The food is amazing and so are the people! The atmosphere is great and family friendly. Will always be a favorite place to eat.

Took my mother their for her 80th birthday. Had a wonderful time the drinks were great and the food was amazing. Will go again. My 11 year old said this place is a hidden gem and I couldn’t agree more.

Mediocre. I SO wanted this to be our next spot so we had our first visit for my husbands birthday & my stepmothers who was visiting. The waitress was nice but had **zero** knowledge of wine & never offered to send over someone who did. Maybe this was because no one there knows about wine or their selection wouldn’t be quite so sad. For a steakhouse, I truly thought their choices wouldn’t be so gas station worthy. They never offered small plates when they brought bread, dropped off salads with zero offer of pepper & did absolutely nothing for the guests when I made a reservation specifically stating it was a double birthday. For an establishment I had such high hopes for, I was very sadly disappointed. Steak was good but not better than any other we could make at home.

Tried J5 again last night. A Friday night and the place was jam packed at 7:30. Can you say noisy — I understand that noise goes along with a crowd but it is almost unbearable. It is impossible to have a conversation across the table without yelling — so that is what everyone’s doing — YELLING. They even had a guy singing and playing the guitar. I’m sure he was good if I had been able to hear him. I’ve seen restaurants that have sprayed acoustics on the ceiling and it calmed the sounds bouncing around in the room — it might be worth a try here. Now the service. Our waiter was doing all he could but he was overloaded too. He did a good job for the crowd. Now the food. It’s consistently good – not great-just good. My salmon was probably a little over cooked(as was my wife’s) and the baked potato was a bit on the cool side but more butter helped. To sum it up — my last rating was 4 stars — -so I guess I toke away one just for the noise. So if some of you people would just stay home — it might be a little more tolerable — or maybe we’ll just go on week-nights when it’s not so busy.

Best steaks in the Lakeway area. So happy to have found this well established restaurant. We may be the only locals who didn’t know about it! Casual vibe, amazing steaks and loaded baked potatoes. Proper portions, not pretentious, and not trying to be trendy. Just good food served with a smile. Had the 8oz filet with the spinach, butter, goat cheese, and hearts of palm topper with a loaded baked potato. Seriously amazing. Best meal I’ve had out in years. My tummy is growling just thinking about it. Can’t wait to go back. We will be regulars!

I’ve been a big fan of the J5 Steakhouse since they opened. This weekend was a great reminder why we need to wander out 71 West a little more often. The food is always great. The filet is one of the best in town — finished«the way Jamieson likes it» along with a salt crusted baked potato — superb! We always have firecracker shrimp to start — highly recommended! Great service and atmosphere. Nice outside bar and deck. Always a great experience. Fabulous! A cant miss!

Stopped in for dinner being new to the area. I found friendly service and great food. I had the firecracker shrimp for a appetizer and ribeye steak that was cooked right and flavorful.

Very disappointed! Went last night with high expectations, but the selections didn’t appeal to me from appetizers through entrees. The Backstage was better, but they never seemed to change their menus for years! I ordered the Rack of Lamb, and they had separated the chops and cooked them, apparently, along with the steaks and I could not taste the lamb! They tasted like little beef steaks on a bone. Without going on and on, I’ll just say that for the $$ it’s not worth the trip.

I’ve had a couple of friends tell me about this restaurant, both speaking highly. It pains me to not leave a better rating but I wasn’t that impressed. I will start off by saying that the couple of folks I dealt with were friendly, even with me showing up at 9:40. I ordered quickly to not keep anyone later than necessary. I ordered shrimp and scallops with the ginger miso sauce and a Caesar salad to start with. The salad dressing was strangely lacking flavor and depth but overcharged with the anchovies paste at the same time. That sounds contradictory but it’s true, a solid bite from anchovies but missing the flavor depth of a good Caesar dressing. Also, there was also about 20% of the romaine lettuce that was starting to brown. The shrimp & scallops weren’t any better. The miso ginger sauce didn’t have much flavor & the spinach had a bitter flavor with no other real flavoring. The overall size of the shrimp & scallops for $ 22 wasn’t that impressive either… Lack luster experience all the way around

Very poor service. We, my date and I, were seated outside at our request and waited and waited for our waitress. One table, seated before us, was waited on before us. Our waitress finally came by, apologized, and took our drink and food order. I ordered the chicken strips, beet salad and roasted cauliflower. My companion ordered the Caesar salad WITH salmon. They brought out my salad and brought my date her Caesar salad WITHOUT salmon. They took the salad away and then a few minutes later another waitress returned with a loaf of bread and a Caesar salad… again WITHOUT salmon. We told them again, that is a mistake. Then a waiter showed up with someone else’s food by mistake… and several minutes later, another waiter showed with someone else’s salad by mistake. It was crazy. Finally our food showed up. My chicken skewers were cold. The cauliflower was ok. Oh, and our drinks showed up with our food… not in advance. I’ll never return to this place. Lackluster food and incredibly awful service.

This is a great place! If you haven’t tried their happy hour you need to. They have great appetizers and drinks specials. They have a large backyard for the kids to play while you have a nice dinner.

We dined at this 5J Steakhouse for our first time last night. We were sat at the front door and it was so cold that we had to wear our heavy coats during our entire meal and were still uncomfortably cold. They said nothing could be done. There were six of us and it was so loud I could hardly hear the person next to me much less the others in the party. I ordered a steak, baked potato and salad. The service was slow and the food was very disappointing. The NY Strip steak was about one third grissel and was about ½ inch, the baked potato was cold to the point it would not melt the butter. Our parrty decided we would dine in Austin next time and come to 5J’s for the brownie dessert as it was the very only highlight for the evening. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone as I considered it to be overpriced with poor quality and atmosphere.

Went there with my best friend and his wife. We weren’t up for a trip to the city and gave it a go since they had been before. It was«a’ight,» they said. Well, even they were surprised at how wonderful it was. I got the Ribeye… AMAZING. Nothing special about the seasoning, just right and a great steak. My fiancé had the Filet, and LOVED it! My friends shared the Ribeye and they butterflied it for them! It, too, was amazing. Sides were grilled asparagus and roasted cauliflower. Both were still firm and cooked to perfection. Service? EXCEPTIONAL! We’ll be back!

J5 is great because it’s local. It’s not so much a destination I might recommend, but it’s just a few minutes from our house. That being said, we consistently get really good meals from here. The rib-eye is excellent and the salmon is great. My experience for the most part is a consistent temperature on the steaks, too. I may have had to send one back to throw on the grill a little longer if it was too rare for me. I ordered med-rare and it was true to med-rare(I often go down a degree because you can always throw it back on for awhile — better than being overcooked). A few of my other favorites on the menu are the baked potatoes, the roasted cauliflower, and the firecracker shrimp. Full bar is great and service is normally on par. Great job, J5!

My husband and I were visiting the Lakeway area and we decided to give J5 a try. We stopped by on a Tuesday night around 8:30pm. There were a handful of cars parked outside and the outside appearance was plain with minimal lighting. If you were looking for a place to eat right off the highway you may miss this location. However, when we walked inside we were greeted with warm lights and a old time country steakhouse feel that wasn’t overly western. We were immediately greeted and seated. Our waiter, Shawn, was awesome and helped us with our wine and food selections. We ordered the cheese board as an appetizer then for dinner we both had steaks(husband: Ribeye; Me: Filet) and were both amazed at how they were cooked. My husband choose to have a side of roasted cauliflower that was delicious! We ordered the Pecan Brownie for dessert that was to die for! We plan to go back the next time we’re in the Lakeway area! Next time we’ll sit out in the patio area and enjoy the warm Texas air!

In Austin practically every weekend we love going to J5. There are several dishes that I enjoy… Crabcakes, firecracker shrimp, lately they’ve had beet salad & oysters… My husband gets the steak every time he goes and loves it. I play the field and try salmon, grilled chicken, and steak I love it all. I’ve not yet been disappointed in this place staff is super friendly and super attentive. That’s all you can ask along with the good food !
