I am a big fan of sourdough bread so this is a real big treat for me. I used to buy quantity and go for the day old bread but I must say that is the wrong tactic. Go for the bread that just came out of the oven.

I think the kids name is Alex but I could be wrong and if I am, please forgive me. I stopped in late one evening to pick up some bread because my sister(who lives in Redwood Shores) requested none other then Raymond’s Sourdough Bread. She has just made a super delicious homemade vegetable soup so Raymond’s it was. It’s refreshing to see a young man(I sound old) working and providing a great experience for the customer. He greeted me nicely and struck up conversation asking how my day was. I asked about bread and was delighted when it was still hot after coming out of the oven fresh. He said it was bread made by him or he had put it in the oven anyway and laughed. I asked about the muffins in the counter and he gave me the price as well as the name of each one and a suggestion to try the pumpkin spice muffin that he coworker said he loved but he himself hadn’t tried yet. I chose that muffin. After eating a good amount of hearty soup and fresh bread I didn’t have room for the muffin but I ate it the next morning and it was still moist and fresh. So good. I really love that I have this delicious bread making factory in my home town. Not only does it smell yummy when you drive by but I know I’m going to get some da… good bread that is fresh and probably hot from coming out of the oven.

Easily the most delicious freshest sourdough bread in all the land. Yeah, I mean, all the entire world! Global dominance in politics is fine I’m sure. But global dominance in sourdough bread is what’s really important. My dad is easily the coolest cat in town and would likely never wear a Rolex or Lacost sneaks. So in that regard he’s easy to shop for. Being fathers day weekend it dawned on me. Fresh, warm, sourdough bread would make his day more than any gift. Cash only at this location and they serve up fresh baked bread every hour on the hour. Forget about Safeway Mollie Stone’s and those other duds cause this is where it’s at.

Come here for fresh piping hot bread, but nothing else. My cousin told me about Raymond’s Sourdough Outlet and my mom and I couldn’t resist when she told us the bread is still hot when put out. Who can say no to fresh bread? Don’t lie to yourself… The two baguettes we got were still piping hot and even though we had just finished eating dim sum, we had to rip a piece off to eat during the ride home. Can’t get fresher than this! My cousin had already told us about the dark and dingy atmosphere so we were prepared. She wasn’t lying. What really caught my eye was their pastry case that said«baked fresh daily.» What was in there were individual apple pie pastries and muffins… that are baked fresh daily in my favorite store of all time — COSTCO. Yay to bread, nay to Costco muffins and apple pies. Go to Costco for that.

I like Raymond’s sourdough bread. But getting it at the outlet is hit or miss. I have been there many times in the morning and except for one time, the selection of fresh baked bread is dismal. Today, for example, I stopped by to get a loaf just a little after 9am. There was nothing and i mean nothing on the fresh racks. No loaves. No rounds, No sandwich rolls. Usually the older guy is there but a young gal was there. All she could do is shrug her shoulders. I ended up buying the loaf at a grocery store I frequent. So if you go there, best to be there right when they open otherwise it will be hit or miss. I agree with other posters about the lighting, It is too dim and suggests they do not want people to see clearly the day old bread. I would urge them to make it more brighter. And make sure the shelves of fresh bread are stocked frequently to prevent disappointments. Like the bread but the store gets dinged for poor lighting and often empty fresh bread trays.

It doesn’t get fresher than this, and if you’re a sourdough fan, this is the place to go for the freshest bread around. Skip Lucky’s and Safeway. I must forewarn you the place itself will catch you off guard once you walk in. I’ve seen brighter lights in a bar. I’m not sure what that’s all about, but the dim lights are somewhat of a shroud of creepiness once you walk in. However, the nice girl at the counter thwarts those assumptions. I didn’t see much of pastries, and the place is pretty small. You know the bread is fresh though once you squeeze the bag and feel the freshness. In fact, they were bringing out a fresh batch when I was leaving.

I’m teetering on 2.5* and 3* the store is old and could use a renovation. It’s dimly lit and I read past reviewers complain about not seeing mold on the bread. So I inspected my bread again once outside before I left. I was a little hesitant to buy the bread when I saw the heap of day old bread. The day old bread was buy one get one free. I love Ike’s sandwiches so the next best thing to bring back home for my family was Dutch crunch bread that Ike’s uses. The girl told us to sprinkle water on the bread and retoast it that way to soften the bread. It didn’t taste the same as Ike’s bread but it wasn’t bad overall. Just inspect your bread carefully. Here’s a tip: cut the bread and put in ziplock bags freeze them until you want to eat it. Freezing it will keep the bread from drying out.

I love good sourdough bread. Raymond’s is the real deal. I love going into this place on a cold day when they have the fire on and are burning pallets. Fresh sourdough like this is out of this world but even the day-old bread is way better than any mega-bakery grocery store bread. The baguettes are wonderful. I just wish I could purchase this wonderful, traditional sourdough bread where I live. I’ll just have to settle for buying it during my trips to South City a couple of times a month. If you are at Raymond’s near lunch time be sure to stop off for a sandwich at Subculture Deli. They have the best sandwiches in the Bay Area. It’s the blue door that opens to the parking lot near the back of the bakery building.

I’ve driven by it dozens of times and finally stopped in. There’s nothing like a good sourdough bread and Raymond’s Sourdough Outlet is the place to get it fresh out of the oven. They offer hot, fresh bread on the hour. It’s about $ 4 for a huge baguette, but if you’re really hungry they also offer day old baguettes — 2 for the price of 1. If you want to munch on something while you drive home, the pastries look awesome(I’m definitely getting 1 or 2 next visit!) It’s better than any sourdough I’ve had before. Check it out. The outlet is small, parking is easy, and the service is super friendly. (PS Thanks, Tony. I gotta give you props on hippin’ me to this place!)
