I haven’t been to Machu-Picchu in a while and thought I’d stop by tonight. It’s a Peruvian restaurant in what used to be Cozy’s on Oddie Boulevard and a long time ago was Long John Silver’s. The meal was good. The only disappointment was that there wasn’t more of the best part. I’ve had mixed results at Mach-Picchu, but usually more hits than misses, I guess. One thing I’ve always loved is their black corn tea called Chicha Morada. They serve it in a tall glass with ice. So I was all primed on a hot, smoky afternoon to get a big glass of Chicha Morada. I went in and ordered — and they were out of it. Oh well. The dish I got was chicken adobo with a soup. The soup turned out to be a chicken soup, but instead of noodles there was ground up corn meal floating in the broth. It was nice, but nothing special. Hot sauce didn’t do much to spice it up. The chicken adobo was part of an $ 8 special. The chicken arrived as two small medallioins. It was a red Peruvian sauce. It tasted great and I can recommend it to anyone. But as part of the $ 8 special, there wasn’t much of it. It was gone quickly. I’m going to look for it on the regular menu next time. The steamed rice was basic but good. Obviously cooked fresh. The mixed vegetables were okay. They were fresh, not frozen, as far as I could tell. But they seemed a lot like frozen vegetables you get in the store in a mayonnaise sauce. Not bad but nothing special. All in all I liked my meal at Machu-Picchu. If they had the black corn tea I probably would give them four stars. There’s other items on the menu I like, like bisteck a lo pobre and the grilled chicken. They also have Cusquena, a nice Peruvian beer that’s as close to a German dunkel as anything I’ve found in the United States, including imported German beer.
