Stopped by to grab a lunch to heat up at school and to my surprise Desoto central employees get 10% off. It’s a type of place where you buy prepared meals to reheat for lunch or dinner and even snacks and appetizers. A great concept from a co-owner who is in the catering business. I got the chicken and biscuits(5) for $ 9.99. Pixies which I’d consider blonde brownies with chocolate chips were 1.99 which were delicious. Both enough for two meals or two people. The co-owner greeted me with a warm smile and explained their store and where to find frozen meals, reheat meals, soups, salads, dessert, and appetizers. Randy was his name. Looks like I’ll be coming back soon to grab lunches and dinners for home.

What a great concept! Store front has freshly prepared meals that can be picked up, reheated, and bickety-bam, dinner is done! They have an extensive menu of homestyle entrees, sides, soups, and desserts. Staff was friendly and the owner actually explained what was made was based on his own family’s recipes. The food was excellent– fresh and tasty. This is a concept that is perfect for family where both parents work and need a quick solution for dinner. I wish Northern Virginia had something like this as it would go over like gang busters in an area with so many working families.

After a round of my favorite game«What Do You Want for Dinner Tonight» with the wife, I decided to stop in to Borrowed Time Meals and see what they had on the menu today. Borrowed Time Meals is a meal prep service that makes fresh homemade meals each day that you can pick up and pop in the oven when you get home. They also have a frozen in case you’re planning a few days ahead, a soup and salad section and a dessert section. The staff was very friendly and showed me around the shop and explained the different items they carried and the best ways to cook everything once you get home. I ended up grabbing some shredded beef sandwich pack for dinner tonight and it was fantastic. It only took about 20 minutes to warm the beef and sauce in the oven and it tasted like a homemade meal that had slow-cooked in the kitchen all day long. The kids devoured their sandwiches in minutes and asked for seconds. I also grabbed some baked potato soup for lunches, some frozen wings for a late night snack and some oatmeal raisin cookies that had just come out of the oven. I haven’t tried the soup or wings yet, but the cookies delicious, even my wife who isn’t a oatmeal raisin fan, loved them. In the end I snagged one family meal, four lunches, a late night snack and some sweets for less than $ 40. I’ll be stopping in here again in the future instead of going the fast food route on busy evenings.
