Although I have a US Passport, I also hold Greek citizenship and needed very special photos for the Greek passport. The specifications for these photos are quite strict and specific and I was running into issues finding someone to take the photo.
These guys are awesome and so accommodating. I’m very happy with the outcome and I’m confident there won’t be any issues when I submit my passport application.

Started doing business with Frank Sr, and now Frank Jr… for some 30 years! We have bought a number of still and video cameras for YEARS! Of course lots of accessories too. HUGE store now (he started in a little strip center on Bridgetown Pike years ago) Great service and prices!

I love this place! I bought my camera from them. It was a used professional camera, but was perfect. New, this camera was around $ 1500, I paid a lot less.
I recently had them do some editing for a promotional DVD. They did a fantastic job! Both Jacob and Connor were amazing! They completed the project when they said it would be completed. I recently needed to order additional DVD’s, they finished it in record time. Thank you!
Quality equipment is not cheap. Don’t expect to get a piece of junk here. Do expect quality and service. Prices are competitive with the Web… Service is outstanding.
In addition, they all are very knowledgeable about photography and will gladly answer questions.

I am professional photographer, and I have been a customer of New York Camera & Video for 15 years. They earn 5 stars across the board for selling very high quality photo gear including my brands: Leica cameras and Gitzo tripods, but we also buy memory cards, all kinds of camera accessories including bags and even film and darkroom supplies. We have a couple of key people we order from and ask advise. It doesn’t make any sense to buy from a non specialty store when you can save time and money buying from a great source for all things photographic.

I absolutely love this camera shop! We drive all the way from Philadelphia because of the amazing experience! Use these guys the work is quality and service incredible.

Great experience today at New York Camera! Up front, I told my sales person, John, that I didn’t need a «serious camera» today. I use it for work, I am hard on electronics and I work in overdrive. He immediately understood what I was asking for and offered me several options. He patiently allowed me to shoot photos and compare each camera; then, when I made my selection, he set everything up for me and took his time to explain things. I never felt that because I wasn’t spending mega bucks on serious equipment, that I was being dismissed and I appreciated that. Regardless of your photography knowledge or needs, go to New York City Camera and Video and ask for John, he listens and knows his stuff!

What’s the beef? Guys are helpful. Selection is great. Cross shop if you need too. Love the rent options.

Love this place! I bought my first Nikon 6006 back when I first got married that’s how long I have been a customer! I never buy anywhere else! He always give great advice. Never oversells me. Prices are competitive. I recently gave my daughter my old D60 and sent her to NYC camera for a new lens, battery, etc. They sold her just the right stuff given that she’s a novice. Always have gotten great service! The review that says the contrary must have misinterpreted the owners humor!

New York camera was recommended to me by my parents that have bought various cameras, lens, and accessories from there before.
My parents gave me their old Nikon D-​60 as a starter camera and sent me to New York Camera for the multiple critical camera parts that were missing (lens, battery, battery charger). The customer service was great, I was approached by John as soon as I walked in the door. He was able to get me everything I needed and offered me used products (nikor lens & charger) understanding it was just a starter camera. He priced the used products based off of what amazon was offering & showed me the amazon price as proof.
Overall, it was a good experience and I was able to get everything I needed at the same place without having to wait for shipping.

Clean with wide selection of new and use camera goods. Staff are friendly. Price is competitive with the market. Not too many on sale item

These days, brick and mortar camera stores are hard to come by, and being a person who likes to see things in person prior to purchase, NYCV fits the bill. I have been shopping here for over 13 years (including their time over on Bridgetown Pike) and have been happy with what they have to offer. Knowledgeable staff, good rental selection and everything from bags to tripods to studio lighting equipment. With internet camera stores taking the forefront these days, it’s nice to know I can still speak with someone face to face, see and try the equipment and make an educated purchase at a good price. I still recommend all my friends and family to shop here.
In addition to equipment, they also have a well known processing lab with many printing options. A good selection of papers from matte and glossy to canvas and metallic. They can adjust your images for you or print them as is. Very consistent processing whether digital or analog. I’ll continue to shop here indefinitely!

Only place nearby that has a decent stock of film and dark room materials, but prices are through the roof (on par with other B/​M photo shops) and the «help» is more than a little pushy. It’s fine that they work on commission (I guess?) but if I know what I’m doing and looking for, please don’t push other things on me. I came here for a reason, and the salesmen are not the reason.
Shop Adorama online instead.

I have read a lot of these people’s reviews, and I will admit I am kind of stunned at what a lot of you people are saying. First I will say this every time I have gone to NYCV, I have been helped. They answer all my questions, and I am not a professional photographer, whom visit’s regular and are known to always get the attention of owners and staff. The fact that they actual treat me as if I was one is what makes me feel as do if the other reviewers are only giving their feedback based on their selfish personal gain. I had a problem with a lens (85mm 1.8), that I had purchased from another camera store that I won’t mention in the bucks area. They helped me, for almost and hour trying to solve my problem. They did not suggest or invoke that they wanted me to purchase anything after assisting me which is quite stunning because most camera stores are notorious for that, Lei Camera, in Princeton, NJ. I recently went to purchase a 70−200mm F2.8 IS, which is a remarkable lens. I first went to the store in buck’s that I will not name. Who offered me this lens for 1349.00, they had listed it in excellent condition, which was definitely not true it had scuffs and scratches to the connection points and the lens was scratch all over it’s surface. I left after trying to negotiating a lower price, which the owner failed to go lower saying the lens was pristine. I then ventured to NYCV, where I rented the version II, and was always greeted with a warm and comforting feeling and not to mention my 5 year old had and area where he could sit while I review the many products that they had to offer. A + in my book, but back to the lens, so I asked to see their 70−200mm F2.8 V. I, which was a demo, never used in the field or rented. The owner first told me 1500, which was out of my budget nevertheless. I really wanted the lens and after negotiating he dropped the price to 1400, and it came with pro filter and a warranty which I would not have got from the other store or on Craiglist. I have been using my beautiful lens for sports photography and portrait sessions and I love it. I would definitely recommend this place to serious photographers not people who just want to bad mouth somewhere because they don’t get there way. In order to become the best one has to invest in one’s self. lowballing is not fair, competitive pricing now that is fair.

I’m surprised to read these reviews. I don’t do a ton of business here but the few times I went in, they had exactly what I needed, and on the few occasions a salesman had to go back to the warehouse, it was because they offered to do so. The last time I was there, i was desperate because I needed to pick up some additional camera batteries for a shoot I was heading off to the next day. They stayed open after hours to accommodate me. They’re no B&H, but I’ve never gone away disappointed.

Let’s face it, camera shops are getting rarer and rarer so finding a good one is like finding a unicorn. Unfortunately NY Camera and Video isn’t a unicorn. It looks like one at a distance but up close and personal it’s a donkey with a horn taped to it’s head.
First off, the customer service there is hit or miss. Some of the younger staff are actually OK to work with. But if you get a veteran or someone with authority (owner /​manager) it’s a different story.
Want an example? Ok, fine: I went in one day and inquired about a specific lens they did not have on the sales floor. An older «gentleman» said this to me … his words as exactly as I can recall… «If I go into the stock room and get you this lens will you buy it? I don’t want to waste my time.» Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to waste your time by trying to spend hundreds of dollars at your store.
Second issue: Selection. See my story above. Maybe they have what you want, maybe it’s in the back. You won’t know unless you ask and potentially run the risk of stirring up the ire of a salesman. No, their selection is actually pretty good. They do carry full lines of gear, a nice selection of supporting products and tons of used equipment. Their selection earns them the second of their 2 stars. With reservations…
Third: Prices. Seriously guys? Why would anyone pay full MSRP when you can get big discounts from online retailers? Why? Because of excellent customer service … oh, that’s right, their customer service isn’t exactly «excellent».
My recommendation: Sure, pull in, check the place out. They do have a nice selection compared to smaller mall stores or Best Buy… but just window shop. Better prices are a mouse click away and there are plenty of retailers (on and offline) that would love and appreciate your business. I’m not kidding when I say I’ve had better buying experiences at Best Buy… kinda sad actually.
Oh, and I DID end up buying that lens. Online. For less.

I came here several months ago because I was taking a photography course. I had a list of specific requirements about the camera and accessories. I purchased a used camera off of the employees recommendations rather than looking around as I would normally have done. To put it shortly should have looked around, the camera itself was fine but for the age of the camera and minor cosmetic damages it was over priced. The lens they recommended to me was an off brand lens that did the job but it was not what I asked for. The list I showed the employee said «normal» and not knowing the difference I just said «ok» to whatever they said was good. I’ve come in several times with questions to which they tell me they don’t have time and to make a one on one appointment with someone to go over all my questions. They don’t really want to help people unless they are «professional» or so it seems. After this course I got really into photography and now go here to get a price point. These guys typically over price everything so I know how much is too much to pay. I prefer Allens Camera and Video in Levittown off of New Falls Road. The staff there are friendlier and more helpful to beginners.

Great customer service, great equipment, great prices.

I probably should have waited to review this place because I am still on the fence here.
I went in about a month ago to just scope out camera equipment as I was interested in purchasing my DSLR. After waiting for quite some time (on a Saturday afternoon) I was finally able to talk to someone. I worked with Tom, who was awesome. He was very knowledgeable and most importantly he was patient with a beginner like myself and my million questions.
After working with Tom I decided to put stuff on hold and come back the following weekend to make my big purchase.
After waiting again for quite some time (I don’t get why they don’t staff more people on the weekends — it’s obviously the day with the most traffic!) I was helped by a young gentleman, I can’t remember his name, sorry buddy! He did a decent job of ringing me up and getting me set up with everything I wanted. He was even super nice to me when I came back a few hours later to exchange my camera bag for something different.
The only thing I am a little «irked» about is the fact that they offer these «one-​on-​one photography classes». Well I really would like to take one, but when I called to set one up you could only do week days or week nights. For the average working woman, that doesn’t fly. Part of the reason I purchased my camera here is because I knew that was available to me for only $ 50 at any time. Now it seems it will cost me $ 50 plus a half a days pay to get there in enough time. (I work in NJ. eeek long drive).
Overall I’d say they did a nice job but it would be helpful and definitely increase their business if they had more employees available on the weekends (or maybe just a number machine like at the deli supermarket?). The store is HUGE with a TON of items that need sales associates to unlock and explain. It just makes sense to have more people on hand. I recommend, just be prepared to hang out for a bit!

This, unfortunately, is the norm for camera stores. It’s been a while since I stepped into a place and was welcomed like a human being ready to dump their income to keep you open; instead, you’re treated as kind of a burden.
I can’t ever shake the feeling that I’m not quite welcome, and even though I’m helped [eventually], there never seems to be any sincerity in answering my questions or helping me. What happened to customer service? Wishing there was a way to make this funny, I’m just left disappointed by the bias, uneducated, fanboyism that’s so prevalent in the industry.
I’m rating them down due to poor service, but the selection is large and the prices aren’t terrible compared to B&H/Adorama considering they’re right outside Philly. If you go in there with an inkling of what you want and don’t need help finding it, it’ll serve its purpose.
