Took a railroad truck there for some repairs. They used a garage door spring for a clutch spring, put the clutch pressure plates in backwards, and put two zip ties in a pin in the clutch instead of using a cotter key. Another shop found the problems, and when we asked J&S about fixing their mistakes, they told us we would be charged more money, they would not refund us any money, and they do not warranty their work. Needless to say, we have been told to no longer do any business with them.

While on a trip up north, our car broke down in Sparta IL. It needed to be towed and repaired – a hose had broken. We didn’t know any garages in the area so called the nearest one, J&S Service – a mile away. They towed it and we were able to stay with friends in the area while they repaired it. They knew we were«stranded» there and it still took them 2 days to do the job. As I said, a hose had broken – I looked under the car and saw it – so I expected quick, reasonably priced service, maybe one day and $ 100. When I picked up the car I was amazed by the nearly $ 300 bill staring me in the face. In fact, I said, «you’ve got to be kidding.» But, of course, they weren’t. 2.5 hours at $ 60 to replace a hose, plus $ 45 to tow one mile, plus parts. I could have replaced the hose in 15 min. with my eyes closed, if I had the tools. As best I can tell, they did the job well, but also as best I can tell, they gouged someone they knew was from out of town and stranded.
