next visit, it will be a while before I come back.

We ate here three years ago for our engagement dinner and rented out their private room… We returned tonight for our anniversary and it was every bit as impressive as we remember. It was a busy night but we were greeted and seated immediately. The tables were dressed beautifully for the holidays and the hostess was especially friendly. He drinks a Makers Mark Old Fashioned(which they make perfectly) while I asked for a nice white wine recommendation and was served a lovely Chardonnay. For an appetizer, we ordered the Calamari which were lightly fried in an herbed batter. The three sauces were all delicious(a tartar, an Asian and a Dijon) and the fish itself was sweet and tender. For dinner, he had the porn loin served with sweet potato gratin and apple chutney. I had the sweet potato gnocchi with spinach and goat cheese in a brown butter sauce. Both entrees were absolutely top notch! We faltered a bit by ordering the donuts for dessert instead of the Crème brûlée; the donut batter was dense like a biscuit rather than light and fluffy as I expected but that honestly doesn’t effect my score at all. Five Stars for the atmosphere, the service, the flavor profiles and the protein quality. Five Stars for holiday cheer and Five Stars for the bartending.

I only got as far as martinis and appetizers. So delicious and satisfying! Cheese plate is a MEAL for one or shared app for two. Great selection of cheese.

Went here on a Thursday night after deciding at last minute to go to dinner. First tried to get into Wild Sage Bistro, but unfortunately it was an hour wait to fit in 5 of us. When we arrived the place was virtually empty, which put me into worry mode, why was the place just a few blocks away completely packed, and this place serving only a couple of tables? Onto the food. It was pretty good, but I do believe their entrees are overpriced by $ 2-$ 4. Three of us ordered the special which was steak(can not recall the cut) over mashed potatoes, with a mushroom demi-glacé. Steak was good, but the best part of dish was the mashed potatoes, yummy. Halibut was ordered by another in our party, presented nicely, and he said was good. Can not recall the 5th order. All in all, the food was good, but for me, just a little overpriced. Would be a 4 star if priced a little differently(at least in my opinion).

A disappointing meal. It took us over an hour after we ordered our food to get it. Once we got it, it was overcooked. We had the hot pot seafood stew as well as boar chops. All in all a poor dining experience.

Went to Scratch for lunch today. We walked into an empty restaurant so finding a table wasn’t tough. We were given menus and water quickly but then we were left alone for at least 40 mins. The waitress was awful — didn’t offer us why it was taking so long nor anything else to drink or bread in the interim. I don’t have anything to say about the food since we got fed up and left. This place needs to get their act together!

The vibe/energy here is sad. Staff is not having fun. Food was hit or miss. I don’t recommend the Caesar salad or the donuts. The lettuce wraps and fish cakes were pretty good.

First I would like to start out with saying that Scratch is NOT overpriced. Geezuz Spokanites, get out some. I would hate to see what some of you would do when you go into a fine dining establishment in San Francisco or New York, better to stick to pizza and burgers! With that said, this would easily have been worthy of 5 stars, but we went a couple weeks ago when the temps were soaring over 100 degrees and the air conditioner in there was broken, sorry to inform you but, the small portable AC placed by the front door was not cutting it. It was close to 90 in the restaurant. The hot temps and table fans blowing on me while I ate made me feel, not like I was in a fining dining establishment but, in the outback! The excuse that the AC is not your problem but the hotel next door is poor, go pick up some more portables or do something, watching your staff have to work in that heat, sweating is not what I want from a nice restaurant. Luckily for Scratch the food and service saved them! We were served by Michael, he was very attentive and very apologetic about the AC issue. Under the circumstances, he provided us wth stellar service. We had the wild Mushroom Soup,(yes I know, why order soup when it’s hot out, but it sounded so good!) it was delish! Creamy, deep flavors. Yum! TRY the jalapeño, cilantro Margarita! It is wonderful! We also ordered a Cesar salad to share. It was crisp and delicious. Lastly for our entrée we shared the Duck, it was so amazing! Cooked to perfection, crispy skin. The blue cheese mash potatoes lended perfectly to the sweet notes of fig and duck au jus. Oh, and by the way, the bread sticks with the balsamic reduction. fantastic! Let me know when the AC is fixed and I might be back, really is a shame because, we have family coming into town from SF and would have liked to take them here, but not with the AC issue.

Lunch! We were the only customers shortly after 1 pm on a Wednesday. Just after walking in, we were invited to sit where we pleased. Water was promptly served along with taking our orders. But then the wait. Fifteen minutes seemed an eternity when there were no other patrons in the restaurant. But it was worth it! Everything, «…but ketchup…», is made from scratch, in house, using locally sourced products. FOOD Caesar Salad, with grilled Chicken Signature Salad(spinach), with grilled Chicken DESSERTS Crème Brulee Chocolate Decadence Both salads were overall fresh, had toasted nuts, and a dressing that not only complimented the respective greens but was flavorful. The pan fried chicken was moist and tender. The desserts were such treats and both gluten free! The delicious Crème Brulee had the requisite torched sugar topping and a wonderful caramelized banana accompanied by Chantilly Cream, a stiff dalop of whipped cream just lightly sweetened. The caramelized banana turned out to be too sweet and was left mostly untouch after the first bite. The wonderful Chocolate Decadence was a slice of very rich, flourless, chocolate ganauche cake, served with Chantilly Cream that was topped with huckleberries in a light syrup, accompanied by a scoop of house made vanilla ice cream. Only a few crumbs remained on the plate of this dessert. Service was warm and friendly. Loved that our server took the time to ask if we would like dessert. Have been in places where the establishment missed an opportunity to sell a final course. Adjacent to Rain, their lounge.

Nice but way overpriced! The food is great and staff is quality, but when you have a place like Rain right next to you providing the same level of service and food for half the price — it’s hard to be wowed by this place. Good for business lunches with executives. You pay a bit extra for the pretentious atmosphere I guess.

First off, the service by Michael was exceptional. He made me and every other guest he attended to feel like they had his attention and were special. The meal was the second spotlight of the night. I had the special: Flat Iron steak. This is not what I normally order but was very pleased with Michaels recommendation. Then to top off Wednesday is half off bottles of wine. I highly recommend giving this relaxed atmosphere restaurant a try. It is one of my favs now on Spokane.

I had my first taste of Scratch when I lived in Spokane 2 years ago and decided to treat myself while visiting for business. It is just as amazing as I remembered. For starters, their drink list reads like an encyclopedia, so everyone is bound to find something they will enjoy. I chose the huckleberry mojito and wasn’t disappointed. I skipped the appetizers to save room for dessert and dived head first into their signature salad. There is not a salad on the face of this earth that I enjoy more than this concoction of brie/bacon/apple/spinach deliciousness! This would be on my list for my last meal. For the entrée I chose the Gnocchi with Blackened Shrimp. This was a choice a tad outside of my comfort zone, but the spiciness didn’t detract from the explosion of flavor. Dessert…my favorite course. The Chocolate Decadence lives up to it’s name without being an over-the-top«death by chocolate» situation. It’s rich, smooth, and elegant. A perfect end to an exquisite meal.
