Store is closing up to 70% off on some things, if you want to shop for this year xmas shopping can be done now because of store closing. You can see the empty spots and racks. I will suggest to come on week day slow time so you can really benefit from sale, bad part lot of open packages because people open them to look at it and just walk away from them.

I’ve never bought anything from this particular Macy’s because the selection is so poor, especially in the men’s side which takes up only about a quarter of the store’s floor space. Since this is a rare standalone Macy’s that isn’t connected on the inside to a larger shopping mall, customer traffic is also sparse. Perhaps due to its location in South Plainfield or its proximity to off-price retailer Burlington Coat Factory, much of the clientele appears to be working class(I walked past a few customers who looked like vagrants today). In any case, don’t expect to find any«Magic of Macy’s» at this store.

Even though this Macy’s may not have as large of a selection as larger Macy’s, it is a pleasure to shop there. This store is clean and orderly, and the sales staff are always ready to help. It’s close to home, and no problem with parking which is much better here than the parking at larger shopping malls.

Great selection, unlike its woodbridge store which is sloppy an thrown together you can walk around without running into people an product. An no makeup people harassing you. Staff is very helpful

This Macy’s has a much smaller selection than many other’s — it is a small location and therefore they simply can not stock as much inventory. That is not the reason that I am giving a 3-star rating. The reason behind the rating is the lack of customer service which you will get every time you enter this store. There are no smiles, no «how can I help you today?», nothing! On my most recent venture to this particular store, I was looking to return some items. The first counter I approached rudely said, «Oh, go down there, I don’t process shoe returns»(Note: I had a bag of items to be returned, not just shoes) The woman at the shoe counter was very nice and helpful — how customer service should be. She could not do clothing returns at her counter and directed me to the Junior’s department. The register was closed and when I asked the woman in the department(who was re-stocking) where I should go she said, «Well this register is CLOSED.» I walked to the Woman’s register where no one walked by for 15 minutes. I asked the employee who was hanging things for assistance, who stated, «Um, the register is over there.» Then another woman came up and ended up actually assisting me at the register. She requested that they mail off my return instead of processing it in-store(I could have mailed it myself if I wanted to do that option, I came to a store for a return for a reason). After leaving me waiting for 20 minutes she called from the back office to the cash register I was waiting at to tell them to just process it as an in-store return. This was the most frustrating experience I’ve ever had at a department store, and I wasn’t even shopping!

The Macy’s in South Plainfield is the best I’ve ever shopped in. The staff are so helpful. I got personal attention in every department. They were happy to help. Selection was great, too.

Being a long time shopper at Macys, this was my first time visiting this particular store. I went in around 3pm on a Saturday. It was not busy at all. I went to the women’s shoe department and was sad to find such little inventory and selection. As I was looking at a pair of boots and minding my own business, an older female employee with no name tag came up to me and asked«is there something wrong with those shoes? Because I know there isn’t.» I was taken away with her comment since I didn’t even ask her for an opinion or help. She had no name tag on so I couldn’t even complain about her if I called the customer service line. I ended up buying those boots with the help of someone else. However, the quality of customer service and that particular attitude from one employee made the shopping experience less enjoyable. Personally, the Macys at Woodbridge Mall or Menlo Park Mall(if you’re looking for a store close by) has much better staffing and selection.

Tonight was a evening of shopping with my grand daughter. The store was clean. Not a lot of clothes out of place. They had everything my 8 year young granddaughter liked and her size. So birthday shopping went well. Nothing like seeing her smile Thanks Macys

Being a past employee in the retail field this is how I rate this Macy’s. I remember as a retail employee you went up to customers asked them if they needed help or were ready to get rung up. One day I was at a counter for over a half hour waiting for someone to approach me so I could buy some jewelry. Not only did I get passed by two associates but also a manager who just walked past me and refused to ask me for help. The two other associates even avoided eye contact with me. I was an employee of Sterns, also once a federated stores brand, from high school and into college. I was employed as a stock worker in high school and near the end a nighttime manager in college. I was trained in both areas about customer service and approaching customers and meeting their needs. As of late I feel that the retail experience has gone downhill.
